In the study, Qin Yuhe was discussing trying for a baby with Fu Xiaochen.
Qin Yuhe and Song Xinya had been trying to conceive for quite some time, yet Song Xinya still hadn’t gotten pregnant. Thinking about how Fu Xiaochen had gotten his wife pregnant with twins in one go, he couldn’t help feeling a little envious.
“How long did it take you and your wife to conceive?”
Fu Xiaochen had actually spent quite a while trying for a baby with Gu Qingcheng too, but he shamelessly bragged, “Trying for a baby? What’s that? I don’t even know how to write the words ‘trying for a baby.’ Back then, my wife and I didn’t try at all. I was even wearing a condom, and she still got pregnant with twins.”
Qin Yuhe said, “Listen to yourself. If you really had the ability to get someone pregnant from a distance, you’d have been arrested and locked in a laboratory by now, where they’d study you as the eighth wonder of the world.”
Fu Xiaochen clicked his tongue. “Can’t you use your imagination a little? How about saying I’m just too capable, with a body that’s too strong and kidneys that are too powerful, and I managed to break through that layer of plastic?”
Qin Yuhe rolled his eyes. “Would it kill you to stop bragging for one day?”
Fu Xiaochen chuckled several times before asking, “How often do you and your wife do it?”
“How often do we do what?”
“Are you pretending to be dumb? What else could I mean? How many times a day do you sleep with your wife?”
“I’m asking you for advice on trying to conceive, not inviting you to pry into my private life.”
Fu Xiaochen rolled his eyes at him as well. “Do I look that bored? I have a wife and children. What haven’t I experienced, and what haven’t I tried? Do you really think I’m curious about what goes on in your bed? I’m asking because it’s related to trying for a baby.”
“Let’s hear it.”
“Having sex too often while trying to conceive can actually make it harder to get pregnant.”
This was the first time Qin Yuhe had heard such a thing, and he was rather surprised. “Having sex too often isn’t good for getting pregnant?”
He had always assumed that the more often they did it, the easier it would be to conceive.
Fu Xiaochen explained, “If you have sex too frequently, it can reduce the sperm count and lower the chances of conception.”
This was knowledge Qin Yuhe had never heard before.
He felt thoroughly enlightened.
Fu Xiaochen patted him on the shoulder. “I know you haven’t been married for long, so you’re at the stage where you’re completely addicted to sex. But try to exercise some restraint and don’t do it too often.”
Since Qin Yuhe hadn’t told him exactly how many times a day he and his wife did it, Fu Xiaochen didn’t elaborate.
What Fu Xiaochen meant by “not too often” was two or three times a week.
What Qin Yuhe understood by “not too often” was two or three times a night.
The two men walked out of the study just as Song Xinya and Gu Qingcheng returned from the sunroom.
Baby Boy and Baby Girl were eating apple pastries that smelled of milk. The moment they saw Gu Qingcheng, they tossed aside their spoons printed with little Milky Dragon designs and kicked their short legs as they ran toward her.
“Mommy!”
“Mommy!”
Baby Boy ran faster and reached Gu Qingcheng first. He threw himself into her arms. His little arms were plump, resembling sections of lotus root, and he wrapped them tightly around Gu Qingcheng’s neck.
In a sweet, childish voice, he said to her, “Mommy, I missed you so much after not seeing you for ten minutes. I missed you so much I almost cried.”
Gu Qingcheng patted his back. “Sweetheart, Mommy missed you very much too.”
Baby Girl came running over, but when she saw that Baby Boy had taken up all of Mommy’s arms, she couldn’t squeeze her way in. Anxious, she bounced up and down in place, her two little pigtails swinging through the air.
“Brother, you’ve already hugged Mommy. It’s my turn now.”
Fu Xiaochen came over and crouched beside Baby Girl. “Sweetheart, Daddy will hold you.”
Baby Girl spun around with a whoosh, presenting the round back of her head to Fu Xiaochen. Pouting, she said, “I don’t want stinky Daddy to hold me. I want fragrant Mommy to hold me.”
Baby Boy had claimed Gu Qingcheng’s arms, so Baby Girl ran behind her and hugged her from the back. She let out a long, childish sigh.
“Ahh—I’m hugging Mommy too! I’m so happy~”
Fu Xiaochen, left all alone, squatted on the floor and watched his wife and children put on a touching display of maternal love and filial affection.
After Baby Boy had hugged Gu Qingcheng for a while, he let go and walked behind her. He said to Baby Girl, “Sister, it’s your turn now. Go hug Mommy.”
“Thank you, Brother.”
“You’re welcome, Sister. It’s what I should do.”
Baby Girl threw herself into Gu Qingcheng’s arms and sniffed hard with her little nose. “Wow, Mommy smells so good.”
Baby Boy hugged Gu Qingcheng from behind and leaned over her head to take a sniff. “Wow, Mommy’s hair smells good too.”
Fu Xiaochen gave a snort and laughed despite himself.
He and his wife used the same shampoo and body wash.
Yet he was stinky while his wife smelled wonderful.
These two little brats were being far too biased.
To keep the two little brats from monopolizing his wife, Fu Xiaochen said, “All right, enough hugging. You two little treasures should go to your English lesson.”
Everyone was astonished. “An English lesson this late at night?”
“Education starts from childhood,” Fu Xiaochen said. “As their father, I’m acting responsibly by making sure they start learning from a young age, so they don’t lose at the starting line.”
The truth was that he wanted the two children to battle it out with their lessons instead of clinging to his wife.
Because he wanted to cling to his wife himself.
After Fu Xiaochen took his wife and children home, Qin Yuhe and Song Xinya prepared to leave as well.
Old Madam Qin took Song Xinya’s hand and asked, “Child, did you use the method for trying to conceive that Grandma told you about before?”
The methods Grandma had mentioned were all rather embarrassing. Song Xinya hadn’t dared to commit them to memory, worried that if she thought about them every night, she would become restless and be unable to sleep.
Seeing the confusion on Song Xinya’s face, Qin Yuhe stepped in to rescue her.
“Grandma, you taught us so many methods for trying to conceive that it’s honestly hard to remember which specific one you mean.”
“Why, that one, of course. Before doing it, put a pillow under your bottom. It makes it easier to get pregnant.”
Old Madam Qin pressed the young couple further. “Did you two use that method?”
The truth was that they hadn’t.
Whenever the two of them saw each other, their hearts would start racing, and the mood would come over them immediately. Every time they began, they were too eager; the process itself went on for far too long. By the time it ended, she would be exhausted and pass out, while he would be drenched in sweat yet still unsatisfied.
Who would remember to put a pillow under her bottom?
They had forgotten it completely.
Qin Yuhe knew he absolutely couldn’t tell Old Madam Qin the truth. If she found out, she would certainly give him a thorough scolding. She might even twist his ear and lecture him at length.
She definitely wouldn’t have the heart to scold her granddaughter-in-law.
“Grandma, Xinya and I have already tried the method you mentioned.”
Old Madam Qin found it strange. “Then why hasn’t Xinya gotten pregnant yet? I used that method when I got pregnant with your father, and your mother used it when she was pregnant with you.”
Qin Yuhe thought to himself: Of course she hasn’t gotten pregnant—we haven’t actually used that method yet.
On the way back to Zijin Huafu, Song Xinya was reading financial news on her phone in the Rolls-Royce when an intensely possessive, scorching hand came to rest on her thigh.
She raised her head and met Qin Yuhe’s dark, deep-set eyes.
“Yaya, put a pillow under your hips tonight. Let’s give it a try…”
