In her third year working on a Federation planet, Bu Hui, an outsider from Blue Star, finally got her chance to enter the genetic-matching lottery.
The results flashed across the screen above the hall. Everyone stared in stunned silence.
Her match was—
Xin Chi, the infamous pirate captain who had terrorized the galaxy, with countless spies and informants at his command. A year ago, he’d finally been captured and locked away in the harshest underground prison on Sixth Star, sentenced to twenty thousand years. No one knew whether he was even still alive.
There was no photo on the holographic screen, only a red warning symbol, beeping insistently.
The service robot gave her a polite smile.
“Congratulations. You’re about to become a widow.”
The next day, Bu Hui’s new status as a widow was the talk of the entire galaxy.
***
Given the unusual circumstances, Bu Hui filed appeals every day, patiently waiting for the match to be annulled.
In the meantime, she shared her thoughts, wrote interviews, and made a fortune off her widow status.
Then, three months later, while on a business trip to Sixth Star, Bu Hui witnessed another disaster firsthand.
Her pirate spouse, with 19,999 years left on his sentence—
…had escaped from prison. o(╥﹏╥)o
A diligent office worker × a cold-hearted, fearsome pirate captain
*A brainless, ridiculous little sweet romance. One-on-one, happy ending.*
