He tried to remind him, “CEO Zhou, Finance Director Fu submitted all the evidence of Vice President Wang’s embezzlement of company funds, as well as the evidence of his long-term harassment of female colleagues, to the police yesterday. We should have an update soon.”
Zhou Sui’an’s brows immediately drew together. In the end, he let out a sigh.
“I know. Take me to the office first, then deliver this gift to her.”
He had already promised his younger sister that he would stop having anything to do with Su Wan.
The incident with Wang Zhengfei had dealt her a heavy blow. She had asked him for a gift, and he had agreed.
“Yes, CEO Zhou.”
Assistant Wen released a nearly inaudible sigh of relief.
Thankfully, CEO Zhou was no longer indulging Su Wan unconditionally and without limits, as he had in the past.
He had been afraid that after meeting Su Wan, the CEO might change his mind again. It wasn’t as if that hadn’t happened before.
—
As she waited, Zhou Suisui grew increasingly restless.
Her brother had only promised yesterday that he would no longer associate with Su Wan. Could he have gone back on his word after just one night?
“Miss, what’s wrong?”
Cui Wu saw that she was distracted while unwrapping her gifts. The knife nearly cut her hand, and Cui Wu quickly snatched it away.
“I’ll do it. Don’t hurt yourself.”
Zhou Suisui lightly bit her delicate lips, which had gone slightly pale.
“Sister Wu… why do you think my brother loves Su Wan so much? I heard that the British Royal School of Household Management requires students to take psychology as a secondary subject. Can you analyze my brother from a psychological perspective and figure out what’s going on with him?”
Cui Wu froze for a moment, then looked a little embarrassed.
“Miss, the royal school does indeed offer psychology as a secondary subject, but I’ve always disliked that course. I only studied it half-heartedly, and someone with half-baked knowledge like me could end up doing more harm than good.”
After a pause, she continued, “I just remembered that I had a roommate who was also from Tang City. She’s now one of the top psychological counselors in the country and runs her own practice. We can ask her.”
Zhou Suisui had only been making a casual complaint, but she found herself tempted by the idea.
Her beautiful almond-shaped eyes blinked as she asked, “Sister Wu, what do you think of Su Wan? Why does my brother love her so much?”
This question had vaguely lingered in her mind since her previous life.
Aside from her delicate, pitiful charm, Su Wan had no particularly outstanding qualities.
To put it bluntly, any junior secretary at the Zhou Group was more capable than her.
Her brother was a young and accomplished CEO worth over ten billion yuan. What kind of trials and tribulations had he not seen?
A few years earlier, several of the company’s veteran shareholders had stripped him of his authority. With ruthless decisiveness, he had turned the situation around and reclaimed thirty percent of the Zhou Group’s shares from those old foxes.
He had encountered every kind of woman on his way to the top. What kind of woman could he not have?
She refused to believe that a man as capable and calculating as him could, after reaching adulthood, fall for a third-rate actress whose overall circumstances were merely average.
Knowing her brother as she did, the whole thing was simply incomprehensible.
He was not a man who couldn’t tell right from wrong. Yet whenever Su Wan was involved, he repeatedly abandoned his principles, as though someone had put a spell on him.
Cui Wu thought for a moment before answering cautiously, “It’s hard to say. Perhaps the young master’s feelings for Miss Su aren’t love…”
Zhou Suisui’s eyes lit up. Sister Wu had reached the same conclusion she had.
“Sister Wu, please make an appointment with her first. I’ll go with you when the time comes.”
“Of course!”
Cui Wu agreed immediately.
Just then, the cell phone lying beside them chimed with a text message. The instant Zhou Suisui heard it, she snatched up the phone.
[Miss, CEO Zhou isn’t going to see Miss Su. He’s gone back to the office.]
After reading the message, Zhou Suisui let out a breath of relief, her tense shoulders relaxing.
Perhaps the gift her brother had taken really was for a client.
She put away her phone and began humming a cheerful little tune.
If her brother stopped associating with Su Wan, he should be able to change the tragic fate he had suffered in her previous life, right?
“Why are you so happy, Miss?”
Seeing her happiness, Cui Wu couldn’t help feeling happy as well.
“My brother gave me so many gifts. I’m the happiest younger sister in the whole world, of course I’m happy.”
Zhou Suisui wore an utterly blissful expression.
Cui Wu couldn’t help envying her. “That’s true. I’ve never seen siblings with such a close relationship.”
They called each other “brother” and “sister,” but the young master was also a father and mother to the young miss. He had raised her himself, carefully nurturing her like a little rose. How could he not cherish and spoil her?
“By the way, Miss, weren’t you going to the Jiang family today? It’s nearly time. Go have some breakfast first. I’ll organize your gifts for you. You still need to buy those pastries in the southern part of the city.”
Cui Wu couldn’t help reminding her.
Zhou Suisui came back to herself and glanced at the time.
“Oh, right. I’m almost late.”
She rummaged through the gifts and pulled out a set of platinum skincare products, pushing it toward Cui Wu.
“Sister Wu, this is for you. My brother bought it for you.”
“For me?”
“They’re anti-wrinkle products. My brother just isn’t good with words. He actually thinks about you all the time.”
Cui Wu accepted the gift, touched. “Thank you, Young Master and Miss.”
“Don’t be so formal. You’re my sister, and you’re part of the Zhou family too.”
Cui Wu wasn’t used to such sentimentality and hurriedly urged her, “Miss, go eat breakfast already. Stop wasting time here with me.”
“I’ll save room to eat more at the Jiang family’s house. I’m skipping breakfast. I’ll go upstairs and get ready first.”
Zhou Suisui selected a few small pieces of jewelry, along with a diamond brooch shaped like a rose, then hurried upstairs with them in hand.
“Slow down. Don’t fall,” Cui Wu called after her.
She shook her head and calmly began putting everything away.
Half an hour later, Zhou Suisui came downstairs, dressed and ready.
Today, she was wearing a sporty outfit: a fitted white top that accentuated her perfect waist and made her full yet tasteful figure look even more alluring. Her black, slightly flared pants emphasized the length and straightness of her legs.
Her palm-sized face was lightly made up, making her look even more fresh and breathtaking.
She had used a curling iron on the roots of her long black hair, giving it soft, gentle waves that fell over her petite, rounded shoulders.
At nineteen, she was youthful and full of energy, eye-catching as a little sun.
“Sister Wu, I’m leaving.”
Zhou Suisui called out to Cui Wu, grabbed her car keys, and headed out.
If she was any later, the pastries Aunt Jiang loved would sell out.
As usual, the pastry shop in the southern part of the city was packed. After waiting in line for nearly half an hour, Zhou Suisui managed to buy the last portion of osmanthus cakes.
By the time she stood at the entrance to the Jiang family’s home with the pastries in hand, the sun had quietly climbed overhead.
The gate was equipped with facial recognition, and Zhou Suisui entered the villa with practiced ease.
The moment she looked up, she was captivated by the scene before her.
On the enormous circular viewing balcony on the east side of the second floor, a man in light-colored casual clothes was reclining in a white wicker chair.
He held a book in one hand, while the other rested lazily along the edge of the chair. His fingers were long and well-defined, his skin an arresting, cool white.
The golden midday sunlight spilled over everything, while the luxuriant branches of the old banyan tree outside the Jiang family’s home cast the man in complete shade.
The sunlight flashed into Zhou Suisui’s eyes, and her heart gave an uncontrollable flutter.
