Bro, If You Keep Being a Simp, I’ll Go After Your Rival

Chapter 13

Zhou Suisui froze, a flicker of understanding passing through her eyes.

After being fired, Uncle Wang would definitely call Su Wan at the first opportunity.

Su Wan had always treated her brother like a lovesick fool, firmly believing that he would listen to her. Naturally, she assumed he would call and demand an explanation.

“Little sister, you eat first. I’m going to take a call.”

Zhou Sui'an walked to the side and answered.

“Wanwan, you finally decided to answer me.”

Ever since Su Wan had threatened to jump into the river the night before and he had refused to indulge her, she had ignored him no matter how many apologetic messages he sent.

Now that she had taken the initiative to call him, did that mean she was no longer angry?

Su Wan had originally intended to take advantage of the situation to keep him under her thumb and ignore him.

But before one problem could be resolved, another arose.

She had no choice but to call Zhou Sui'an herself. Her anxious voice came through the phone.

“Sui'an, why did you fire Uncle Wang? He’s already in his fifties. How can you drive him out over such a minor matter? Do you really have to be so ruthless?”

Zhou Sui'an’s expression stiffened slightly. “He used the car to take private jobs without permission, which violated company regulations. Firing him was already lenient. If the circumstances had been more serious, I could have sent him to the police.”

Su Wan was clearly stunned on the other end of the line. She probably hadn’t expected Zhou Sui'an to speak to her in such a tone.

After a few seconds, her voice became indignant. “Sui'an, this was Zhou Suisui’s idea, wasn’t it? She’s still young, so it’s normal for her to be willful. You can’t keep indulging her like this.”

“Su Wan.”

Zhou Sui'an’s voice suddenly turned cold. “I allowed this to happen. It has nothing to do with her. Taking private jobs without permission was Wang Jianguo’s mistake in the first place. Suisui only did what she was supposed to do. My sister has every right to fire a driver.”

This was the first time Zhou Sui'an had rejected Su Wan so bluntly, without showing her any consideration.

Su Wan immediately panicked. “That’s not what I meant. Why are you deliberately misinterpreting my words?”

Zhou Sui'an was puzzled. “Wanwan, why are you so worked up? You and Uncle Wang... shouldn’t have much of a connection, right?”

“No! How could I possibly know him?”

Su Wan’s aggrieved voice suddenly turned flustered.

She couldn’t admit her relationship with Wang Jianguo.

Otherwise, sooner or later Zhou Sui'an would suspect that the so-called lifesaving benefactor was nothing more than a scam they had orchestrated together.

Sitting nearby, Zhou Suisui listened to her brother defend her. The corners of her lips curled into a smile.

Su Wan wasn’t particularly clever or emotionally intelligent. In her past life, she had been able to lead him around by the nose simply because she was shameless enough to do anything and had no moral limits.

Zhou Sui'an breathed a sigh of relief. “Then don’t involve yourself in this. It’s a minor matter and not worth your concern.”

“...”

Su Wan was rendered speechless by his words.

An hour earlier, her uncle had called to tell her that Zhou Suisui had fired him for using the car to take private jobs and earn extra money.

When Su Wan heard that it was such a trivial matter, she hadn’t taken it seriously at all.

“Why are you panicking over something so minor? I’ll say a word to Zhou Sui'an, and he’ll obediently apologize to you.”

Wang Jianguo immediately relaxed. “Exactly. Zhou Suisui should know her place.”

“Just wait for my good news.”

After hanging up, Su Wan sneered.

Zhou Sui'an had stood her up twice in a row the night before. Given her temper, she wasn’t going to forgive him easily.

But this matter was different.

If her uncle were fired, who would be able to provide her with Zhou Sui'an’s whereabouts in the future?

That was absolutely unacceptable.

She had called Zhou Sui'an at once, thinking it would be settled with a single sentence.

Yet she never expected him to defend Zhou Suisui, or even question what kind of relationship she had with Uncle Wang.

Of course, she couldn’t reveal the truth.

She was so furious that her teeth ached, but she could only swallow her anger and suffer in silence.

Forcing a smile, she tried to give herself a way out.

“I just thought Uncle Wang was pitiful and asked casually. Since that’s how you see it, forget it.”

Seeing this, Zhou Sui'an softened his tone a little. “Wanwan, I know you meant well. You have a kind heart. But I have my own position on this matter. I hope you can understand.”

It felt as though she had punched a wad of cotton, only to have all her strength absorbed.

Su Wan was seething inside, but she couldn’t let it show.

“I understand.”

Su Wan hung up and nearly smashed her phone in fury.

“Zhou Sui'an! He actually refused to listen to me? What on earth is going on?!”

Beside her, Wang Zhen idly flipped through the compensation agreement in her hands. “Why are you getting so worked up? How much money can he make as a driver? When the time comes, just ask him for an expensive gift. Your uncle couldn’t earn that much even if he drove for the rest of his life.”

Wang Zhen’s reminder immediately brought a smile to Su Wan’s face.

“You’re right. I’ll ask him for an expensive gift later.”

“That’s more like it. I’ll send him the compensation agreement later and have him pay the amount first.”

“Got it.”

-

Inside the office.

Zhou Sui'an rubbed his sister’s head, a hint of guilt in his eyes.

“Suisui, you heard what Su Wan said just now, didn’t you? Let me apologize to you on her behalf. She was probably misled by someone.”

Zhou Sui'an assumed that Wang Jianguo had been unable to get through to him and had gone to Su Wan to stir up trouble.

Zhou Suisui raised an eyebrow. Her clear eyes quietly studied her brother as she smiled without saying anything.

It was fine. She would take things one step at a time.

Her brother had just refused Su Wan’s request. That was a good beginning.

If she struck back too hard all at once, her brother might have trouble accepting it.

Slowly turning up the heat was the right approach.

She was very satisfied with the outcome.

She had acted first and sought permission later.

What she was betting on was that, at such a critical moment, Su Wan wouldn’t dare expose their relationship.

At the same time, she hadn’t dared take the risk herself. She was worried that if the relationship between Wang Jianguo and Su Wan came to light, her brother might instead be unable to bring himself to deal with Su Wan ruthlessly.

Now that she had quietly taken care of Wang Jianguo, Su Wan could only swallow her anger. Who knew how furious she was at this moment?

“Come on, eat, Brother.”

Suisui was in such a good mood that, despite already being full, she couldn’t help taking a few more bites.

Zhou Sui'an quietly let out a sigh of relief.

His sister really had become more sensible. She was learning to understand how difficult things were for him as her brother.

“Suisui, you and Jiang Zongyan were lying to me, weren’t you?”

“Hm?”

At those words, Suisui instantly went on high alert.

Had her lie been exposed so quickly?

Zhou Sui'an smiled, his eyes filled with certainty and affection.

“He only returned to the country the night before last. How could he possibly have had time to meet you at a hotel?”

The previous night, he had secretly sent someone to investigate Jiang Zongyan’s whereabouts.

He discovered that after returning from abroad, Jiang Zongyan hadn’t gone anywhere at all. He had gone straight to a hotel to recover from jet lag.

At the time, Zhou Sui'an had been so furious that he had believed all the nonsense she told him.

But after thinking it over, he realized that something didn’t add up.

“...”

Zhou Suisui tightened her grip on her chopsticks, her breathing growing rapid.

What was she going to do?
