Before announcing today’s itinerary, Director Zhang was over there running an ad, so the three siblings whispered among themselves while they waited.
Xie Tangning quietly guessed, “Judging by how smug that old rascal Director Zhang sounded, I bet he’s taking us to climb Mount Laojun today.”
Lu Huaiyu nodded. “I think so too, but probably not right now. Most likely we’ll go in the afternoon to watch the sunset, and then see the lights at night.”
If they were going to watch the sunrise, they would have to set out in the middle of the night. With so many staff members and guests, it would be difficult to guarantee everyone’s safety.
Given Director Zhang’s personality, no matter how badly he wanted to promote the beautiful scenery of his hometown, he would never joke around with the safety of the guests and crew.
So the only possibility was that they would be going to see the sunset.
Following along with his little sister and big brother, Xie Changyu imagined the scene. “That would be great. The three of us could watch the sunset from the mountaintop.”
“Just thinking about it is so romantic. Once all this is over, let’s bring Mom and Dad and the others back here again!”
Lu Huaiyu happily agreed. “Sure. But wouldn’t it be a little mean to leave Great-Grandpa out when all of us go?”
Although Old Master Xie was still in excellent shape, he wasn’t quite fit enough to climb a mountain like Laojun Mountain.
Grandma and Grandpa, being in their seventies, were actually still at a perfectly suitable age to go out and conquer the world.
Xie Changyu’s brain overheated for a moment before he continued being terrible. “Good point. Then we’ll just take lots of pictures and bring them back for Great-Grandpa!”
“Let him see how beautiful the places are that his old arms and legs can’t reach anymore. We’ll make him good and jealous!”
Xie Tangning and Lu Huaiyu both gave him the exact same look of instant understanding. What a wonderfully filial great-grandson!
The next second, they changed expressions in perfect sync. Xie Tangning stuck her tongue out at her second brother. “By the time you show those pictures to Great-Grandpa, he’ll probably laugh you to death!”
Lu Huaiyu wore the same teasing expression. “When Great-Grandpa was young, he conquered all three mountains and five sacred peaks. He’s been to Laojun Mountain so many times he’s probably lost count!”
“Did you seriously never notice where those photos hanging in the old residence were taken?”
Mocked mercilessly by both his little sister and big brother, Xie Changyu gave a meek little “Oh.” “I just didn’t remember for a moment!”
“Besides, the scenery he saw when he was young must be different from what it is now. I don’t care!”
“When we climb it today, you two have to take lots and lots of pictures for me to bring home. I want to make the old man jealous!”
“And don’t just sit around either. Start thinking of poses for the photos!”
This extremely filial great-granddaughter, Xie Tangning, instantly joined the “Family Filial Piety Show” team. “They have to be youthful, abstract, and fun poses!”
Lu Huaiyu was just as shameless. Without even thinking, he suggested, “Then the three of us can take commemorative photos doing poses that people from Great-Grandpa’s generation definitely couldn’t have come up with.”
“It’ll only be fun if we make him so jealous that he chases the three of us around with a cane!”
The two younger ones both let out a loud “Wow.” “Ginger really is spicier when it’s old! When it comes to being shameless, Big Brother, you’re the best!”
Lu Huaiyu clicked his tongue lightly to show his dissatisfaction at their teasing.
By the time Director Zhang finished running his ad, the three siblings had already completed another round of whispered conversation.
That was enough to show just how long the advertisement break had been. But what could they do? This was what success looked like!
Ever since the show had become a huge hit, advertisers had been knocking on Director Zhang’s door one after another. All that lovely money had grown wings and flown straight into his pockets.
After reciting the long string of advertising copy, he looked as though his soul had been elevated. The cleansing power of money truly was extraordinary!
The assistant director watched his colleague, who had no idea what sort of fantasies he had slipped into and was now wearing an intoxicated, nostalgic smile. He let out a deep sigh.
Then he snatched the little megaphone from him.
This show would fall apart sooner or later without him!
“Ahem, everyone, quiet down!”
“Now we come to the main event! I’m sure everyone is eagerly awaiting the details of today’s itinerary!”
“Allow me to announce it: this morning, we’ll be visiting the Luoshi Ancient Art Museum. This afternoon, we’ll be heading to Laojun Mountain, climbing to the summit, and watching the sunset.”
Upon hearing the assistant director’s announcement, Qin Shuchun lightly bumped her elbow against her bestie. “Ergou, you guessed right again! There really is a Laojun Mountain!”
“Baby, you’re amazing. You can read Director Zhang’s little schemes like an open book!”
Praised by her sworn bestie, Xie Tangning giggled happily. She linked arms with her and gently rested her head on her shoulder, looking like a boneless little cat.
“Of course. A little Director Zhang is easy for me to handle!”
“I just don’t know where he got the confidence to think he could tire out guests as perfect as us. His skin is as thick as my second brother’s!”
One jab at the two of them apparently wasn’t enough for the child. Her little mouth kept running as she added another dig.
“If they gave me even one-tenth of their confidence, I wouldn’t be so introverted that I have to leave the house through the sewer!”
Qin Shuchun immediately played along with her absurdity. “Same here~ I usually don’t even dare go out by myself.”
“I normally ride a giant cockroach whenever I leave the house. That way, no one dares come up and talk to me. For a socially anxious person like me, it’s practically salvation!”
Liang Zhou and Shen Yunqiong, who had been listening to the entire exchange nearby, looked at the two besties with a hint of horror in their eyes.
Liang Zhou turned to Shen Yunqiong, his head full of question marks. “Are they speaking human language? Why can’t I understand a single word?”
Shen Yunqiong shook his head blankly. “I don’t know either~ I’m illiterate, remember?”
At that moment, he was actually a little grateful that he hadn’t gotten into the honors class back then. At least he could be an “illiterate” in an ordinary class!
Clearly, these two good brothers, who were always willing to go through hell and high water for each other, had also been thoroughly shaken by the two besties’ remarks.
They simply couldn’t understand how two people with the thickest skins and the kind of confidence that bordered on arrogance could say the words “socially anxious” with a straight face.
Director Zhang, however, hadn’t heard the children’s bizarre exchange. He had only caught their brazen declarations, so he turned around and glared fiercely at them.
“How dare you look down on my plans! Looks like you’ve forgotten how exhausted you were yesterday!”
The moment Director Zhang finished speaking, Wu Dacheng reacted dramatically. “I haven’t forgotten, Director Zhang!”
“So can you please not drag me into this? I’m so adorable—can’t you let me off just this once~”
Director Zhang immediately flashed a villainous smile. “Heh heh heh~ So you’re planning to abandon your boss and leave him to fend for himself?”
Wu Dacheng’s reaction was even more intense this time. “I’m warning you, don’t make things up!”
“I’m the most loyal lackey under my boss! Don’t even think about driving a wedge between us!”
Director Zhang let out a mocking laugh. “Then you’d better enjoy the physical torture I have planned for you! Neither you nor your boss is getting away!”
The Little Demon Pill had found his weakness with ease. That child’s Achilles’ heel was his boss—it couldn’t have been more obvious!
Wu Dacheng: π_π
How wicked of Director Zhang! He was going to draw a circle and curse him to eat instant noodles without a seasoning packet for the rest of his life!
Director Zhang looked at the child sitting there in a gloomy funk, the smile at the corners of his mouth growing ever more obvious.
Sure enough, making someone else’s child cry gave him an inexplicable sense of accomplishment!
