Jiang Mo was utterly speechless upon hearing this. Look at you, thinking you're so clever.
What a scheming dog of a man. Saying he just gave her a light shove? Yeah, right, as if anyone would believe that.
Attorney Li, clearly accustomed to such situations, watched coldly as the man finished his performance before asking indifferently, "Are you sure? You merely pushed your wife, and she wasn't injured?"
"I just gave her a little push. She lost her balance and fell—that's hardly my fault," Zhou Qian said, crossing his legs and sipping his coffee. "My demand is that she gets none of my car, house, or any of that. She also has to return the betrothal gifts."
Jiang Mo, sitting nearby, tried to hold back but couldn't. This guy had absolutely no shame. She couldn't help but let out a derisive "Hmph."
"What? What's so funny?" Zhou Qian snapped.
"Nothing. I just saw a video online earlier saying that 'the ultimate shamelessness is invincibility,'" Jiang Mo said, curling her lip. "Didn't realize there were so many people like that in real life."
Zhou Qian flared up. "Are you insulting me?"
Jiang Mo smiled and waved a hand dismissively. "Not at all. If you insist on taking it personally, that's your problem."
Seeing this, Attorney Li interjected, "Mr. Zhou, let's focus on understanding your situation so we can best protect your interests."
Only then did Zhou Qian shift his focus back.
Jiang Mo learned that this guy had gotten married three months ago, then cheated by flirting with people online, leading his wife to ask for a divorce.
Zhou Qian's family had a bit of money, so the couple was now tangled in disputes over the house, car, and assets, failing to reach an agreement. That's why he had sought a lawyer.
After hearing the details, Attorney Li could only say she was all too familiar with such cases. "If your wife is available, we could all sit down and talk, try to settle this privately. As the party at fault, it will be somewhat difficult for all your demands to be met."
"Then just dig up some dirt on my wife, why don't you?" Zhou Qian said with a slouchy, irreverent air.
This time, Jiang Mo outright rolled her eyes. To avoid disrupting Attorney Li, she simply got up and went outside for some air.
She returned only when their discussion was nearly finished.
Zhou Qian looked at Jiang Mo and had to admit that in this entire cafe, she stood out as strikingly beautiful.
A real shame he hadn't managed to get anywhere with her back then.
Running into her now made that old itch flare up again.
"Let's exchange WeChat. I can consult you if needed, and I'll refer clients to you too."
"No need. Attorney Li is handling your case. You can communicate directly with her," Jiang Mo flatly refused.
Having his offer shot down stung Zhou Qian's pride, and his expression darkened. "What's your problem? Just because you're decent-looking, you act all high and mighty. Don't think I don't know what you're after—trying to snag a rich guy. But guys like that wouldn't want someone like you anyway."
"Hmph, no need for your concern. I have a boyfriend. He's taller, handsomer, and richer than you."
"Keep dreaming," Zhou Qian scoffed, immensely annoyed to hear she had a boyfriend who was supposedly better than him in every way.
Jiang Mo couldn't be bothered to argue further. She caught Li Canxia's eye with a look that said, "Let's get out of here, sis."
Once in the car, Jiang Mo finally let loose a stream of complaints.
"You'll see plenty more cases like this. There's no shortage of such people. Human nature can't withstand much testing," Li Canxia comforted her, then asked with a smile, "So, you have a boyfriend?"
"Mm-hmm, I do."
"Ah, the tall, handsome, and wealthy boyfriend," Li Canxia teased.
Jiang Mo felt a bit embarrassed. "I just said that off the cuff."
That evening, while chatting with Gu Ye, Jiang Mo recounted the whole incident as a rant.
Gu Ye remembered this person. "That guy is disgusting. Stay away from him from now on. Don't touch his case."
Jiang Mo: "Yeah, I told Attorney Li. I'm planning to work on other cases."
This time, after she sent the message, Gu Ye didn't reply as quickly as he usually did.
Jiang Mo took a shower and got into bed. "Got work tomorrow. I'm going to sleep first."
Gu Ye still hadn't replied.
Puzzled, but overcome by drowsiness, Jiang Mo fell asleep.
The next day, news about Gu Ye popped up on her trending feed.
