Gu Ye shook his head helplessly in the video call. "Jiang Xiaomo, do you think everyone is as slow on the uptake as you are?"
"What do you mean?" Jiang Mo's little brain started turning. "Could it be that you just randomly guessed and happened to get it right?"
Gu Ye began to explain. "I've seen that senior of yours a couple of times before, remember? Even then, I could tell he was interested in you."
Jiang Mo didn't believe him. "You only met him twice, didn't even speak to him, and you knew?"
"Men have a seventh sense too," Gu Ye recalled. "You can tell from the look in someone's eyes and their body language."
Good thing he made his move early.
"Is it that accurate?" Jiang Mo remained skeptical. "I told Senior Pei that I have a boyfriend."
"Oh?" Gu Ye's tone lifted at the end. "Well done. As a reward, you get to sleep in my bed for a night. My bed is big and very comfortable."
"What are you talking about?" Jiang Mo pouted. This guy always steers the conversation in that direction.
"What I mean is, it's so late already. You might as well just stay over at my place," Gu Ye said seriously. "By the time you finish up and go home, it'll be almost eleven."
"I'm not even home, I won't eat you up..."
His voice trailed off towards the end.
Just then, the rain outside suddenly intensified. The light drizzle from half an hour ago had now turned into a torrential downpour, as if trying to keep someone from leaving.
Jiang Mo got up and went to the window to look, muttering, "The rain's gotten so heavy."
Hearing this, Gu Ye immediately chimed in, "See how heavy it is? Driving wouldn't be safe. You should just stay over."
"But I didn't bring a change of clothes," Jiang Mo said, pacing back to the sofa and picking up Maomao to place on her lap.
"There's a dryer at home. You can wear my pajamas tonight, and just wash and dry your clothes," Gu Ye suggested.
Jiang Mo didn't give a direct answer, mumbling vaguely, "Let me see if the rain lets up later."
Unfortunately, after waiting half an hour, the rain was still pouring.
Gu Ye secretly rejoiced. "See, I told you. Just sleep here. It'll be more convenient for work tomorrow anyway."
Jiang Mo checked the time and looked up at the rain. "Well then... where are the new pajamas?"
"Go to the closet in my room. There are several robes. There's a blue one that's never been worn."
"This one?" Jiang Mo rummaged around in the walk-in closet and found the new sleepwear.
Holding the pajamas, she walked out. "I'll go find a guest room."
"The guest rooms are empty, no one's stayed in them. The beds aren't made up with sheets or duvet covers. It would be such a hassle. Just sleep in my room," Gu Ye said.
Jiang Mo: "Is that okay? It doesn't seem right."
It was more than okay.
The corners of Gu Ye's mouth turned up. "It's perfectly fine. Go to sleep. If you're scared, you can move Maomao's bed into the master bedroom to keep you company."
They chatted a little longer before ending the video call.
After Jiang Mo finished her shower and put on the robe, she went to check a guest room. Seeing the empty, bare room, she hesitated for a moment but ultimately went to the master bedroom, moving Maomao's bed inside as well.
"Maomao, you and I will keep each other company tonight."
She carefully got into bed, lying on the unfamiliar mattress. Thinking that this was the bed Gu Ye slept in made her feel a bit awkward, her toes curling and uncurling beneath the duvet cover.
If in the future they had to share a bed...
Don't think about it, don't think about it...
"Sis, are you home?" A message came from Li Zheng.
Seeing the message, Jiang Mo tensed up for a second. Then, realizing her younger brother was out of town, her demeanor turned bold. "What are you doing sending messages in the middle of the night? You scared me. What do you want?"
Scolded, Li Zheng felt wronged. "No, I just wanted to ask if you're home and if you're asleep. There's something in a drawer in my room. Could you mail it to me at school?"
"We'll talk tomorrow," Jiang Mo said. "I'm going to sleep."
Li Zheng: "Sleeping so early..."
Jiang Mo didn't reply further. She scrolled through her phone for a while before feeling sleepy.
She thought she might have trouble sleeping, but she ended up sleeping soundly until morning.
Woken by the alarm, she was disoriented for a moment before remembering where she was.
At the office, she had barely warmed her seat when Jiang Mo went with Li Canxia to meet a client.
They went out together. Previously, Li Canxia always drove, but lately, sometimes Jiang Mo would drive.
They arrived at the agreed-upon café. Once inside, Jiang Mo looked up, feeling like she hadn't checked her luck before leaving home today.
Running into this person was truly unfortunate.
"Jiang Mo! It's you!" The man across from them was delighted.
Li Canxia glanced over. "You two know each other?"
Jiang Mo nodded reluctantly. "We went to the same school before."
Yes, the man opposite was the eight-hour black spot in Jiang Mo's past that she preferred not to mention.
Zhou Qian was busy trying to chat with Jiang Mo. "You're not a nanny anymore? Back to being a lawyer, huh? I told you being a nanny wouldn't work. See, I was right, wasn't I?"
Jiang Mo really wanted to roll her eyes. But with professional decorum, she held back.
Besides, she remembered Attorney Li telling her today's case was a divorce, right?
"That injury on your forehead looks pretty serious. Were you assaulted?"
Zhou Qian touched the wound on his forehead, cursing under his breath. "That vicious woman did this. You see? This is all evidence."
Jiang Mo knew this man's character all too well. "I'm guessing your wife is probably injured too?"
"I just gave her a little push," Zhou Qian argued. "For this divorce, I want her to leave with nothing, completely empty-handed."
