"Oh?" Wu Xia looked her up and down. "You're also from A University? What's your major?"
Jiang Mo answered somewhat timidly, "Yes, I'm also studying law."
Wu Xia sat down on the sofa and glanced at her. "You sit too, don't just stand there. Are you and Little Ting quite close? I haven't heard him mention you."
"Are you a local of Jiangcheng? Where are you currently working?"
"I'm a local, currently interning at a law firm," Jiang Mo answered truthfully, still feeling a bit constrained and not entirely at ease in front of Wu Xia.
Wu Xia asked in detail and realized she wasn't very familiar with Jiang Mo's firm; it was probably a small, not well-known practice.
"I was just passing by and came up to take a look, planning to tidy up his place and pick up a few things," Wu Xia explained, giving her reason for coming up.
She glanced at the two cats in the living room, frowning. "These are two stray cats he brought in from outside. I told him not to keep them, but he insisted. If you want a cat, you might as well buy a pretty pedigree one, don't you think?"
Jiang Mo didn't quite agree with this. She said softly, "Actually, our Chinese domestic cats are quite good-looking too."
The skinny, yellowish cat seemed to understand her words and meowed twice in their direction.
Wu Xia's eyebrows twitched. "I really don't understand you young people's taste."
After saying that, she got up, went to the fridge to get a bottle of mineral water, drank it standing at the kitchen island, then turned and went into the bedroom.
Jiang Mo had pretty much finished feeding the cats and could leave now.
She planned to wait for the other woman to come out, say goodbye, and then go.
After a few minutes, Wu Xia came out, holding a manila envelope file in her hand.
As she walked, she said, "I was wondering how you recognized me since we've never met. Just now, while tidying up inside, I remembered you also study law, so that explains it."
"Both his father and I are in the legal profession. What do your parents do?"
"My mother is a housekeeper, and my father is a driver," Jiang Mo replied, returning the courtesy.
"Hmm..." Wu Xia said jokingly, "Then your parents must have worked very hard, putting in a great effort to raise you, right? It's not easy to get into A University."
Jiang Mo found these words a bit strange and somewhat uncomfortable.
She mumbled, "It's alright, not that hard."
It really wasn't that hard. Her parents never interfered with her studies; she was left to her own devices.
As her dad used to say, "Sweetie, if you can study at school, then study. If you can't, then just eat more. I'll keep your meal card topped up."
Of course, she never skimped on meals alongside her studies.
"Well, Auntie Wu, I've finished feeding the cats, so I won't disturb you any further. I'll head back now," she announced her departure.
"Alright, I've got my things too. Let's go down together," Wu Xia said directly, walking to the entryway to change her shoes.
Jiang Mo had no choice but to pick up her bag and wait by the door.
The rhythmic sound of Wu Xia's high heels echoed on the smooth, polished floor as Jiang Mo followed behind.
The two waited for the elevator.
"A couple of days ago, I introduced this kid to a girl who works in the public sector. Her family is also in the system. But this kid has been on a business trip and hasn't found the time," Wu Xia brought up the topic casually, as if making small talk. "This kid's love life is such a headache."
"You probably don't have such worries, do you? Do you have a boyfriend?"
"I do," Jiang Mo thought, since they don't know each other, it doesn't matter if she knows.
Once in the elevator, Wu Xia asked with interest, "What does your boyfriend do?"
Jiang Mo: "He's in the arts."
On the first floor, Jiang Mo got out of the elevator, while Wu Xia took it down to the basement level.
Once outside, Jiang Mo took a deep breath. Interacting with Senior Pei's mother had really put some pressure on her.
After returning home, Jiang Mo lazily lay on the sofa, not wanting to move.
Her phone vibrated.
Gu Ye: "Is Uncle Li home now? Is it convenient for us to video call?"
Upon learning no one was home, Gu Ye eagerly initiated the video call.
"You... could you put on some clothes, please?" Jiang Mo said, stealing glances at the screen while pursing her lips.
"If you want to look, then look openly... After all, this body will be for your use sooner or later," Gu Ye drove straight onto the expressway.
"Ew... what kind of outrageous talk is that?" Jiang Mo coughed twice. "I'm a proper person."
"You, you're proper. I'm the improper one," Gu Ye chuckled. "So, how did it go today feeding cats for that senior of yours?"
"It was fine. His cats are quite lively," Jiang Mo said. "It's just that when I went today, I happened to run into the senior's mother."
Gu Ye asked about it, then said, "See, my mom is much more comfortable to be around, right?"
"By the way, I have an apartment outside, though I've never lived there. After I get back, why don't you go take a look? It doesn't seem too far from your company either."
Living at home while dating can be a bit inconvenient sometimes.
Jiang Mo didn't quite understand. "You want to move out and live on your own? Isn't living at home just fine?"
