"With my grandpa and my mom keeping an eye on things at home, it's still not very free," Gu Ye didn't state it directly, just offered an excuse.
"I've been wanting to move for a while, but something came up and delayed it. The new place is missing a lot of things. When the time comes, you can help me pick stuff out."
"Alright, we'll go take a look after you get back. Where is your place anyway?" Jiang Mo didn't think much of it. She propped her phone up on the coffee table, took a nail clipper from the drawer, and started trimming her nails, head bowed.
Gu Ye had been chatting just fine, but his gaze was unconsciously drawn to the mesmerizing expanse of pale skin across the screen.
"Um... it's over by Riverside Bay."
"You sure know how to pick a location," Jiang Mo said, finishing the nails on her left hand and glancing at the video call.
She saw Gu Ye's focus fixed on a particular area, gulping down water from his plastic bottle.
Puzzled, she looked down at herself and saw her cleavage.
She was wearing a V-neck dress today, and the neckline was a bit low. Bending over, her attractive figure was on full display.
A blush crept up her face and spread to her ears. Jiang Mo tugged at her dress and muttered, "What are you looking at?"
"Maybe you should take a look at mine instead?" Gu Ye said without a trace of embarrassment.
After all, they weren't face-to-face; she couldn't tell.
"Who wants to see yours," Jiang Mo huffed, changing the subject. "When are you coming back?"
Gu Ye smirked: "What's the matter? Miss me? Can't wait to see me? I'll be back in two days."
They chattered on for a while longer until Jiang Mo said she needed to go take a bath, ending the call.
Gu Ye finished up his work outside quickly and flew back to Jiangcheng.
During dinner with the Gu family that evening, he announced his plan to move out and live on his own.
"Don't miss me too much. I'll come visit you all from time to time."
He half-expected everyone to try and persuade him to stay, but the table fell silent for just a second before everyone went back to eating and drinking as usual.
Gu Ye repeated himself: "I'm moving out. And that's your reaction?"
"We heard you, no need to shout," Su Yunjin said calmly. "Move out if you want. Did you expect us to send you off with a fanfare?"
Their son was grown up and needed his independence. Gu Guofeng didn't object to him moving out, but was curious. "What made you suddenly decide to move out?"
"Heh, bet this kid's got a girlfriend, hasn't he?" Gu Baotian chuckled. "Probably wants to set up a love nest of his own."
"A girlfriend?" Su Yunjin perked up. "Really?"
"My grandpa loves joking around," Gu Ye said, shooting a look at the old man. "I just want to live alone, for the freedom."
"When are you moving?" Gu Guofeng asked.
"I'm planning to move tomorrow," Gu Ye said.
This kid, always in such a rush. Gu Baotian spoke up, his tone humorous. "Moving tomorrow? That's too late. Why don't you just move out right after dinner tonight?"
Gu Ye: "..."
After the adults had their say, Gu Xuan tugged on Gu Ye's sleeve, pledging his loyalty. "Second Brother, don't worry, I'll miss you."
"It's just... can I inherit all the figurines in your room?"
"Hah, no," Gu Ye said, pulling his arm away.
Gu Xuan tsked: "Second Brother, you're so heartless, so cold."
After dinner, Gu Baotian called Gu Ye over. Seeing no one else around, he whispered, "Be honest with your grandpa. Are you moving out to live with Little Mo?"
Gu Ye sighed: "I wish. But Little Mo hasn't agreed to that yet."
