Qin Yulian snapped back to reality and quickly nodded, responding, "Oh... alright."
As she spoke, she hastily pulled out her phone from her pocket, her fingers trembling as she dialed the number. Her mind was in turmoil, endlessly speculating about how severe her eldest son's injury might be.
From his reaction earlier, it didn’t seem like a simple fall or fracture.
Had he been beaten up?
Who would dare cripple her son’s leg?!
Her son was always the one bullying others—no one had the audacity to lay a finger on him!
Just as she was lost in thought, her second son, Jiang Zhao, and her adopted daughter, Jiang Yonghe, returned. Qin Yulian immediately approached them and asked, "Zhao, Yonghe, do you know what happened to your elder brother’s right leg?"
Jiang Yonghe wore an uneasy expression.
Jiang Zhao spoke bluntly, "It must’ve been that wild girl, Jiang Youli!"
He then recounted how he had gone to Starlight Entertainment the previous day to complain to his elder brother and how he had just witnessed Jiang Youli disrespecting him in the garage.
This infuriated Qin Yulian. "She’s truly rebelling against the heavens! If she really did this, I won’t let her off!"
Gritting her teeth, she added, "Investigate! Get to the bottom of this immediately!"
...
Jiang Xing struggled to drag his useless right leg back to his room, slamming the door shut in frustration.
After sitting on the bed, he rolled up his pant leg and stared at the severed tendons in his right leg, his face twisted in pain.
Time crawled by, and just as Jiang Xing’s patience was about to run out, a knock finally sounded at the door.
"Xing, the doctor is here," Qin Yulian’s voice called from outside.
Jiang Xing’s heart leaped with relief. He forced himself to stand, dragging his heavy steps to the door, and pulled it open to let the elderly doctor carrying a medical kit inside.
"Mom, you can leave now," Jiang Xing said, suppressing his pain and keeping his tone as steady as possible.
Qin Yulian gave him a worried glance but nodded and stepped out, closing the door behind her.
Once the door shut, the old doctor examined Jiang Xing’s leg and asked with concern, "Madam Qin asked me to check on your injury, Young Master."
Jiang Xing shook his head, his voice grave. "Not the leg. I need you to identify what kind of poison is in my system."
The doctor gasped in shock. "Poison?!"
He immediately set down his medical kit and had Jiang Xing sit on the bed, conducting a thorough examination.
As the check-up progressed, the doctor’s expression grew increasingly grim, his brows knitting tightly together.
After a long silence, the doctor sighed helplessly and said apologetically, "...I’m sorry, Young Master. I don’t know what poison you’ve been exposed to."
Jiang Xing’s face darkened instantly, his voice dropping low. "Is there any medicine that can suppress the effects?"
The doctor shook his head, his face bitter. "Young Master, if I can’t even identify the poison, how can I possibly prescribe an antidote?"
Jiang Xing paled. This doctor was one of the most authoritative in the country, personally hired by the Jiang family. If even he couldn’t diagnose the poison, was there truly no hope?
Long after the doctor left, Jiang Xing finally picked up his phone and dialed a number.
"Boss Lin, do you know any experts in detoxification?"
Boss Lin was the owner of the largest auction house in the capital, with an extensive network that included many powerful figures.
On the other end, Boss Lin replied, "Of course. The best detoxification expert in the country is none other than the master poisoner herself. What, have you been poisoned?"
"Yes. I’ve been poisoned. Money is no issue—just find me someone who can neutralize it."
Boss Lin hesitated. "Young Master Jiang, money isn’t the problem. But meeting that female poison master won’t be easy. She only comes to me to auction new medicinal herbs she cultivates, each worth at least ten million. She certainly doesn’t lack funds."
"Then how can I reach her?" Jiang Xing demanded, desperation creeping into his voice. If he couldn’t rid himself of this poison, he’d be at Jiang Youli’s mercy forever.
The humiliation was unbearable—worse than death itself!
"I don’t have a way to contact her directly. The next time she brings rare herbs for auction, I can notify you."
"...Understood. Thank you, Boss Lin."
Jiang Xing hung up, gripping his phone tightly, his eyes icy with hatred.
Once he found a way to cure himself, he’d make sure Jiang Youli suffered a fate worse than death!
...
Jiang Youli returned to the villa, gathered the herbs she had been drying, and took them to her room, sorting them into different wooden boxes.
Just then, her phone rang.
It was Ye Ying.
Likely a report on the investigation she had assigned—the current state of the Jiang family’s businesses.
She dusted off her hands and answered.
"Boss, I’ve gathered all the information you asked for on the Jiang family’s enterprises."
"Currently, the majority of the Jiang family’s revenue comes from Jiang Pharmaceuticals. However, under Jiang Yangxu’s management, the company has been declining. They haven’t produced any innovative drugs in years, while competitors keep pushing new breakthroughs and recruiting fresh talent."
"With Jiang Yangxu’s stubborn refusal to adapt, Jiang Pharmaceuticals will only struggle more in the future."
"The second-largest revenue stream is Starlight Entertainment, now managed by Jiang Xing. He’s made some progress, signing a few promising newcomers and producing minor hits. But they’ve never achieved a blockbuster SSS-level success."
Here, Ye Ying’s cool voice dripped with sarcasm.
"So, Jiang Xing is now desperate to acquire the rights to the last unpublished novel by the renowned author Li Li Yuan Shang, hoping to turn it into a mega-hit. Everyone in the industry knows Li Li Yuan Shang has only written four books—the first three adaptations were massive successes. Naturally, this last one is a coveted prize for every entertainment company."
Jiang Youli’s eyebrows rose. What a coincidence—she was Li Li Yuan Shang.
Ye Ying continued, "Jiang Xing will never get his hands on that copyright, not in this lifetime, since you’re the author, Boss."
Jiang Youli chuckled softly before asking, "What about my handsome new dad? What’s he managing in the Jiang family now?"
Ye Ying’s voice returned to its usual detached tone. "Your father currently oversees the newly established AI tech company—Green Bud Technologies. But since it’s still in its early stages, the revenue isn’t impressive."
Jiang Youli’s lips curved slightly.
"Artificial intelligence," she murmured, her interest piqued.
She knew the immense potential AI held for the future, with limitless applications.
That was why, in between cultivating new herbs, she had dedicated significant time to researching AI—even securing patents for her latest breakthroughs.
Once her patent application is approved, all she needs to do is transfer the patent to Green Bud Technology, and the company is certain to skyrocket to success in the capital city!
