Everyone watched in surprise as Zhou Yueshen walked towards the main gate.
Hearing that a woman was looking for him, most of the workers were new and didn't know who it could be.
They were curious now. "Who is it? The factory manager looks in such a hurry."
"Seems like it's a woman?"
Everyone was busy, and though they'd heard someone was asking for Zhou Yueshen, they didn't dare run over to look.
"You guys don't know, do you? It must be our sister-in-law!" said someone who had worked with Zhou Yueshen before, his tone full of knowing pride.
"Sister-in-law? Really? The factory manager seems so icy and aloof, he doesn't seem like someone who could find a wife."
Images of Boss Zhou, nearly two meters tall and built like a mountain, popped into everyone's heads.
Every time he was there processing pork, a cigarette dangling from his lips, a cleaver in one hand. Even though it was just butchering pigs, it somehow sent a chill down their spines.
What woman could possibly handle such a formidable man?
"Nonsense. No one but sister-in-law is worth the boss personally going out to greet." The man laughed, then pointed at Zhou Yueshen's retreating figure. "See that? The boss even changed his clothes. Was he ever the type to change clothes twice in one day before?"
Everyone hurriedly strained their eyes to look.
Sure enough, what Zhou Yueshen was wearing wasn't the grey tank top from the morning.
It was a brand-new sweater.
Even though the weather was still a bit chilly, when they big men got busy working, who would still wear a sweater?
They'd rather strip down to get the job done.
Considering this possibility, they all couldn't help but sigh with amazement.
So this is how Boss Zhou acts in front of a woman?
...
A military-green off-road vehicle was parked not far from the factory.
Yang Yujie surveyed the desolate surroundings and the breeding farm before her.
Her brows were furrowed so tightly they could crush a fly.
Yang Yujie couldn't understand it. He clearly had a promising future as an official.
Yet Zhou Yueshen chose to be the owner of a pig farm.
Although doing business was indeed a major trend and a way to make money after the reforms.
How could it compare to being an official?
Suppressing the frustration in her heart, Yang Yujie took a deep breath and looked into the distance.
A tall figure was approaching from afar, walking very fast.
His sharp, stern features held an indescribable softness.
Yang Yujie was taken aback.
Did he know she was coming, and that's why he was in such a hurry?
The complicated feelings from a moment ago instantly vanished.
Yang Yujie's expression transformed immediately.
The woman known as the untouchable flower of the military district now rarely showed a different side of her emotions.
She wasn't wearing her military uniform today, but had changed into a form-fitting dress, holding an umbrella, looking very elegant.
Seeing him suddenly stop, she took the initiative to step forward. "Zhou Yueshen, it's me."
Zhou Yueshen came to a halt, frowning as he looked her over. Under Yang Yujie's expectant gaze, he frowned. "You are?"
Yang Yujie: "...."
The bodyguard beside her was equally astonished. "Regiment Commander Zhou, have you lost your memory? You don't even recognize Regiment Commander Yang Yujie?"
"Yang Yujie?" Zhou Yueshen's frown deepened, even carrying a hint of displeasure.
This displeasure left the two even more confused.
What was going on?
After so many years apart, shouldn't he be very happy?
Bodyguard Little Li didn't quite understand the situation.
He had heard Regiment Commander Yang mention Regiment Commander Zhou in nine out of ten sentences, and coupled with the old rumors, he thought the two must have a very good relationship.
In the military district, there was even a story circulating about their tragic love.
In love but unable to be together due to their status differences.
Regiment Commander Zhou was forced to leave to protect Regiment Commander Yang...
And Regiment Commander Yang remained chaste and unmarried for life for Regiment Commander Zhou's sake.
Ahem, how touching... at least that's what he thought.
But why was he being told that Regiment Commander Zhou didn't even recognize Regiment Commander Yang?
Could it be that amnesia, that cliché plot, was also part of their cliché love story?
This! Was too tragic!
Zhou Yueshen's mouth twitched.
His voice was cool. "What do you want?"
He hadn't had much contact with Yang Yujie. Although there were many performances back then, there were so many women performing, how was he supposed to remember who she was?
They had met a few times later, but back then in the army, the men had shaved heads and the women had short hair.
Everyone looked dusty and worn.
Plus, so many years had passed. Zhou Yueshen was also face-blind. If he didn't make a point to remember, how could he?
Yang Yujie's smile froze on her face.
She had imagined a thousand different scenarios for their reunion.
She just never imagined it would be like this.
The softness on Zhou Yueshen's face from a moment ago seemed to have never existed; it must have been her hallucination.
Now his expression was exactly like when they first met.
Cold and distant.
Hard to approach.
"Regiment Commander..." The bodyguard looked at Yang Yujie, seeing the shock on her face was even greater than his own.
For a moment, he didn't know what to do either.
Yang Yujie clenched her fists, comforting herself that too much time had passed.
Plus, she was wearing makeup now, had changed her clothes, and had matured.
So he didn't recognize her right away.
It's fine.
She took two steps forward, lifting her chin. "Is this how Regiment Commander Zhou treats a guest?"
Zhou Yueshen's gaze swept over her coldly. "An uninvited guest?"
Yang Yujie's face turned pale then flushed.
"You, how can you be so..."
Zhou Yueshen was already impatient. "If there's nothing else, I'm going back."
With that, he turned to leave.
"You, stop right there!" Yang Yujie's face flushed red with anger.
Zhou Yueshen's steps didn't pause.
"Are you very busy?" Another woman's voice rang out.
Zhou Yueshen stopped dead in his tracks.
He turned his head and saw a familiar, smiling face standing at the gate. Holding a familiar thermal lunchbox, she stood there looking lovely.
Almost without thinking, he strode forward.
"Si Nian?" He opened the main gate, sweeping past the stunned Yang Yujie like the wind. "What are you doing here?"
Si Nian glanced at the person behind him, then lifted the lunchbox in her hand. "Bringing you something to eat."
"It's so far." Zhou Yueshen's eyes softened a few degrees, the earlier sternness gone, as if he had become a different person. "No need to bring it next time. The factory has people who cook. It's too far."
Si Nian gave him a playful glare. "You want me to bring you food every day? Dream on."
Zhou Yueshen chuckled helplessly. "Let's go inside first."
Si Nian agreed, then looked towards Yang Yujie—tall, with a curvaceous figure and the looks of an ice queen.
She whistled inwardly.
What a beauty!
Was Zhou Yueshen blind before?
How could he not be interested in such a stunning woman?
Unaware of being silently criticized, Zhou Yueshen took the lunchbox from her hand, held her, and started walking towards the factory.
Yang Yujie's fists were clenched tight, her voice seeming to squeeze out from between her teeth. "W-a-i-t!"
Zhou Yueshen didn't want to pay any attention, but Si Nian stopped.
Both of them turned around.
Yang Yujie's face was as dark as the bottom of a pot.
She pulled a letter from inside her coat. "This is a letter for you from the Commander."
Then, she turned and left.
