But he would be on guard against Si Yiheng for the rest of his life, until Shu Yu lived out her remaining years happily and contentedly.
Si Lanzhi finally saw another side of Song Wenzhao—what seemed like warmth and politeness was nothing more than an act.
Si Yiheng was right; she couldn't outplay Song Wenzhao.
Looking at Song Wenzhao's smile, Si Lanzhi suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
A bunch of lunatics.
"Mr. Song, I'll take my leave now," Si Lanzhi said hastily, fleeing. "My father still needs my care."
Shu Yu was brushing her teeth with her eyes closed. "Iron Egg, why does it feel so good to do things with your eyes closed?"
"I'm thinking about closing my eyes next time I sketch, too."
Iron Egg: [Baby, that's not called sketching with your eyes closed—that's called falling asleep.]
Shu Yu kept brushing her teeth with her eyes shut, chatting idly with Iron Egg, when suddenly she felt her hand holding the toothbrush being grasped. She opened her eyes and saw Si Yiheng.
Si Yiheng naturally wrapped his arms around her from behind, completely enveloping her in his embrace.
Shu Yu blinked gently, her words muffled. "Are you going to brush my teeth for me?"
Si Yiheng looked at their reflection in the mirror—Shu Yu nestled in his arms—and a wave of tenderness welled up in his heart. "Let me help you. You can close your eyes now."
Shu Yu picked up her phone from the counter and took a picture of them in the mirror.
Si Yiheng, still holding the toothbrush, lifted his chin to cooperate.
The mirror captured the two of them: Shu Yu leaning against Si Yiheng's chest, her hand on the toothbrush, his hand wrapped over hers. His chin rested on the top of her head, his gaze calm as he looked into the mirror, a faint curve barely tugging at the corner of his lips.
After they finished washing up, Si Yiheng and Shu Yu looked at the photo together. Just from looking at it, you could feel the happiness in that moment.
Si Yiheng's eyes narrowed slightly. Now that he and Shu Yu were this happy, he wouldn't allow anyone to disturb them.
Shu Yu smiled at the photo too. "Iron Egg, I think I should take more pictures with Si Yiheng."
To capture their happiest moments.
Iron Egg raised a hand: [I can help you document them!]
Shu Yu propped her cheek on her hand and chuckled. "No need, I'll do it myself—from my own perspective."
It felt different that way. Even after they parted, she could relive everything from the angle she had filmed it.
Si Yiheng said, "Yu Bao, go change clothes. Once you're dressed, we'll head home."
Shu Yu was still in her pajamas. She tilted her head up to ask Si Yiheng, "Should we go say goodbye to Grandpa?"
Si Yiheng replied, "Yeah."
Shu Yu and Si Yiheng turned toward the wing where Grandfather Si lived, bid him a quick farewell, and then Si Yiheng led Shu Yu downstairs.
When they reached the garden, Si Yiheng realized he had forgotten his tie upstairs—the one Shu Yu had given him.
"Yu Bao, I'm going back up to grab something. Want to come with me?"
Shu Yu scanned her surroundings. There was no one in sight, and going all the way back meant a long walk—the Si residence was enormous. She didn't feel like it.
Spotting a large tree in the corner, surrounded by magnolia trees that created a perfect hiding spot, Shu Yu slipped behind it. Unless someone was paying close attention, they wouldn't notice her there.
She poked her fuzzy head out from behind the tree. "Brother, I'll wait for you here."
Si Yiheng suppressed a smile. "Not afraid of being found?"
Shu Yu shook her head. "It's not that easy to spot me."
She was good at hiding.
"Brother, go ahead."
His eyes softened. "Mm, I'll be right back."
What Shu Yu and Si Yiheng didn't know was that someone had been watching them all along.
The moment Si Yiheng left, Song Wenzhao's butler discreetly called him and snapped a photo of where Shu Yu was hiding, sending it to him.
"Young Master, Miss Shu Yu is here. Please come quickly."
Song Wenzhao replied in a steady voice, "Mm, you come back. Find a way to get something from her room—preferably her toothbrush, or some hair."
He couldn't enter Shu Yu's room right now.
Today, he needed both to meet Shu Yu and to do a DNA test. He had to produce evidence so that Shu Yu would willingly come home with him.
