Two years after graduating, Lu Qiwu and Xie Yanxun finally held the wedding that belonged to them.
Their married life was just as passionate as it had been when they were dating.
Not long after the wedding, Xie Yanxun found himself troubled by a very serious problem.
His newlywed wife often forgot that they were already married.
For example, one evening after work, Xie Yanxun personally prepared an entire table of beautiful dishes and waited for his wife to come home so they could have dinner together.
But even after an hour had passed since Lu Qiwu got off work, she still hadn’t returned.
Xie Yanxun stared at the untouched dishes, sinking into thought. Then, as if he had suddenly remembered something, his expression flickered with bewilderment and confusion.
After another two seconds of silence, he called Lu Qiwu.
“Wife, are you working late tonight and not coming home for dinner?”
There was a hint of uncertainty in his voice, along with a faint, almost imperceptible note of anticipation.
Meanwhile, Lu Qiwu had already gone back to her parents’ home, enjoyed a delicious dinner, and was getting ready to pack for their honeymoon the next day.
She didn’t notice anything unusual about what Xie Yanxun had said.
“No, hubby. I’m already home and have eaten my fill!”
“Why? Is it so late and you still haven’t had dinner?”
Xie Yanxun, on the other end of the phone: “???”
I knew it! I knew this was what happened!
“Wife, did you forget something?”
“Or have you already gotten tired of me right after we got married? Do you… do you still want me?”
Hearing the aggrieved little voice coming through the phone, Lu Qiwu paused for once.
“!!!”
Oh, right! She had forgotten that she was a married woman now!
No wonder Mom and Dad had looked at her so strangely during dinner, as if they had something to say but couldn’t bring themselves to say it!
So that was why!
“Would you believe me if I said that on my way home from work, I was somehow possessed and inexplicably ended up coming back to Mom and Dad’s house?”
“I really didn’t mean to leave you behind! Wait for me—I’m coming back right now to eat the dinner you made!”
Mrs. Lu was a woman of action. The moment she finished speaking, she hung up, changed her clothes, grabbed her keys, and headed for the door.
Her husband had gone to all the trouble of preparing dinner for her. She absolutely had to show up and give him some support.
Otherwise, she was afraid Xie Yanxun might hide somewhere and secretly cry.
After all, he was the man she had chosen. Even if she had to crawl, she would still spoil him.
On the other end, Xie Yanxun only had time to say “Hey, hey” twice before the call was cut off. He stared at the phone and once again fell into deep thought.
“Just as expected of the person I fell in love with at first sight. So decisive, so bold.”
While he praised his wife without reservation, he dialed Lu Wenhua’s number.
He asked Lu Wenhua to stop Lu Qiwu from coming over. It was late at night, and he couldn’t bear to make her travel back and forth.
Instead, he packed up a little of every dish he had made and drove from their new home to his wife’s other home.
Lu Qiwu had just reached the living room, ready to rush out, when Qi Rou and Lu Wenhua stopped her after receiving the call.
“Why are you running off? Xiao Xun is already on his way here. Just wait at home.”
At that point, Lu Qiwu’s thought process was still wonderfully peculiar.
She could only say regretfully, “Damn it! He beat me to it again. Next time, I’ll definitely be faster!”
There was not the slightest trace of newlywed awkwardness in her reaction—only the regret of failing to get there first.
Just like when they had been dating, the two of them were a couple who treated every interaction like a competitive showdown.
Qi Rou and Lu Wenhua fell silent at the same time, then suddenly found the whole thing rather amusing.
These two young spouses acted as if there were something wrong with their brains, turning every day into utter chaos.
They really were a perfect match.
The two parents happily gossiped about their daughter, never once mentioning that they had been exactly the same when they were young.
Their chaotic, lively life continued for some time.
Then, on a whim, Lu Qiwu decided that she wanted to go exploring in a tropical rainforest.
When it came to his wife’s ideas, Xie Yanxun had always been supportive—and he proved it with action.
So the couple calmly dumped their respective companies back into the hands of the several moms and dads who were preparing to enjoy their retirement.
By the time the four elders received the news, the young couple were already in the Southern Hemisphere.
Qi Rou, Chen Linmei, and the others had no choice but to curse and grumble as they went back to the office to fill in for them.
At the edge of a rainforest somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, Lu Qiwu and Xie Yanxun were engaged in a friendly exchange with a local Indigenous tribe.
The tribe was part of a partially developed tourist attraction, not a dangerous, isolated tribe that rejected contact with the outside world.
The young couple had changed into traditional costumes, and the exposed skin on their bodies had been painted yellow and black. They looked exactly like two wild people.
Perhaps they had simply gone crazy from working too much. The couple threw off the restraints of civilized humanity and let themselves go for once.
Even the locals praised them, saying they looked more local than the locals themselves.
At the time, they never imagined that more than twenty years later, their own two children would dress up and go wild as savages in exactly the same way.
Somehow, fate really did have a strange sense of humor.
“Hubby, turn around!”
Lu Qiwu raised her camera and called out to Xie Yanxun, who was talking with the locals a short distance away.
Xie Yanxun turned around instinctively, and Mrs. Lu quickly pressed the shutter.
And so Xie Yanxun was captured forever in a photograph: dressed in Indigenous clothing, several patterns painted across his face, holding a wild chicken, and staring ahead with a thoroughly bewildered expression.
Xie Yanxun was inspired as well. He took the camera and snapped several sets of uniquely styled photographs of Lu Qiwu.
As for why these pictures never came up later when they teased Xie Tangning and Xie Changyu about their own savage outfits, the reason was naturally that the couple had hidden them well!
The moment the photographs were developed after they returned home, they were locked away in their memory book.
Actually, when Xie Tangning was very young, the album was found and brought out once. But she had been too young at the time and remembered nothing.
In the end, she had suffered simply because of her age.
Lu Huaiyu and Xie Changyu happened to be at school then, so they never saw the pictures.
After finishing their exploration at the edge of the rainforest, Xie Yanxun suggested that they go to Antarctica to see the penguins.
Mrs. Lu had always been someone who loved to indulge the people she cared about, so there was no reason for her to refuse.
And so the couple happily checked another destination off their list, while the two pairs of parents back home launched into another round of cursing and grumbling.
The young couple in Antarctica did not have the romantic trip one might imagine.
That was because they were both practically freezing to death.
Xie Yanxun held Lu Qiwu in his arms, trying to shield her from the icy wind.
However, the wind in Antarctica was no ordinary winter breeze. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t block out the bone-chilling cold.
Lu Qiwu shivered violently while directing Xie Yanxun to crouch down quickly.
Since they were already there, she absolutely had to get a photo with the penguins.
Xie Yanxun knew his wife’s personality and never wanted to spoil her fun. He swiftly moved to the exact spot she indicated and crouched down.
In the distance, a colony of penguins looked on with apparent curiosity at these two eccentric travelers from another part of the planet.
Only after Lu Qiwu had taken as many pictures as she wanted did they switch places and let Xie Yanxun take the camera.
The couple took turns photographing one another, and the entire process lasted less than three minutes.
Once the pictures were done, they hurriedly rolled back onto the exploration ship to warm up.
They were the perfect example of people with enormous enthusiasm but absolutely no ability to endure the activity.
