Nowadays, so many young couples struggle with fertility issues. Song Xinya and Qin Yuhe are inside a small room, while outside, a long queue made up entirely of men has formed.
A woman walks past the group, staring at the men and muttering, "Poor things, all these men can't father children."
Sweat drops pop on every man's forehead.
So embarrassing.
So not happy.
(ᗜ˰ᗜ)
The man at the very front of the line turns his head, looks at the woman and says, "Sis, watch your words. We're only here for a test, the results aren't out yet, don't label us as those poor guys who can't have kids."
The other men all nod in full agreement: "Maybe we're perfectly fertile!"
Everyone is dying to get their test done as soon as possible. On one hand, they're eager to find out their results, on the other hand, please, they really can't stand standing out here listening to all this nonsense any longer!
All of them stare at the door up ahead, wondering why the guy inside hasn't come out yet.
The man at the front says, "This kind of thing should only take five minutes, right?"
The male staff member who led Qin Yuhe into the room earlier chuckles and says, "Oh, so you finish in five minutes?"
The man fires back: "I go for fifty minutes, man!"
Inside the room, Song Xinya is squatting down by Qin Yuhe's legs...
She looks up, her pretty, charming face flushed bright pink, lips slightly swollen, her voice soft and sultry as she hurries him: "Hurry up, there are so many people waiting outside in line."
Qin Yuhe rests his palm on the top of her head, the blue veins on the back of his hand bulging clearly, one after another.
"Mrs. Qin, whether I can go fast or not depends entirely on you."
Song Xinya stands up, braces both hands on the table, turns to look at him, and throws him a coquettish glance, her eyes sparkling, utterly captivating.
"Come over here now."
Qin Yuhe walks over, his veiny hands wrap firmly around her slim waist, pulling her close against him.
"Okay."
…………………
The door to the small room finally opens.
Qin Yuhe is holding the long test tube with the sample inside, facing all the stares from the crowd, his face completely calm, unshaken.
Song Xinya has wrapped a scarf all around her head and face, only leaving her two eyes peeking out.
There's no other way, she's far too shy, even mosquitoes would feel bad trying to bite her.
Qin Yuhe goes to turn in their test sample, and Song Xinya says, "I'm going to wash my hands."
In the women's restroom, she scrubbs her palms hard, using soap three full times.
Then she holds her hands up to her nose to sniff, and finally that odd smell is gone.
Except...
Song Xinya looks down at her legs, they're still a little wobbly.
It's fine, she can walk by holding onto the wall.
She's making her way out leaning against the wall, when bad luck strikes all at once: a woman staring down at her phone not looking where she's going bumps right into her.
Her legs that already feel as weak as cotton can't hold her anymore, she stumbles backward, and her lower back knocks hard against the bathroom sink.
Before she can even say anything, the woman across from her snaps sharply, "Can't you watch where you're walking? Do you even have eyes?!"
Song Xinya looks at the woman who popped out of nowhere: "You're the one without eyes, Zhang Yingying."
Zhang Yingying crosses her arms over her chest: "We really are fated to run into each other even in a hospital restroom."
Song Xinya: "I didn't expect to run into a little crayfish as soon as I stepped out, small, deaf, and blind."
Zhang Yingying gets the deaf and blind part, but asks: "What do you mean I'm small?!"
Song Xinya: "Tiny brain, tiny mind, tiny chest."
Zhang Yingying is most upset about the last part: "Who said my chest is small!"
Song Xinya: "Your front's as flat as a board, your back's as flat as a plank. Other people are 'having well-formed ideas ready to go', you're 'having nothing at all up front'. It's not that you don't have breasts, they're just all hidden away! They're the travel-sized version, right? Super portable, they say the best things come in tiny packages."
That rapid fire string of words leaves Zhang Yingying dazed and confused.
Song Xinya steps steadily out of the restroom.
It takes Zhang Yingying ages to finally process what was said, and she yells toward Song Xinya's back: "What are you even doing here at the hospital?"
Song Xinya turns back to look at her: "What are you doing here at the hospital?"
Zhang Yingying: "Buying sleeping pills."
Ever since she ended up deep in debt, she hasn't been able to sleep a wink every night.
Zhang Yingying's eyes rake all over Song Xinya. Song Xinya looks perfectly healthy, glowing, with a bright, roseate tint at the corners of her eyes, nothing like someone who's sick.
"Now you tell me, what are you doing here?"
Song Xinya gives her a soft smile: "Sorry, I don't have any obligation to answer you."
She turns around, her sleek, shiny long hair sweeping through the air in a gorgeous arc as she walks away.
Zhang Yingying is so mad she knows she's going to have even more trouble sleeping tonight.
Song Xinya meets up with Qin Yuhe at the nurse's station.
Qin Yuhe: "I asked the doctor, the test report won't be ready until tomorrow."
Song Xinya: "I'll come back tomorrow to pick it up."
Qin Yuhe: "If you're busy with work, I can have my assistant come get it for you."
Song Xinya takes everything related to having a baby extremely seriously: "I'll come get it myself."
The two of them walk out the hospital doors.
The second their figures disappear from sight, Zhang Yingying steps out from behind a wall.
Song Xinya wouldn't tell her what she was doing at the hospital, but Zhang Yingying's own aunt is the dean of this hospital, so finding out what Song Xinya was here for is child's play.
Zhang Yingying's heels click loudly against the floor as she marches off to find her aunt...
When Song Xinya gets back to her company, Chen Siyan walks in holding a stack of documents.
"Ms. Song, these are the resumes of the candidates we interviewed earlier. If you think there's no issue, we can notify them to start their jobs."
Song Xinya flips through the resumes. All these candidates already passed the first and second round of interviews, and she personally interviewed every single one in the final round.
She's always had an excellent memory, and she remembers all of them perfectly.
Every single one graduated from top universities, their academic backgrounds and communication skills are all top tier.
"Notify them to come onboard."
Chen Siyan: "Got it, I'll tell the HR department right away."
Song Xinya: "I need to go back to the hospital tomorrow morning, I'll only be gone for an hour. While I'm out, Mr. Chen, you'll be in charge of overseeing the company as usual."
Chen Siyan: "No problem. I'll handle small matters on my own, and run any big decisions by you first."
He asks with concern: "Ms. Song, are you going to the hospital because you're not feeling well?"
Song Xinya: "Flu."
Chen Siyan: "But you've been coming down with the flu so often lately?"
Song Xinya: "Do you want me to sneeze on you so you can get to be this 'frequent' right along with me?"
Chen Siyan quickly covers his nose and hurries toward the door: "No need! Just pass me your good luck, no need to pass me the flu."
The next day, Song Xinya finishes the weekly meeting with all her employees, lays out all the key tasks for the week, and heads off to the hospital.
She takes the elevator down to the company lobby and walks toward the exit, only to run straight into Zhang Yingying.
Zhang Yingying is here today for a contractor meeting. Even though the Magic City project still hasn't passed inspection, she looks way more cheerful than the last time they met.
No one knows what she's so happy about.
Seeing Song Xinya, Zhang Yingying takes the initiative to speak: "Song Xinya, where are you off to?"
Song Xinya: "To bring paper money for your grave, are you happy to hear that?"
Zhang Yingying scoffs, thinking to herself, enjoy being smug now, you're going to be crying soon.
Song Xinya arrives at the hospital, and picks up her medical report.
