Lin Wanyi woke up after all.
She got up to relieve Liu Renzhi:
"Go get some sleep. You're more tired than I am."
Liu Renzhi didn't refuse. The two moved in sync like an old married couple.
Lin Wanyi slept during the first half of the night, and Liu Renzhi slept during the second half.
When dawn broke, Li Suhua woke up.
But she was still groggy, with tubes in her head, barely able to move.
Lin Wanyi only heard her say:
"Keke, Keke."
Lin Wanyi held her hand:
"Keke is fine. Aunt Su has taken both her and Huihui to the villa. Mom, don't worry, just focus on resting and getting better.
"No one needs to be concerned."
Li Suhua drifted back into a dazed sleep.
The Liu family sent over breakfast. Liu Renzhi divided most of it for Lin Wanyi:
"Eat more. Food is fuel for the body."
Lin Wanyi ate heartily. After she was full, she urged Liu Renzhi to go to the company:
"You should go to work. It's daytime now, and I can manage on my own.
"Don't let this hold you up."
Liu Renzhi checked with the doctor one more time and only left after confirming that Li Suhua just needed observation.
As soon as he stepped out of the hospital, before he could get in the car, Zhao Yulan blocked him at the entrance.
Zhao Yulan said hastily:
"Nephew-in-law, I'm Wanyi's Eldest Aunt. You should know me, right?"
Liu Renzhi recognized her and responded politely:
"Hello, Eldest Aunt."
Hearing him call her Eldest Aunt, Zhao Yulan was overjoyed:
"Did Wanyi ever mention letting my son work at your company? Don't worry, my son is a proper college graduate. His skills are definitely up to the task."
Liu Renzhi remained patient:
"Yes, Wanyi told me. Eldest Aunt, I've already passed the word down. As long as Big Brother applies, it should be no problem."
Zhao Yulan was thrilled.
Lin Wanyi had told her the same thing before, but after a few days with no progress, she felt uneasy. Now that she had Liu Renzhi's own word, the heavy weight lifted from her heart.
As long as she helped Lin Wenbin get a good job, her daughter-in-law wouldn't dare give her that cold, dismissive look anymore.
The more she thought about it, the happier she became. She immediately called Lin Wenbin:
"Son, have you sent out your résumé yet?"
Lin Wenbin snapped back on the other end:
"I was just about to call you. Didn't you tell me Wanyi said it was a sure thing? Why was my résumé rejected?"
"Rejected? That's impossible."
Zhao Yulan's heart skipped a beat:
"I just ran into Liu Renzhi, and he said it was no problem. How did it get rejected now?
"Wait here. I'm going to go ask Lin Wanyi right away."
Fuming, she found Lin Wanyi. Seeing that they were even staying in a VIP ward made her even more upset:
"Wanyi, I originally came to visit your mom, but I need to ask you something first."
"What is it?"
Lin Wanyi pulled Zhao Yulan outside the ward:
"Eldest Aunt, go ahead and tell me."
Zhao Yulan panted:
"Wenbin just called and said his résumé was rejected by the Liu Corporation.
"What's going on? Didn't you say you'd already put in a word?"
Lin Wanyi was confused too. Liu Renzhi had indeed told her that. She could only reassure Zhao Yulan:
"Let me ask Wenbin about it."
She sent a message to Lin Wenbin:
"Show me your résumé. Let's see what the problem is."
Lin Wenbin sent it over quickly.
Lin Wanyi took a careful look and almost laughed.
Lin Wenbin had a second-tier university degree, and his work experience was all at small companies. Yet he applied for the position of sales department manager at Liu Corporation.
Of course they wouldn't accept that.
And the most ridiculous part was that his salary requirement was 80,000 yuan per month.
What was he thinking?
Lin Wanyi immediately told Zhao Yulan:
"Eldest Aunt, Big Brother's résumé won't pass. The minimum requirement for a department manager at Liu Corporation is a master's degree from a 211 university.
"Big Brother's education and work experience just don't measure up."
"What do you mean, 'don't measure up'?"
Zhao Yulan refused to accept it:
"You're about to become the lady boss of Liu Corporation. Can't you just arrange a spot for one person?
"Besides, your younger cousin Lin Jiajun only has a high school diploma—he didn't even go to college. How come he got in? And I know he makes 35,000 yuan a month.
"Going by his standard, our Wenbin asking for 80,000 yuan a month isn't too much at all."
Lin Wanyi sighed. She didn't want to keep arguing with Zhao Yulan.
She called Lin Wenbin directly:
"Big Brother, that position and salary requirement are way too high. It won't work.
"You can check online what the requirements are for a manager position at Liu Corporation. The gap is too big. There's really no way around this."
Lin Wenbin was much more reasonable than Zhao Yulan:
"I told Mom it wouldn't work from the start. She insisted it was just a matter of you saying a word, so I wrote it that way.
"Okay, Wanyi, I'll revise my résumé now and apply for a regular sales position. I'm not expecting anything fancy. I just care about the benefits.
"For the same job, their pay and perks are a third higher than what I get at my current company. Is that okay?"
"Yes, that's fine."
Lin Wanyi didn't give him a hard time:
"Then Big Brother, submit your résumé again, and I'll talk to them."
As soon as she hung up, Liu Renzhi called.
They both said at the same time, instinctively:
"My Big Brother."
"Your Big Brother."
They both paused.
Lin Wanyi put the call on speaker so Zhao Yulan could hear:
"My Big Brother's résumé had some mistakes before. I told him to resubmit it.
"Renzhi, please ask HR to take another look. It should be fine this time.
"Eldest Aunt is here."
Hearing Zhao Yulan's voice, Liu Renzhi didn't say much more.
How could he not know the ins and outs of this? It was all too common. Whenever someone has a successful relative, everyone wants to use that connection.
It didn't surprise him at all, and it certainly wouldn't change how he felt about Lin Wanyi.
Within an hour, Lin Wenbin received an interview invitation from Liu Corporation.
Excited, he called Lin Wanyi to tell her.
After finding out, Zhao Yulan left the hospital and rushed to his place.
This time, her daughter-in-law didn't give her a cold, sharp look. Instead, she offered a smile.
That had never happened before.
In the past, her daughter-in-law had never treated her well because of the housing issue.
Lin Wenbin was thrilled:
"Mom, we really do rely on Wanyi's help. Otherwise, with my education and work history, they wouldn't even consider me."
"Don't say that."
Zhao Yulan pursed her lips:
"You're thanking her? Wenbin, let me tell you why I rushed over here. Lin Wanyi never truly intended to help you.
"Otherwise, why would she only let you apply for a low-level staff position?
"I'm telling you, when you go to the interview, just say outright that you're the Big Brother of Liu Renzhi's fiancée.
"Lin Wanyi wants to avoid any suspicion, but don't you be foolish, you hear me?"
Lin Wenbin didn't listen to Zhao Yulan.
He knew his own limits.
He knew exactly what he was capable of. The last time, he followed Zhao Yulan's advice and applied for manager with an 80,000-yuan salary.
It was a complete joke. Now he regretted it deeply. Just getting into Liu Corporation was a huge blessing, and he didn't want to mess it up again.
"Mom, bosses aren't running a charity. Do you think they're stupid?"
"Humph!"
Zhao Yulan still wasn't convinced.
I just can’t stand the fact that Lin Jiajun, who doesn’t study or work hard, can get thirty-five thousand, while you can’t.
At the end of the day, it’s because Lin Wanyi doesn’t truly care about you.
She still favors her own younger brother.
