Following in My Mother’s Footsteps: Working as a Nanny for a Wealthy Family

Chapter 44

After the massage treatment, Jiang Mo felt completely relaxed, and the soreness in her thighs had significantly eased.

The skincare therapist handed her a mirror. "You can take a look at your skin now—it’s improved so much."

The room’s warm lighting brightened, and under its glow, Jiang Mo touched her face. "The results are amazing."

Her skin looked visibly smoother, plumper, and radiant, with a healthy glow.

Jiang Mo sighed inwardly—money really did make a difference.

She’d read online that once you reached a certain age, skincare products alone weren’t enough—you needed high-tech treatments.

And sure enough, this high-tech approach worked wonders. No wonder wealthy people always looked so youthful and beautiful.

"How do you feel about our spa’s environment and service? If there’s anything we can improve, please let me know," the therapist asked warmly.

"It’s great," Jiang Mo replied. If only she had the money, she’d come back for more sessions.

The therapist hadn’t found Jiang Mo’s name in the spa’s membership records, but she’d arrived with Madam Gu, chatting and laughing like close friends.

Clearly, they had a strong bond.

Madam Gu was a long-time VIP client with deep pockets, so this young woman was probably well-off too.

Securing her as a member would mean a hefty commission.

Motivated, the therapist brought Jiang Mo a cup of floral tea. "Thank you for your kind words. Please have some tea to refresh yourself."

Jiang Mo was indeed thirsty and took a sip, savoring the delicate flavor.

"I assume you usually go elsewhere for treatments since you’re not a member here. If you like our services, would you consider joining?" the therapist asked gently.

"Well... my home is a bit far from here."

The therapist smiled. "We have plenty of parking space, so driving over wouldn’t take long."

Then, with a determined tone, she added, "If you’d rather not drive, I can arrange a car to pick you up."

If she could close this deal, she’d even pay for the chauffeur service herself—it’d still be worth it. And if she maintained a good relationship, Jiang Mo might even refer other clients.

Jiang Mo could tell how eager the therapist was to make this sale.

She wanted to support her, but her wallet disagreed. This wasn’t like buying a watermelon or a cake.

Pulling out her phone, Jiang Mo said, "Let’s add each other as friends."

"Of course!" The therapist happily took out her phone and accepted the request, glancing at Jiang Mo’s playful profile picture.

"Shall I take you to register for a membership later? We also have complimentary wine—I’ll give you a couple of bottles to take home."

"What’s your name?" Jiang Mo asked while saving her contact.

"I’m Chen Ting, but you can call me Tingting," she replied. "And how should I address you?"

"Jiang Mo—just call me Momo."

Chen Ting nodded. "Got it, Miss Jiang."

"Actually... I won’t be signing up today," Jiang Mo said with an awkward grin. "Maybe next time!"

In her mind, she knew there probably wouldn’t be a next time.

But if she ever met other wealthy ladies in the future, she’d try to refer them here.

Chen Ting, seasoned in sales tactics, recognized the polite refusal.

However, in their line of work, such rejections were common, so Chen Ting wasn’t discouraged.

"Alright, we’ve added each other as friends now. If you’d like to book a treatment later, you can message me directly," Chen Ting said with a composed smile, guiding the client to the upstairs lounge. "Please feel free to relax here for a while."

The lounge was spacious, fully stocked with drinks and snacks.

Jiang Mo sent a message to Su Yunjin, letting her know she had finished her treatment and was waiting in the lounge. She added that Su Yunjin could call her whenever her own session was done.

Then, she turned her attention to the food.

The desserts at this high-end spa were exquisite—after all, wealthy clients had discerning tastes.

Wang Xia called to check on how things were going at the spa and how much longer they’d take.

"My treatment’s done, but Madam’s session is still ongoing," Jiang Mo explained. "I’m not sure how much longer it’ll be."

Beauty came at a cost—time, money, and effort—especially for women.

Wang Xia was well aware of this. Hearing background noise, she asked sharply, "Are you eating?"

"Yeah, the spa’s complimentary snacks," Jiang Mo replied cheerfully. "They’re actually really good."

Wang Xia sighed. "You can’t just keep eating like this. What if you gain weight? You should eat less and exercise more."

Jiang Mo groaned. "Exercise? Too exhausting. Not my thing."

Wang Xia deadpanned, "Then practice photo editing."

Jiang Mo: "..."

Meanwhile, Su Yunjin had finished her treatment but ran into an old friend. The two got caught up in gossip, so she took a little longer to join Jiang Mo in the lounge—where their lively chatter continued.

Gossip, it seemed, was a universal pastime.

Even the wealthy weren’t immune.

"Jiang Mo, how are you feeling? Any better?" Su Yunjin asked.

"Much better. A good night’s sleep, and I’ll be back to my energetic self tomorrow," Jiang Mo replied. "Madam, would you and your friend like some floral tea or Fiji water?"

Su Yunjin turned to her friend, who opted for the tea, then asked casually, "And who’s this young lady?"

"My family’s kid. She went hiking at Mount Tai with my father-in-law and came back limping, so I brought her for a massage," Su Yunjin explained.

"Your father-in-law is still so spry," the friend remarked with a laugh. "By the way, what about your two boys? Any romantic prospects? Need me to introduce them to someone?"

"The younger one isn’t in a hurry, but if you have someone suitable for the eldest, I’d love your input," Su Yunjin shrugged. "That one’s stubborn—Guo Feng and I can’t persuade him."

The friend reassured her, "Strong-willed means highly capable. You two are lucky. Hand the company over to him early—these days, so many second- and third-generation heirs just squander their family fortunes."

"Remember that family a while back? Their entire wealth was wiped out by the next generation."

Jiang Mo quietly served them floral tea, placing the cups on the coffee table beside the sofa, then resumed nibbling on cookies while listening.

Su Yunjin had heard about that case too, though even a "fallen" wealthy family still lived better than most ordinary people.

"Well, I’ve got multiple backups," Su Yunjin joked. "Three kids—only one needs to turn out right."

"Your second son’s doing great too—a big celebrity," the friend said. "His ads are everywhere. You really know how to raise them."

"Oh my, I never expected it either. Who would've thought Gu Ye would take up acting? And honestly, he’s quite good at it—I was surprised! The kid never had any formal training," Su Yunjin praised Gu Ye. Though she often criticized him in private, in front of others, she always defended her child.

The two chatted a while longer until it was time to leave, and the trio headed out.

At the entrance of the club, a young man approached, greeting Su Yunjin’s friend warmly and linking arms with her.

"Yunjin, we’ll head off first. Let’s meet up again soon."

Jiang Mo couldn’t shake the feeling that something seemed off about the scene.

Once they got into the car, Su Yunjin chuckled. "That’s her younger boyfriend."

"Uh… does her family know?" Jiang Mo had heard plenty about wealthy older women and their "young puppies," but this was her first time seeing it in real life.

"Her husband passed away before her, and her kids don’t interfere." Su Yunjin found Jiang Mo’s bewildered expression amusing and decided to tease her. "Have you ever hired a male escort?"

The question made Jiang Mo flush. She covered her face, shaking her head vigorously. She was curious—she’d only ever seen male escorts mentioned online.

Leaning in slightly, she whispered, "Madam… have you ever hired one?"

Su Yunjin glanced at the time, then smirked at Jiang Mo’s intrigued expression. "Come on, I’ll show you the world today."

Jiang Mo didn’t ask further. Half an hour later, she finally understood what Su Yunjin meant by "showing her the world."

She’d imagined it might involve golfing, horseback riding, or even racing…

But after puzzling over it the entire ride, they stepped out in front of a new club—or rather, a nightclub.

"Madam, is this… really appropriate?" Jiang Mo hesitated. This definitely wasn’t her idea.

Su Yunjin remained completely at ease. "What’s inappropriate about it? There’s no sign saying women aren’t allowed. We’re here to spend money—hold your head high."

Su Yunjin strode into the lobby, and Jiang Mo stuck close behind, not daring to lose her, while curiously glancing around.

The manager clearly recognized Su Yunjin and greeted her warmly, noting she was accompanied by an unfamiliar young woman.

"Mrs. Gu, just the two of you today? Or are other friends on the way?"

Su Yunjin replied casually, "Just us. Arrange my usual private room."

"Right away." The manager led them to a secluded room at the end of the hallway.

The room was spacious—about 60 or 70 square meters—with a large LCD screen. It wasn’t the dim, smoky, stuffy nightclub scene Jiang Mo had imagined. Instead, the air carried a faint hint of jasmine perfume.

"Madam, are we here to sing?" Jiang Mo spotted the song selection on the tablet and scratched her head, realizing she’d overthought things. She’d assumed Su Yunjin had brought her for… other reasons.

Then again, what kind of respectable person visits a nightclub at 4 PM? The staff probably weren’t even on duty yet.

"Sure, pick whatever songs you like. I’ll order some drinks and snacks." Su Yunjin grabbed another tablet, expertly selecting food and drinks.

"Okay! Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to sing, and I’ll queue it up." Jiang Mo pulled out her phone, cross-referencing her music app as she started choosing songs.

"You go ahead and sing," Su Yunjin said after ordering food, then headed to the private restroom attached to the VIP room.

It had been a while since Jiang Mo last sang, so she cleared her throat and picked a song she was somewhat confident in, belting it out cheerfully.

Just as she finished the song, the door to the private room swung open.

Jiang Mo assumed it was the waiter bringing their food and barely glanced over, paying little attention.

But three men walked in—and didn’t leave.

"Uh, did you guys get the wrong room?" Jiang Mo asked, gripping the microphone.

"No, we’re here to entertain you," said the young man at the front. "You can call me Eleven."

The other two introduced themselves as well. "I'm Qiqi," said one. "And I'm Nannan," added the other.

Jiang Mo froze, frantically glancing toward the restroom. Why hasn’t the Madam come out yet? What on earth is going on?

The manager had briefed them earlier—Madam Gu had brought a young friend to have fun today, so they were told to keep things tame. That’s why the three men weren’t being too forward.

Eleven stepped closer, deliberately brushing against Jiang Mo. "What song did you pick? Want me to sing with you?"

Jiang Mo shifted away. "No, no, I’m fine on my own."

It suddenly dawned on her—Did the Madam order these guys?

"Then let me pour you a drink. What would you like?" asked Qiqi, the second guy.

Jiang Mo shook her head. "Uh, no thanks. I don’t drink."

"How about a dance then? Or I can perform a trending Douyin dance for you. I’m pretty good," Qiqi pressed, undeterred.

As he spoke, he settled onto the couch beside her, effectively boxing her in on both sides.

Unlike the excitement she’d seen in online videos, Jiang Mo only felt awkward.

After repeated rejections, the three men resigned themselves to sitting on the nearby sofa, playing the role of hype squad—cheering and clapping with props whenever Jiang Mo sang.

Just as Jiang Mo was singing while stealing frequent glances at the restroom, Su Yunjin finally emerged.

Jiang Mo exhaled in relief. "Madam, it’s your turn—your song’s up next!" She immediately cut off her own track.

Huh? Three guys, and the vibe’s still this dead?

Su Yunjin eyed the three men waving their props on the couch and walked over to Jiang Mo. "Not satisfied with these three? Want me to swap them out?"

Jiang Mo shook her head vigorously. "Madam, please just send them away."

"We paid for this. Today’s all about giving you the full experience," Su Yunjin said, amused by Jiang Mo’s flustered state. "Have fun."

She pointed at Qiqi and Nannan. "You two, take good care of this kid." Then she turned to the mic and started singing.

Despite Jiang Mo’s protests, Qiqi still performed a dance. She had to admit—he wasn’t bad.

But every time he inched closer, she instinctively leaned away.

Sure, I talk big sometimes, but turns out I’m just a boring goody-two-shoes at heart.

Luckily, the trio didn’t stay long.

As they left, two of them even asked for her WeChat. She declined.

"Good call. Don’t bother with that type," Su Yunjin remarked.

Once they were gone, Jiang Mo finally exhaled. One of them even tried to lift his shirt and make me feel his abs!

She dug into the steak pasta the waiter had brought, using the meal to calm her nerves.

Su Yunjin took a sip of her drink and asked, "Still curious about male escorts?"

"Not anymore," Jiang Mo shook her head.

"All that talk about hiring male escorts—people online joke about it, but those circles are actually pretty messy. You're still young, so don’t get too interested in sketchy stuff," Su Yunjin advised, sharing her wisdom.

Some things seem intriguing only because you haven’t experienced them yet. Once you do, the curiosity fades, and the illusion shatters.
