Following in My Mother’s Footsteps: Working as a Nanny for a Wealthy Family

Chapter 21

Liu Guochuan had no idea what the household staff were muttering about behind his back.

He had already arranged a time with Jiang Mo and was now engrossed in watching his own video—though he had replayed it countless times today. But seeing the number of likes skyrocket filled him with an indescribable thrill.

"Tomorrow, stock up on snacks that young girls like. Also, order some seafood like abalone and lobster to be delivered," Liu Guochuan instructed.

The housekeeper nodded with a complicated expression. "Yes, sir."

Jiang Mo had filmed Liu Guochuan’s video on a whim. Perhaps because Labubu was trending lately, the video had gained traction online. Seeing how happy he was, she felt glad that Old Man Liu’s skills were being recognized.

As a self-proclaimed slacker queen, Jiang Mo often scoured the internet for restaurant discounts and sold small unused items.

Luxury goods, though, had to be discounted—but not too much, or people might think they were fakes.

After doing the math, she estimated that selling everything could net her around a hundred thousand yuan.

Within half an hour of listing the items, someone messaged her.

Caterpillar: "Is this bag real? Any further discounts?"

Jiang Mo: "Yes, it’s authentic. The price is already very low."

Caterpillar: "How about 100 yuan? I’ll buy it right now."

Jiang Mo: "Then I’d rather keep it for myself."

Caterpillar: "This bag’s been used, and the color isn’t great. Fine, 150 yuan—that’s my final offer."

Jiang Mo: "…Goodbye."

After fending off the bargain hunters, she noticed a few more comments.

Overworked Dog: "I’m a student. Can you give it to me for free?"

Piggy Hero: "Your fake looks pretty convincing. I have the same bag—check my profile if you want it."

Swindler: "Buying old clothes, 10 yuan per pound. Interested?"

The bizarre comments and private messages piled up, and after replying to a few price inquiries, Jiang Mo was left laughing at the absurdity.

She sighed. "I really don’t have time for this nonsense."

Closing the chat window, she turned her attention to studying for health management and household administration certifications, planning to obtain the government-issued qualifications soon.

Late at night, just before bed, another message popped up on the second-hand platform.

Assuming it was another troublemaker, Jiang Mo was surprised when the buyer purchased over a dozen items outright.

She bolted upright in bed. "Hey, are you serious about buying these? You didn’t click by mistake, right?"

The reply came instantly. "No mistake. I want them."

"I run a vintage shop. Your taste is pretty good, and some tags are still attached. You’re selling quite a lot at once."

"These aren’t mine—they belong to the lady of the house," Jiang Mo explained, relieved to finally deal with a normal buyer.

"Oh, that makes sense. Wealthy ladies do tend to accumulate things. We’re in the same city—could you bring these to my shop tomorrow? If they’re good, I might buy more."

After getting the address, Jiang Mo agreed. "Sure, I’ll deliver them tomorrow. If you buy in bulk, I can give you an extra discount."

She hoped Old Li would be free in the morning to drive her there.

"Your dad left early to take President Gu to a conference in another city. No idea when he’ll be back," Wang Xia informed her.

Ugh. So much for hitching a ride.

She cursed her lack of driving skills.

Taxis were hard to come by in the villa area—most drivers avoided it.

Staring at the two giant sacks by the door, Jiang Mo opened a ride-hailing app.

"Where are you headed? If it’s on my way, I can give you a lift."

Gu Xun’s voice startled her.

"N-no, thanks." Why was he running late today? She’d assumed he’d left for work already.

She nudged the sacks with her foot—they didn’t budge.

Gu Xun watched her struggle. "Are these what you’re taking with you?"

He checked his wristwatch. "Get in the car."

Without hesitation, he grabbed both sacks and headed for his Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

"Let me—let me help!" Jiang Mo rushed after him. A tailored suit paired with burlap sacks was a bizarre sight.

But his strength was undeniable. He effortlessly loaded them into the trunk.

"Address?" Gu Xun asked.

Jiang Mo quickly pulled it up. "It’s just… the lady of the house had a lot of old clothes, so I sorted them out. A vintage shop owner wants them."

"Your idea, I assume?" Gu Xun knew his mother would never think of this, nor would she bother.

Jiang Mo rubbed her hands together and grinned. "You’re sharp, Young Master Gu. I figured it’s a way to recycle and recoup some losses."

Gu Xun didn’t comment. "Did you ever apply to our company when job hunting?"

Jiang Mo shook her head. "No."

She’d only sent resumes to law firms.

"We’re hiring lately. You should take a look," Gu Xun hinted.

"No need, Young Master Gu. I really like my current job—I’m learning a lot."

"Oh?" He glanced at her. Her relaxed expression suggested she genuinely enjoyed being a housemaid.

Jiang Mo nodded firmly.

The vintage shop was in the same direction as Gu Corporation, just farther out.

The shop owner was already waiting when they arrived.

Spotting the Cullinan, she thought a big client had arrived—until Jiang Mo stepped out with the sacks.

The absurd combination of a luxury car, a CEO in a suit, and burlap sacks left her speechless.

No doubt the items were genuine.

"Young Master Gu, we’re here. Sorry for the trouble," Jiang Mo said, waiting for him to leave so she could negotiate.

Once the Cullinan drove off, the shop owner sighed. "Hands down the hottest CEO I’ve ever seen. Girl, your boss is nice—driving you here himself?"

Then she frowned. "Wait, even the wealthy sell secondhand clothes now?"

Jiang Mo feigned wisdom. "That’s why they stay rich. Who doesn’t budget carefully?"

The shop owner nodded as if enlightened.

Suppressing a laugh, Jiang Mo gestured to the sacks. "Anyway, here are the clothes and bags. Take your pick."

After haggling and intense bargaining, the owner selected over forty pieces, and Jiang Mo gave her a 12% discount.

"Add me on WeChat. If you have more clothes, bags, or jewelry to sell, hit me up first."

"Deal. Long-term partnership."

With over a hundred thousand yuan in her pocket and the remaining clothes in tow, Jiang Mo returned to the Gu residence.

"Madam, I sold half the clothes. I’ll transfer the earnings to you," she announced cheerfully.

Su Yunjin was stunned by the amount on WeChat. "You got this much for them?"
