Wang Xia saw Su Yunjin and was just about to report something to her. As she approached, she saw Su Yunjin hurriedly running upstairs.
"Madam..."
Wang Xia was sure the other woman had seen her; they had just made eye contact.
Why did it feel like she had done something wrong?
Never mind, the matter wasn't urgent anyway. She could report it tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Gu Baotian calmly returned to his room.
Jiang Mo carried the clothes and bags home, but in the end, she still slung her old bag over her shoulder and went to work.
Gu Ye flew to another city. "I'll be staying longer this time, about a week. Could you take care of Maomao at home?"
Jiang Mo replied after finishing her work, "Alright, I understand."
Gu Ye added, "If it gets too late, just rest at Riverside Bay. Don't go back. Since I'm not there anyway, you don't have to worry about the big bad wolf eating Little White Rabbit."
Jiang Mo thought for a moment. "I'll see how it goes."
So, every day after her late shift, Jiang Mo would go to Gu Ye's place to take care of the kitten.
One day at work, Jiang Mo received a message from Pei Ting. "Finally finished with the busy period. Are you free? To thank you for helping take care of my cat, let me treat you to a meal."
"No need, Senior, you're too kind. Taking care of the kitten was no trouble at all," Jiang Mo replied.
After quite a while, Pei Ting sent another message. "I found out about you running into my mom at my place. If she said anything unpleasant, please don't take it to heart. I apologize on her behalf."
Jiang Mo looked at the words on her phone. The tone and manner of Wu Xia's words had indeed made her somewhat uncomfortable.
Before she could reply, another message came in.
"Have dinner together tonight? There's something important I'd like to discuss with you in person."
What matter has to be discussed face-to-face? Jiang Mo wondered to herself.
"Alright, see you tonight then."
Jiang Mo planned to finish the dinner early and then go back to feed Maomao.
She met Pei Ting at the mall as agreed, and he arrived holding a bouquet of roses.
"Flowers for you," Pei Ting said, handing the roses over.
Jiang Mo scratched her ear. Why is Senior Pei suddenly giving me flowers? What does this mean?
She had no choice but to accept them. "Thank you, Senior. We're old acquaintances, you didn't have to go to this trouble."
"I've wanted to give these to you for a while. I hope the flowers aren't too late," Pei Ting said. "Let's go in. I've reserved a table."
They had Western food for dinner. The restaurant had a nice ambiance. Jiang Mo ordered a steak and a salad and asked about Pei Ting's recent work.
"Pretty much done with the busy part. I won't need to travel so frequently from now on. How about you?"
"Me? I'm alright. I'm out and about two or three days a week, either meeting with clients or running to the courthouse."
Pei Ting asked, "Can you handle it?"
The waiter brought their food. Jiang Mo cut into her steak. "It's manageable for now. Attorney Li, who's mentoring me, is also very good. This steak tastes pretty good, you should try it."
"Mhm," Pei Ting also picked up his knife and fork. He glanced at Jiang Mo, who was eating happily. "About the last time you went to my place and met my mom..."
"Auntie came upstairs while I was feeding the cat, and we just chatted for a bit," Jiang Mo said. "Actually, she didn't say much. It's just that I could see Auntie is quite concerned about your marriage prospects."
"She said she's introduced you to several nice girls, but you never had time to meet them."
Pei Ting slowed his movements. "There's someone I like."
"Ah, who is it? Do I know her?" Jiang Mo ate a few pieces of meat and used the vegetable salad to cut the richness.
She looked up and found Pei Ting staring right at her. Her heart skipped a beat. Her eyes swept over the roses on the table. It couldn't be that cliché, could it?
