Eating Melons Until I Saw News of My Own Death

Chapter 91

"Beep—"

Twenty minutes passed, and the broadcast sound rang out.

"Why?" Xu Siyuan said suspiciously.

"Is my bargaining chip not enough? Why won't you come?"

"Do you not believe my words, or do you think I can't do anything to you?"

Xu Siyuan's voice turned gloomy: "Xu Junyue, I'm really angry now."

"Aunt, she doesn't care about your life or death at all."

"Ugh... ugh..."

Soft sobs could be heard. Xu Jingya was beyond saving now.

"Dammit, I should have known not to waste time. Aunt, don't be afraid, I'll make them all join you."

"Beep—"

The broadcast sound vanished, and Hake Island returned to silence.

By the shore, a yacht pulled in.

"Tong Yang, do we stop it?"

A woman in a black leather jacket leaned against the metal railing. The sea wind tousled her hair, which danced wildly across her face.

"Stop it? Why?"

Her eyelids lowered, she held a communication device, her fingers rapidly tapping the screen as if contacting someone.

"The time anchor can't die yet."

Tong Yang said, "Who said she would die?"

"That's true. Like Yan Qing, she has the ability to rewind time. Even if everyone else dies, she won't."

Tong Yang lifted her gaze. "That's not what I meant."

"Then what did you mean?" Armand Brad asked.

"I meant it literally."

"Stop being cryptic."

Tong Yang didn't speak further and tossed the communication device over.

Armand Brad caught it, looked at it, and frowned slightly. "You sent a message to headquarters? About Xu Siyuan's death?"

Tong Yang tucked her disheveled hair behind her ear and said calmly, "Xu Siyuan is undoubtedly going to die."

"How is that possible? She has the gene serum in her."

Someone said, "Yan Qing also had the gene serum. The Shadow World already knows how to kill us."

"Yan Qing isn't dead." Tong Yang's eyes were profound. "But, Xu Siyuan will die."

"Her skills aren't bad. The training soldiers in the Maynard villa are no match for her, let alone people from the Shadow World."

Armand Brad was silent for a moment, then said, "Miss Tang Li's skills are no worse than those of a training soldier."

"Her skills aren't bad," Tong Yang tapped her own temple and smiled faintly, "but her mind isn't up to par."

"That's the Shadow World's version of me and Maynard."

Ye Huai's expression turned slightly cold. "Don't mention that name again."

One of them asked, "What do we do now?"

Tong Yang said lazily, "Let's listen to Xu Siyuan's final lament."

Maynard Villa, 3:00 PM.

Everyone infected with the defective virus had their symptoms erupt.

"Mr. Maynard, when will the Z government personnel arrive at Hake Island?"

"Mr. Maynard, please tell them that no matter what they need to do, we will cooperate fully. Please, they must save us!"

"After the symptoms erupt, vines actually grow inside the body... It's too terrifying!"

"Please, you must save us! The Z government must save us!"

After the symptoms erupted, some people who hadn't been infected with the virus found their way to Maynard Villa.

Miss Aly took Maynard's place in calming the crowd.

"The antidote from the Z government is on its way. From what we understand, the time from symptom eruption to death is roughly twenty-four hours. The antidote will definitely arrive within that time."

"Mr. Maynard's symptoms have erupted, and he is currently resting."

"Miss Aly, are you alright? You also received the gene serum!"

"That's right, Miss Aly, is your body okay?"

Miss Aly said, "I am the pathogen carrier. The symptoms will only erupt after I die."

"How can this be..."

"The First World is too despicable!"

"We must never trust the First World again!"

Aly glanced at the time and said, "Your bodies will also be affected. Please return and rest properly."

"Miss Aly, I have a question..."

"The voice on the broadcast, and that Xu Junyue she mentioned... What's going on?"

"Is the First World still going to attack us?"

"Who exactly is Xu Junyue?"

Aly said, "Please don't worry. That's just a tactic by the First World to make us panic. Please return to your respective residences. Waiting for the joint rescue from Z and M to reach Hake Island is enough."

"We understand, Miss Aly!"

"Miss Aly, please, you and Mr. Maynard must take care of yourselves!"

"Please return now."

The guests crowding the villa entrance gradually left.

Aly didn't go back immediately. She looked at the long road outside the gate and stood waiting for a few minutes.

Footsteps, sometimes near, sometimes far, sounded beside her, as if within reach, yet also as if dozens of meters away, impossible to pinpoint.

Aly walked to the door, closed the wide-open gate, then turned to go back inside.

However, the moment she turned around, a figure appeared right in front of her.

A woman with brown pupils looked at her leisurely.

"Where is Xu Junyue?" the woman asked.

Aly's expression remained placid. She bowed and said, "Your Excellency, this is the Maynard Villa. Entry is forbidden without an invitation. Please leave."

Xu Siyuan looked into her eyes and suddenly smiled. "Your eyes are quite lovely. Before I find Xu Junyue, I'll use yours for now."

Aly's face didn't change. Still bowing, she repeated, "Your Excellency, please leave..."

"Pfft—"

Before she could finish, a line of blood cut through the air.

Xu Siyuan's figure vanished for an instant, then immediately returned to her original spot, holding a severed head in her hand, stained red with blood.

Warm blood splattered onto her face. Her pink tongue licked up a drop.

"Too much talk."

Xu Siyuan sneered, dug out her own eyes, her fingers covered in blood, and was about to gouge out Aly's eyes when a "whoosh" sound came from the distance, like a sharp weapon cutting through the air.

The eyeballs Xu Siyuan had dug out fell to the ground. With no time to replace them with Aly's eyes, her body swiftly moved, dodging the incoming projectile.

"Who?"

"No way? She could still dodge that?"

"Continue."

"Roger."

Long-range projectiles frequently shot towards her. Xu Siyuan's eyes were tightly closed, two trails of blood flowing from her eye sockets. Her body leaped lightly across the ground, easily avoiding the weapons.

"Ye Huai!"

"Got it."

"Boom!"

Suddenly, a loud explosion sounded.

Aly's head exploded. Smoke and flames spread, and a figure stood tall at the explosion's epicenter.

"Still not down?"

"She really is a freak! I thought the bomb would knock her out temporarily."

Tong Yang said, "Her eyeballs are already gone. She can't regenerate them directly. Aly's eyes can't be restored in a short time either. She can't find a replacement."

Xu Junyue rubbed her hands together eagerly. "So that means she can't see anything for now, right?"

"Hahaha..."

"Hahaha..."

As the smoke gradually cleared, Xu Siyuan threw her head back and laughed, revealing her body bearing the brunt of the explosion's impact.

The left side of her body was a mangled mess of flesh and blood, white bone starkly visible. Blood cascaded like a waterfall, carrying bits of tissue as it fell, yet her legs remained stubbornly planted on the ground.

"Xu Junyue, how can you be so stupid? Did you really think that could kill me?"

Xu Siyuan lowered her head. The left side of her face was unrecognizable, her upper and lower jawbones gaping open, teeth missing.

"Won't know until we try... ugh!"

Xu Junyue had meant to retort, but the moment she gave away her position, a figure appeared before her almost in the blink of an eye. Five fingers clamped around her neck like a vice, forcefully lifting her body into the air.

"I've caught you. What now?"

Xu Siyuan lifted her head. The injuries on her body rapidly healed, the scattered tissue around her spontaneously moving back towards her.

In mere moments, her body was restored to its original state.

Suffocation turned Xu Junyue's face crimson, veins bulging on her forehead. She grabbed Xu Siyuan's hand, straining to force out a smile as she cursed, "Idiot, you fell for it..."

"Whoosh—"

Xu Siyuan was momentarily stunned as a strange sensation suddenly came from her ankle, tightly bound by a sturdy rope. The four ends extending from the rope were all pulled taut. The sudden loss of balance made her body fall backward, and she instinctively let go.

Xu Junyue landed from mid-air and swiftly pounced, pinning her body down.

Chu Shiyu from World A cried out in alarm, "We got her!"

Tong Yang warned, "Don't let your guard down."

As soon as the words left her mouth, two abrupt sounds of snapping bone rang out.

"Ah!" Xu Junyue screamed in agony.

Xu Siyuan grabbed her shoulders, her fingers suddenly exerting force, actually crushing and snapping Xu Junyue's shoulder blades alive!

Cold sweat broke out from the pain, but Xu Junyue had no time to hesitate. Since they were already broken anyway, she simply twisted her body and kicked Xu Siyuan squarely in the chest, managing to break free.

"Hahaha..." Xu Siyuan let out a loud laugh.

"Fun, this is too much fun." She sat up, one leg crossed, the other bent with the knee raised.

Tong Yang and the other three pulled the rope from different directions, yet Xu Siyuan remained utterly immovable, as if completely unaffected.

"You think just because I can't see, you can kill me?" Xu Siyuan mocked.

She grabbed the rope around her ankle and yanked it back with force. An intense resistance traveled through the rope to the hands of Tong Yang and the others.

"This thing's strength is insane, we can't pull her at all!"

"What do we do?"

"Run!"

Xu Junyue had long since covered her shoulder and fled. Seeing they couldn't control her by working together, the others simply let go of the rope simultaneously and ran towards the villa.

The trained soldiers, having received instructions in advance, swarmed towards Xu Siyuan in unison.

The five returned indoors, placing Aly's head and body together, where the cells automatically began to heal.

After all the commotion, everyone was drenched in sweat.

Dozens of trained soldiers surrounded Xu Siyuan. Her eyes were tightly shut as she slowly stood up from the ground. Her slender figure amidst the crowd appeared exceptionally frail.

The next moment, she weaved through the trained soldiers. Her speed was so fast the naked eye could barely keep up. These very soldiers, who had once pushed Tong Yang and Xu Junyue into a fierce battle, were now completely unable to match her pace!

"So monstrous, is she even human?" Xu Junyue muttered.

Everyone's expressions turned grave at the sight.

"How are you?" Tong Yang walked over to her and asked.

Xu Junyue shook her head. "A few broken bones. No danger to my life."

"That's good."

Tong Yang turned her gaze back outside. The trained soldiers were having their hearts cleanly ripped out, falling one after another.

As they had all participated in the 'Forerunner' selection, none had been injected with the inferior gene serum.

Anyone who loses their heart will die, including the trained soldiers.

Xu Siyuan looked as if she had been soaked in blood, her body covered in gore and human tissue.

The trained soldiers' existence only served to briefly hinder her steps; they couldn't harm her in the slightest.

Chu Shiyu from World A said, trembling with fear, "I told you, we're no match for her at all. She's one of the most powerful military commanders in the Main World. We can't even beat the trained soldiers!"

Tong Yang asked, "What about you? What's your rank?"

Chu Shiyu from World A said, "I was eliminated in the third round of the 'Forerunner' selection. I received the inferior gene serum and was sent to guard various high-ranking individuals in the upper levels."

Tong Yang said, "Xu Junyue is similar to you, third-round strength. He Jingjing and I are a bit below that."

"How many rounds are there in the selection?"

"Six. The trained soldiers are those eliminated in the sixth round."

"And the commanders?"

"The commanders are the most powerful humans in the Main World."

Tong Yang nodded. "I see."

Chu Shiyu from World A said, on the verge of tears, "Let's stop this. Dr. Wu tasked me with bringing you all back safely. How will I explain if you die?!"

"We can't stop." Tong Yang stated firmly. "Precisely because she is one of the most powerful humans in the parallel world, we cannot stop. We must kill her."

"How?! Look! Dozens of selected soldiers are all dead!"

Tang Li blew dust from under her fingernails and said, "As the saying goes, no matter how skilled you are, you're still afraid of a kitchen knife."

"Rather than slinking back in defeat, we should leave the parallel world with something to remember. The real world isn't a plaything in their palms."

On the grass, blood flowed freely, corpses littered the ground.

Xu Siyuan stood amidst the corpses, drenched in blood, her chest heaving violently as she gasped for air.

Moving at such high speed consumed immense energy. That's why she found it such a bother.

It had been a long time since she'd felt this tired.

Tong Yang raised a bow and shot an arrow towards Xu Siyuan.

Xu Siyuan failed to dodge in time, and it struck her squarely in the chest.

Yet she seemed not to care. She casually grabbed a corpse, intending to find a new pair of eyes.

But as she felt the corpse's face, she discovered the eyeballs had already been gouged out.

"Whoosh!"

"Whoosh!"

"Whoosh!"

Several arrows flew towards her, striking her body one after another.

The impact forced her back half a step.

She lifted her blood-drenched face towards the direction of the villa, her lips pressed into a tight line, her expression dark.

"I'm going to turn you all into human pigs."

Tong Yang nocked another arrow on the bowstring, her voice calm and unruffled. "If you can."

"Whoosh—"

The arrow pierced through the air, embedding itself right between Xu Siyuan's eyebrows.

A trickle of blood slid down from the wound. Xu Siyuan gave a muffled laugh, pulled the arrows from her body, wiped the blood from her face, and then her figure suddenly vanished from the spot. She moved so fast she was like a blur, rapidly closing in on the group.

"She's even faster than before!"

"Is she human?"

Even Tong Yang couldn't help but feel a shock inwardly. After dealing with so many trained soldiers, Xu Siyuan's speed had actually increased. In a one-on-one, head-on confrontation, all of them combined would stand no chance against her.

"Watch out!"

Xu Siyuan's speed was simply too fast; a normal person couldn't possibly keep up. Forget keeping up, even reacting in time was difficult.

Even though Tong Yang and the other four had fled before she got close, she caught up to them almost instantly.

Perhaps driven by extreme hatred, Xu Siyuan actually stopped chasing Xu Junyue and headed straight for Tong Yang.

"This was all your idea, right?" Xu Siyuan sneered. "I've disliked you for a long time. You're annoying, no matter which world's version of you!"

Tong Yang sensed someone approaching from behind, the gust of wind they stirred up stinging her cheeks. She tried to dodge, but it was too late. Xu Siyuan was already right behind her.

"Tong Yang!"

"Look out!"

"Thud—"

The sound of a sharp object piercing flesh suddenly came from behind. Tong Yang turned her head to see Tang Li, who had somehow caught up, her long leg extended mid-air, the heel of her high-heeled shoe embedded in Xu Siyuan's shoulder, lodged in her shoulder blade.

At that moment, Xu Siyuan's hand was only a few centimeters from Tong Yang's back. If Tang Li hadn't blocked this strike for her, Tong Yang would have surely met the same fate as the trainee soldier—death by having her heart ripped out.

Tong Yang didn't waste this rare opportunity. Shaking a dagger from her sleeve, she plunged it into Xu Siyuan's throat.

Blood mixed with saliva dripped onto Tong Yang's hand. Enraged, Xu Siyuan grabbed Tang Li's ankle with one hand and Tong Yang's hand with the other, forcefully hurling them away.

Tong Yang crashed heavily onto the ground, while Tang Li spun twice in mid-air and landed steadily on her feet.

He Jingjing tried to attack from behind but was kicked flying by Xu Siyuan.

Chu Shiyu from World A attempted to get close, but as soon as she reached her side, Xu Siyuan's hand shot out and ripped her heart out.

"Damn it..."

She stumbled backward, clutching her chest. "This won't work. I'm no match for her."

And this was while Xu Siyuan was blind.

The unhealed wound on Tong Yang's back split open from the impact. Gritting her teeth, she stood up, coughing up a mouthful of blood.

Xu Siyuan was too strong, operating on a completely different level than them.

Xu Siyuan pulled the dagger from her throat and casually threw it in a random direction.

Tang Li, light on her feet, leaped up gracefully, dodging the dagger.

Xu Siyuan didn't immediately attack again. She turned towards Tang Li and asked, "You can keep up with my speed?"

Tang Li crossed her arms and smiled. "No, I can't."

"Then how were you able to stop me?"

Tang Li said, "I just predicted your actions in advance, that's all."

Xu Siyuan lowered her head, muttering, "Predicted my actions?"

After this round of fighting, everyone except Tang Li was injured.

"Sister!" Xu Junyue suddenly called out.

Xu Siyuan's expression froze for a moment before she erupted in fury. "Shut up! Don't call me that! It's disgusting!"

"Tong Yang!" Tang Li warned.

Tong Yang scrambled up on all fours and lunged at Xu Siyuan, grabbing her neck and slamming her to the ground.

He Jingjing and Chu Shiyu from World A reacted simultaneously, rushing forward to pin Xu Siyuan's hands down. They pulled out knives hidden in their clothes and nailed her hands to the floor.

Tang Li flipped open her shawl, took out silver needles, and drove them into Xu Siyuan's temples.

Xu Siyuan looked dazed, as if she hadn't yet processed what had happened.

Her brain nerves, affected by the silver needles, became somewhat sluggish.

Xu Junyue, clutching her shoulder, limped over to her. "Is she under control?"

Xu Siyuan suddenly grew quiet. Her eyeless sockets could no longer open. Her face covered in blood, her expression became neutral, and her whole demeanor turned eerily calm.

Tong Yang had used all her strength. Sensing no movement from the person beneath her, she looked up.

"Whoosh—"

The silver needles embedded in Xu Siyuan's temples shot past Tong Yang's eyes with a "zing," embedding themselves in the tile floor.

Xu Siyuan simply yanked her nailed hands free from the ground, the skin tearing open from the back of her hands down to the base of her fingers. Tang Li was the first to react, grabbing Tong Yang and He Jingjing, kicking Chu Shiyu from World A aside, and leaping back several steps.

Tang Li's expression was grave as she shook her head. "It's no use. We can't control her."

"To the second floor!"

Tong Yang and the other four immediately ran for the stairs. Xu Siyuan sat up from the floor, tilting her head towards the direction they had fled.

She slowly got to her feet, picked up the dagger from the ground, and, unlike before, began to pursue them at a measured pace.

Xu Siyuan circled around the stairs and walked up to the second floor.

Without her eyes, she could only rely on her hearing.

The second floor was eerily quiet, devoid of any footsteps. If one listened carefully, faint breathing could still be discerned.

Sunlight streamed through the corridor, illuminating the floorboards. Dust motes floated in the air, carrying a musty, aged smell.

Xu Siyuan entered the corridor, tentatively moving forward.

The doors on either side of the hallway were open, utterly still.

At the end of the corridor, part of the wall had been dismantled.

Many glass bottles rolled on the floor. Xu Siyuan kicked one, sending it flying to smash against the wall, glass fragments scattering everywhere.

"Xu Junyue, I'll give you one more chance. Give me your life, and I'll let them go."

"You can keep hiding. I can also follow you back to the Shadow World. By then, more than just you will die."

A light, slow set of footsteps sounded from ahead.

Xu Junyue, leaning against the wall for support, her face deathly pale, gasped for breath and said, "Sister, really?"

Xu Siyuan tilted the blade in her hand. "Really. The only one I want to kill is you. Once you're dead, I'll let them leave immediately."

"Cough..." Xu Junyue stifled a cough. "I don't understand. Why do you want to kill me?"

"Why?" Xu Siyuan frowned. "There is no 'why.'"

Xu Junyue said, "I don't know if what you and Auntie said is true, but that wasn't my fault, nor was it Auntie's or Old Xu's fault. Shouldn't the real culprits be Mom and Uncle?"

Xu Siyuan mocked, "Whose fault?"

"Whose fault it was stopped mattering long ago. I simply want you dead. I want everyone dead."

Xu Junyue took a deep breath. "Alright then. Kill me and let them go."

"You should have realized this much earlier. Why waste all this time?"

Xu Junyue said, "I have one last question. Why did Mom and Uncle do this to us?"

Xu Siyuan's advancing footsteps halted, her face turning dark.

"Because you saw the deal she made with Uncle."

Xu Junyue was stunned. "What deal?"

"A drug deal." Xu Siyuan walked up to her but didn't strike immediately.

"You were young then, didn't understand anything. You took the items from the deal that Mom had hidden in the bedroom and gave them to me." Xu Siyuan let out a cold laugh. "I told Xu Zeming. He arranged for Auntie to deliberately gather information, locate the drug den, and wipe them out in one go. What happened next isn't hard to guess, is it?"

"At that time, Mom and Uncle were already addicted."

"So you blame me for seeing it?" Xu Junyue asked.

"No." Xu Siyuan raised her head, a smile appearing. "I've said it many times. What I resent is why I was the one who lost both eyes, and not you."

"Don't you think that's unfair?"

Xu Siyuan pressed her hand on Xu Junyue's shoulder and said, "At the very least, you should end up the same as me. Do you understand?"

Xu Junyue shook her head honestly. "I don't understand."

"It's fine. You'll understand once you're dead."

"I don't want to die," Xu Junyue said.

Suddenly, Xu Junyue grabbed Xu Siyuan and jumped with her through the broken wall of the corridor, heading straight for the iron barrel filled with sulfuric acid below.

The rope suspended in mid-air went taut, one end tied around Xu Junyue's waist.

"Ugh!" Xu Junyue cried out in pain.

Xu Siyuan pressed down on her shattered shoulder blade, their bodies dangling together in the air.

Xu Siyuan fumbled for the rope on her body, a twisted smile forming on her lips. "I'm guessing that's sulfuric acid down there?"

"I can go down, but you have to come with me. That's only fair."

The pain in her shoulder made it almost impossible for Xu Junyue to speak, let alone find the strength to push her away.

Xu Siyuan pressed a dagger against the rope, trying to cut it.

Xu Siyuan hung onto her, severing the rope while saying, "I can die, but you have to die with me."

Cold sweat dripped down Xu Junyue's face. "Fine, we'll die together then. Just stop pressing on my damn shoulder..."

"Good. Then let's die together."

The rope tied to Xu Junyue, bearing the weight of both of them, was severed, and their bodies plummeted downward.

There was a deep pit on the ground, with the iron barrel of sulfuric acid inside it.

As the two bodies fell, Tong Yang, crouching outside the first-floor corridor window, was poised to strike. Seizing the moment, she leaped into the air, caught the falling Xu Junyue, and used the momentum to roll with her onto a grassy patch nearby.

Xu Siyuan reached out in stunned disbelief, trying to grab Xu Junyue, but it was too late.

"You..."

"SPLASH—"

"THUD—"

Two sounds echoed simultaneously.

Tong Yang held Xu Junyue as they rolled onto the grass, while Xu Siyuan fell into the deep pit.

"You lied to me!"

"Xu Junyue... you lied to me..."

Xu Siyuan fell into the concentrated sulfuric acid. The iron barrel was deep; she struggled inside but couldn't climb out, her flesh gradually corroding.

"Ah!"

"AH!!"

"Xu Junyue!"

"I hope you die a horrible death!"

Tong Yang got up to check on Xu Junyue, who had passed out from the pain.

Just then, Ye Huai's voice came through the walkie-talkie: "The target clearance parameters have been modified."

Tong Yang let out a heavy sigh of relief and collapsed wearily onto the grass.

The concentrated sulfuric acid would corrode Xu Siyuan's body completely within minutes. The rate of bodily repair couldn't keep up with the speed of the corrosion. As long as she remained immersed in the sulfuric acid, she would be stuck in a perpetual state of death.

"...We succeeded."

"Congratulations to the player on successfully clearing the level."

"Congratulations to the player on successfully clearing the level."

"Congratulations to the player on successfully clearing the level."

A mechanical voice echoed from the broadcast.

Tong Yang closed her eyes and relaxed her body.

Faintly, she heard the blast of a ship's horn.

Slowly opening her eyes, she saw a helicopter circling high above.

A soldier in uniform aboard the aircraft looked down and opened his communicator.

"Tong Yang located. Requesting extraction."

"Tong Yang located. Requesting extraction."

Meanwhile, on the coast of a parallel world.

"She's dead," Ye Huai said.

"Yeah," Tong Yang replied absentmindedly.

"What's next?"

Tong Yang shook her communication device. "New mission just came in."

"Eradicate the Maynard family."
