Of course, she needed to coordinate with Chi Heng in advance about this matter.
So, on the first day back at work after her break, Jiang Si took the opportunity to visit the embassy district under the pretext of discussing some design details with Chi Heng.
Chi Heng didn’t seem the least bit surprised by her arrival.
By the time Jiang Si got there, he had already brewed the tea.
“Try this—it's this year’s new tea,” Chi Heng said, gesturing for her to sit down.
Jiang Si complied without hesitation, taking the seat opposite him. She had to admit, Chi Heng’s tea-making skills were quite impressive.
Just watching him was a pleasure in itself.
“Good tea,” Jiang Si remarked, glancing around the room.
Every move Chi Heng made was being closely watched by someone.
In the embassy district, of course, there were always eyes everywhere.
Chi Heng didn’t deny it.
He knew exactly who the watchers were.
After all, he hadn’t been idly stationed at the embassy these past few years.
But times were different now.
Chi Heng picked up the teapot and filled her cup to the brim.
Then he said, “You can say whatever you want; no one will come in to disturb us.”
After a pause, he added, “I’m currently ordered to make contact with you. Officially, they won’t dare to go too far—at least not so blatantly as to eavesdrop on this office.”
Jiang Si nodded, indicating she understood.
But she also knew that staying too long wasn’t a good idea—it would arouse suspicion.
So she got straight to business.
Jiang Si’s professionalism was beyond doubt.
Once she had said most of what she needed, she handed over the prepared blueprints.
“These are the drafts. You can discuss them, and if there are other requirements, we can communicate again.”
In fact, Chi Heng had already been looking through the design proposal while she was speaking.
He had to admit, she was truly talented in design.
Just this initial draft already met all the embassy’s requirements.
But privately, he wanted to use this opportunity to spend more time with her.
He nodded, “Good. We’ll discuss this as soon as possible and notify you immediately once there’s a result.”
Jiang Si didn’t think much of it. After finishing the business talk, she briefly shared her findings.
“The current clues point to three people, but I’m not sure exactly who it is.”
Chi Heng had originally planned to use his own channels to investigate but hadn’t expected her to be so quick.
“Are you trying to test those three?” he asked.
Jiang Si hadn’t expected him to guess her intention in just a few words.
But she didn’t deny it.
“Rather than passively waiting for them to make a move, I’d rather take the initiative to test the waters,” she said.
Chi Heng pondered for a moment. “It’s possible, but you have to be very careful. Someone who’s managed to stay hidden in the Ministry of Construction for so long is definitely not a simple character.”
Jiang Si nodded, fully aware of the gravity of the situation.
She would never recklessly probe.
Just as she was about to say more, a woman’s voice suddenly came from the doorway.
“What are you standing out there for?”
There was a moment of hesitation from the man outside the door.
His hesitation instantly changed Chris’s expression.
“Who’s inside?” she demanded.
As she spoke, she made a move to open the door.
“Sorry, Mr. Chi is currently receiving a visitor. He said no one is to disturb him!”
Chris wore a look that clearly said, "What are you talking about? Move aside! Don’t make me say it twice."
But before she could finish, the door swung open.
It was Chi Heng who entered.
Yet the first thing Chris saw was Jiang Si sitting on the sofa.
She hadn’t forgotten that it was this wicked woman who had made her lose face in front of ambassadors from various countries last time.
Because of that, she had become the laughingstock of the entire embassy district.
She hadn’t even had the chance to confront her, and here Jiang Si was, boldly showing up at Chi Heng’s place!
Thinking this, Chris’s expression darkened. "What’s she doing here?"
“Are you asking me?” Jiang Si turned her head slightly.
Her tone was as calm as ever, but the question she posed made Chris’s face change once again.
“Miss Chris, when you ask that, are you speaking for yourself, or on behalf of the Embassy of Gaul?”
Chris had already stumbled on this question last time. This time, no matter what, she couldn’t be fooled by this woman again.
Taking a deep breath, Chris said, “Of course, I’m representing the embassy!”
“Oh.”
Jiang Si responded lightly, “Then this doesn’t concern you. The person coordinating with me is Assistant Chi. If you want to replace the liaison, please send an official letter to notify us.”
With that, she didn’t care how Chris would react.
After finishing the tea in her cup, Jiang Si stood up and turned to Chi Heng.
“I have other matters to attend to. I’ll take my leave.”
Chi Heng knew Chris’s temper. Letting Jiang Si stay would only cause unnecessary trouble for her.
“Alright, goodbye.”
After watching Jiang Si leave downstairs, Chi Heng placed the design proposal on the desk into the office safe.
Only then did he turn to Chris with a businesslike attitude. “Did you come here for something?”
“You…” Chris was so upset by his cold and distant demeanor that her eyes immediately welled up with tears.
Of course, she had something to say!
Today was her birthday. She had specially booked a romantic lunch at a restaurant in the embassy district.
Just the two of them.
She had even planned to confess her feelings to Chi Heng today.
Whether or not he remembered her birthday, Chris wasn’t worried at all.
After all, during their university years, she had invited him every single year.
But judging by Chi Heng’s reaction, he clearly didn’t remember.
It didn’t matter. If he didn’t remember, she would just have to say it herself.
But as she spoke, her voice involuntarily carried a hint of grievance. “Today… is my birthday.”
Hearing this, Chi Heng paused.
He wasn’t some oblivious bookworm who lacked social skills, but at this moment, all he could say was one sentence.
“Chris, happy birthday.”
“Is that all?”
Chris pressed her lips together, full of hope. “I booked a table at the restaurant…”
“Sorry.” Chi Heng cut her off before she could continue. “I’m very busy today. I don’t have time to go out for a meal.”
“Is it because of Miss Jiang?”
Chris wasn’t willing to give up and asked again, “Do you like her?”
“Chris.” Chi Heng’s tone remained as distant as before.
But the words that followed clearly carried a warning.
“You’ve already met her husband last time…”
"So what if she has a husband? Whether you like her or not is a completely different matter."
Chris had been wanting to ask that for a long time.
But she never expected that, just half an hour later, she would be asking the very person involved face to face.
At that time, Jiang Si did have something to attend to, but more than anything, she simply didn’t want to get involved in their affairs.
So, she found an excuse to leave early.
Now, she was conducting a site survey in front of the dormitory building in the embassy district.
Unexpectedly, she looked up and saw Chris rushing out from the office building.
Chris hadn’t expected to run into her here either.
