Dating the Boss is a Bad Idea

Chapter 6

That morning after Zhou Peelskin had delivered breakfast to Qian Wei, Qian Wei slept in again. As she lay in bed in the dormitory room, it had been a long, long time since she was able to sleep in like this until she naturally woke up. The 19-year-old's new day had arrived again, and Qian Wei took a deep breath. She had never realized before that sleeping in was such a luxurious blessing.

"Some everyday blessings, although they are always overlooked, you only realize how precious they are after you lose them. Just like right now, curled up under the covers—every minute and every second, I need to cherish this well."

"You're the only one who can make sleeping in sound so righteous and justified," Liu Shi Yun said disdainfully. "Isn't that right, Little Meng? We can't be like Qian Wei. We need to sleep early and get up early to grow up healthy!"

"Little Meng" was the cactus owned by Liu Shi Yun. She didn't know where she had heard the theory that plants also understand human nature. If you chat with plants and cultivate feelings with them all the time, the plants will grow better. They may even release a kind of bio-magnetic field that makes the caretaker more beautiful.

Qian Wei glanced at the tender expression in Liu Shi Yun's eyes as she looked at the cactus. She had no doubt that if it wasn't for the cactus's thorns, Liu Shi Yun would have affectionately stroked "Little Meng" like a doting mother long ago.

"What time is it?"

Liu Shi Yun looked at her phone, "Ten o'clock."

Qian Wei pumped herself up and climbed out of bed, "I'm going to my elective class."

Liu Shi Yun looked at her in shock, "Are you okay? You actually said you're going to class?"

During the first semester of sophomore year, Qian Wei had chosen a college finance elective. She chose this class after asking seniors and finding out the teacher, Professor Zhang, never took attendance and you could safely skip his class. The final exam was not difficult enough to fail either.

Qian Wei didn't have time to explain her change, nor could she. She checked the time and hurriedly ran downstairs to the campus supermarket. She bought several big bags of snacks, deliberately choosing items that were junk food but also quite filling. She stuffed her bag full before running to the classroom.

She clearly remembered that Li Chongwen had also taken this college finance elective.

When she arrived at the classroom panting, class hadn't started yet fortunately. Qian Wei looked left and right until she finally found Li Chongwen. He was sitting in the third row, quietly reading a book with his handsome side profile. Li Chongwen was good-looking with an upright figure. As expected, he had attracted quite a few female gazes, though most of those gazes had wandered away in search of new crushes before long, lacking in determination.

Qian Wei took a look at the entrance and saw Lu Xun. She didn't know he had also chosen this elective since she only cared about skipping class in her previous life.

Lu Xun walked into the classroom with his beautiful face, his posture upright and graceful. Li Chongwen smiled and greeted him. Finally, Lu Xun's face also showed a hint of smile. He sat down on Li Chongwen's right side, leaving only the seat to Li Chongwen's left empty now.

Qian Wei worked up her courage and stubbornly sat down in that empty seat to the left. She wasn't shy, purely because the third row was commonly recognized as the danger zone. Professor Zhang especially liked to call on students sitting in the third row to answer questions...And when Professor Zhang lectured passionately, he would spit everywhere. The third row was the prime "spray zone"...

Qian Wei secretly glanced at Lu Xun, then looked again at Li Chongwen. She had to admit, although Li Chongwen's features weren't as exquisitely refined as Lu Xun's, which were difficult for ordinary people to achieve, he was still quite eye-catching at the law school of A University. Moreover, unlike Lu Xun who was cold and aloof like a flower on a high peak, Li Chongwen was modest with a gentle temperament. He spoke and acted gently and politely, giving off the feeling of a warm, gentle boy next door. Qian Wei actually felt quite indignant for Li Chongwen. Clearly his personality was better than Lu Xun's by tens of millions times, yet it was Lu Xun who attracted more popularity and feminine admiration. Contemporary female university students probably all had a bit of Stockholm syndrome.

With his beautiful face, Lu Xun walked into the classroom unperturbed, his posture upright and graceful. Li Chongwen smiled at him in greeting. Finally, Lu Xun's face also relaxed into a slight smile. He sat down on Li Chongwen's right side, leaving only the seat to Li Chongwen's left empty now.

Qian Wei summoned her courage and stubbornly sat down in that vacant seat to the left. She wasn't shy, purely because the third row was commonly recognized as the danger zone. Professor Zhang especially liked calling on students sitting in the third row to answer questions...And when lecturing passionately, Professor Zhang's spit flew precisely onto the first three rows. The third row was the prime "splash zone"...

Qian Wei looked at the healthy, ruddy-complexioned Li Chongwen sitting quietly beside her, and her heart swelled with sour emotions. In her previous life, she and Li Chongwen were not actually close. After graduation, Li Chongwen had chosen to become a judge at a court. The only interaction Qian Wei had with him after beginning his career came from a court hearing. Qian Wei was cross-examining for her client hospital in a medical dispute. She happened to go to the court where Li Chongwen worked. But at the court entrance, she was intercepted by the medical troublemaker team hired by the opposing party. They acted as if they wanted to beat up Qian Wei when Li Chongwen, who was passing by, protected her and even suffered blows while shielding Qian Wei. After that, the next news she heard was that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Only then did Qian Wei learn about Li Chongwen's family circumstances. He came from an impoverished mountain village. Although he had government financial aid for studying, his mother was paralyzed long-term, and his father was an alcoholic gambler. He also had a younger sister still in school. Li Chongwen had no choice but to work hard at part-time jobs to support his entire family. In order to save money, he had endured hunger and starved since starting university, accumulating harm over time until he developed stomach cancer at a young age.

Li Chongwen was the kind of male student with a very strong sense of pride. During his university years, he supported himself through his own labor and didn't want others to know to solicit donations for him. Of course Qian Wei couldn't directly give Li Chongwen money either. She racked her brains and only came up with this tactic of using snacks. She could hand things to Li Chongwen very naturally this way, and he wouldn't reject it. Living life again, besides currying favor early with her future boss, she also hoped to change Li Chongwen's fate. He was a good person and shouldn't have fallen ill so young.

Today, she had successfully stuffed food to Li Chongwen, and Qian Wei felt completely relieved. However, she was happy too soon. Not long after class started, she, sitting in the dangerous third row and lost in thought, was called on by Professor Zhang to answer a question.

"Classmate, please tell us, if you were in this situation, how would you manage your finances?"

Qian Wei had no choice but to stand up. She actually had a lot of qualifications to speak on this topic: "If it were me, I would work hard at part-time jobs without impacting my studies, and use the money earned to buy property. Even if I didn't have enough money, I would borrow money to buy. I would buy seven or eight properties if possible."

Professor Zhang pushed up his glasses, "Why do you need to buy so many, seven or eight properties?"

"Because I believe housing prices now averaging 4,000 RMB per square meter will rise to 40,000 RMB per square meter in seven or eight years," Qian Wei coughed. "Prices will continue depreciating. Restaurants where you can dine now for 50 RMB per person will become 200-300 RMB per person in the future."

Not just Professor Zhang, even the other students couldn't help laughing. To them, what Qian Wei said sounded simply fantastical.

"Classmate, although your predictions are quite bold, I have to say, they are still quite far from reality. And your proposed way of managing finances through buying a lot of properties sounds like an amateur with no financial knowledge or concepts. This is why everyone needs to take my class," Professor Zhang said proudly, spitting precisely onto the first three rows. "In this class, I will methodically correct misconceptions about finances like the student just now. I believe real estate investing will trap your capital. The trend and opportunities in future finance and investing will still be in the stock market..."

Qian Wei grumbled in her heart, I'll wait for you all to remember this moment years later and regret your disbelief!

Somehow, she drifted through the tedious class. When it finally ended, Qian Wei picked up her bag, ready to leave, but then stopped. She said earnestly to Li Chongwen beside her, "Li Chongwen, remember this. The instant you start making money in the future, you must buy property first, understand? You absolutely must remember! Even if you don't believe housing prices will rise so dramatically in the future, you're a man who needs to prepare a marital home early to get married! So you must buy as soon as possible!"

Li Chongwen was still stunned and hadn't reacted yet when Lu Xun beside him lazily glanced at Qian Wei. Qian Wei didn't care about his reaction either. She just waved at him and slipped away since she was also heading to the library.

When studying at school, she often heard parents and teachers nag, "You must study hard at school. Otherwise when you graduate and enter society, you'll definitely regret it and feel if you had worked harder and learned more in college, it would have been better."

But after Qian Wei graduated from university, she never thought this way even once. On the contrary, she always regretted that she should have lived more freely in school and done whatever she wanted. Memorizing so many boring things was truly a waste of life.

If she used this second chance at life for serious studying, it would be a waste of her life!

Qian Wei went to the library not to study, but to apply for a job. She remembered at the start of each school year in September, the school library would have some work-study positions open. In this new life, she wanted to work hard and get rich, do part-time jobs to buy property, and live a happy future life collecting rental income while lying around.

On her way to the library, Qian Wei noticed Lu Xun walking in the same direction. She had to make an effort to foster good relations with her future boss after all. Thinking of the tens of millions worth of cases Lu Xun would take on in the future, Qian Wei felt buttering up her future boss was an urgent matter. There was no opportunity? Then she would create opportunities! Step one: get familiar with future boss first!

Lu Xun took large strides. Qian Wei jogged to catch up to him finally.

"Lu Xun, nice weather today, huh?"

Lu Xun walked on unperturbed, not to mention responding, he didn't even glance at Qian Wei...

But was Qian Wei so easily defeated? She continued seamlessly: "Are you going to the library to study?"

Lu Xun still met her attempts with silence...

"The cafeteria recently introduced an incredibly delicious dish called gun-shaped chicken legs. They're shaped and sized like a gun. Have you tried them? Should I buy some for you?"

"Yesterday on the school forum, you were voted the most handsome campus heartthrob, surpassing the male students nominated from the Academy of Arts across town who were discovered by talent agencies and signed as future celebrity trainees. You beat them by a wide margin of several hundred votes even though they're considered future stars!"

But no matter what conversation topics Qian Wei brought up, Lu Xun was determined to ignore her.

"Lu Xun! Your shoelace is untied!"

Lu Xun finally paused for a moment, subconsciously glancing at his own shoes. Naturally, the laces were neatly tied. Realizing he had fallen for it again, Lu Xun finally gave Qian Wei a bit of a response, coldly glaring at him.

"Boring."

"Then let's talk about something interesting."

"No time."

Qian Wei brought up a few more topics, but the aloof beauty before him was clearly unmoved.

"Lu Xun, there's dog poop on the road ahead!!"

Having learned from the shoelace incident, this time Lu Xun maintained his usual indifference, and then...really stepped in dog poop...

"Qian Wei!" Looking at the yellow-brown smears on his shoe, Lu Xun could no longer remain aloof. His voice was full of barely suppressed anger.

"Didn't I warn you already?" Qian Wei was very innocent. "I said there was dog poop ahead."
