Nangong Yu had already slapped on a defensive talisman.
Cursing was one thing, but the Purple Sun Sect’s Boss was utterly inhuman. There was no way she was going to stand there and take a hit naked.
After all, once a Boss got insulted, it would definitely go berserk. So the instant she started cursing, Nangong Yu applied a defensive talisman capable of blocking a single strike from Taotie.
A stream of light exploded above her head, scattering to both sides of the Azure Cloud Stairway and blasting apart clusters of rocks.
What was the worst thing about insulting someone? Them not hearing you!
Sitting on the ground, Nangong Yu became even more spirited. “A bunch of useless trash!”
“No wonder the Purple Sun Sect was driven out of Central Province and ended up stranded in the barren Taihua Province.”
“What kind of sect could a pack of incompetents possibly run?”
Her voice carried upward. Even the sect master’s palms began to itch with the urge to slap her to death.
“This little girl is far too vulgar!”
“Arrogant!”
“Utterly rebellious!”
“She has no respect for her elders and superiors. She cannot be admitted into our Purple Sun Sect!”
It was simply a mouthful of outrageous nonsense.
The Purple Sun Sect was a dignified immortal sect, yet she was cursing it like a shrew sitting in the street. Even dying a hundred times would not be enough to atone for it!
It was not only the elder forming hand seals who was displeased. Several other elders were unhappy as well. What should have been a fine disciple-selection ceremony had somehow brought in a single rotten apple.
“Who is this girl? What spiritual roots does she possess?” someone asked.
The roster was in the sect master’s hands. When he opened it, Nangong Yu’s appearance appeared upon the jade slip.
A tiny figure no bigger than a thumb, her eyes curved into crescents when she smiled, with faint dimples at the corners of her mouth. Delicate and adorable.
She looked nothing like the crude young girl below, sitting on the ground, crying and wailing as she cursed.
“Nangong Yu. Three spiritual roots,” the sect master read aloud. The moment he saw her aptitude, he was rendered speechless.
The elders gathered around and saw the entry on the jade slip. At once, they found themselves at a loss for words.
“This is ridiculous!”
“How is this any different from useless spiritual roots? How can she be accepted into our sect?”
“Which disciple was responsible for Sunset City? Step forward!”
Not far away—
“Senior Brother Chen, they’re calling for you.” Ling Xue extended one finger and gently poked the person beside her.
Chen Zhi’s face had gone pale. His entire body was stiff as stone, and his cheek twitched uncontrollably. “Th-they are?”
He desperately wanted to pretend he had not heard.
If he left now and pretended he had never returned to the sect, would it still be in time?
“Sigh.” Ling Xue clenched her teeth. “I’ll go with you.”
Originally, she had thought Nangong Yu’s first problem after entering the sect would be an interrogation.
Who could have expected that before any interrogation came, an even bigger problem would arrive first?
Chen Zhi was in a daze as well. He had originally been thinking about how to make the sect take Nangong Yu’s unusual nature seriously.
But now, it no longer seemed to matter.
After that wild tirade had echoed throughout the entire sect, there was no way she could enter the Purple Sun Sect. Being beaten and thrown out today would already be the best possible outcome for her.
Thinking of this, Chen Zhi sighed inwardly and felt a measure of sympathy for her.
A life was still a life, after all.
“Greetings, Sect Master and honored elders.” Chen Zhi flew forward and bowed with his head lowered.
One elder said, “This girl’s talent is abysmal. Why did you bring her into the sect?”
Chen Zhi did not dare raise his eyes. With his head bowed, he replied softly, “She possesses spiritual roots and yearns for the path of immortality. This disciple pitied her lonely circumstances, so I brought her back. That is the first reason.”
The sect master and the others did not agree with him much, even after hearing the first part. There were many lonely and destitute people in the world—was he supposed to bring every one of them back?
Only after hearing the rest did he say, “Oh? There’s a second reason?”
Chen Zhi became even more respectful as he replied, “Yes, Sect Master. This woman has a few rather peculiar qualities.”
“Tell us in detail.”
Chen Zhi then briefly recounted what had happened in Sunset Cloud City. “Junior Sister Xie Jinyue, Junior Brother Meng Yanqing, and Junior Sister Ling Xue can all confirm this.”
The elders could not help looking astonished when they heard it. “Such a strange occurrence?”
“Junior Sister Ling Xue.” Chen Zhi turned and called toward the way they had come.
Ling Xue had been hesitating and had therefore failed to leave. Now that Chen Zhi had called her over, she flew forward reluctantly, bracing herself.
“Greetings, Sect Master. Greetings, Elders.” She lowered her head in salute.
The elders studied her. She did indeed look as though she had only recently broken through. “Tell us about the process of your breakthrough.”
If only one person had broken through, it could be dismissed as a coincidence.
But three people in succession—all of whom had some connection with Nangong Yu—naturally aroused their curiosity.
“Junior Sister Little Yu and I…”
Ling Xue did not dare conceal anything and recounted everything that had happened that day, word for word.
“Junior Sister Little Yu is actually a pretty good person,” she added at the end, forcing herself to say it.
Nangong Yu’s harsh tirade had offended the entire Purple Sun Sect. She had no future here whatsoever.
But Ling Xue had eaten her cooking, and had even advanced because of it, with her state of mind reaching a higher level. Thus, she endured her fear of backing down and continued, “She’s still young, and she had just gone through a terrible ordeal. It’s understandable that her temperament changed.”
What was she even saying? Ling Xue was crying inwardly.
No matter how drastically one’s temperament changed, one still shouldn’t be suicidal enough to insult the Purple Sun Sect from top to bottom, should one?
She could not go on any longer. She hid behind Chen Zhi, her lips pursed into a pout.
“An ordeal? What ordeal?” the Sect Master asked.
Chen Zhi waited a moment, but when no further words came from behind him, he took it upon himself to explain. “Her hometown was destroyed by cultivators.”
After a pause, he continued, “Two cultivators were fighting and happened to pass over Little Swallow Village. They failed to notice the mortals below, and the spiritual power unleashed in their battle… destroyed more than half of Little Swallow Village.”
The elders’ brows drew tightly together. “Such a thing actually happened!”
“This is utterly outrageous!”
“What kind of evil cultivators would cause trouble in the territory of the Purple Sun Sect? Investigate at once!”
The hairs on the back of Chen Zhi’s neck stood on end. Forcing himself to continue, he said, “According to the mortals of Little Swallow Village, the people involved in the battle were all wearing robes of white and violet.”
Robes of white and violet? Weren’t those the ceremonial robes of the Purple Sun Sect?
Silence fell.
Not a single person spoke—not even the Sect Master.
Cold sweat drenched Chen Zhi. His fingers curled involuntarily, and, without knowing what had possessed him, he said, “She may have witnessed something painful during the illusion just now. This disciple believes that she… she has an understandable reason…”
The moment he finished speaking, Chen Zhi regretted it so much that he wanted to bite his tongue off.
Yet when he looked toward the Heart-Questioning Trial, Nangong Yu had already managed to pull herself back up. The tear tracks on her face had not yet dried, but she silently continued climbing upward.
“Please calm down, Sect Master. Elders, please calm down,” Chen Zhi pleaded in a low voice, his face pale.
The little girl was truly infuriating.
From the moment he had first met her, she had been incorrigibly mischievous. Her mouth was full of outrageous lies, and she was constantly coming up with one scheme and trick after another.
But she was only a sixteen-year-old mortal girl, after all. Orphaned and driven far from home…
One of the elders gave him a searching look and suddenly said, “You’re Qinghong’s disciple?”
Chen Zhi bowed. “Yes, Elder. This disciple was fortunate enough to become Master’s disciple.”
“You’re pleading for her now because you think your master can protect you?” the elder asked coldly.
Chen Zhi immediately fell to his knees. “This disciple wouldn’t dare!”
Once he knelt, Ling Xue behind him was revealed. She knelt as well. “Please forgive us, Elder.”
The elder glanced at Ling Xue but paid her no further attention.
She had broken through because of Nangong Yu, so it was hardly strange that she would speak up for her.
“She insulted the Ziyang Sect and showed disrespect to the elders, yet you say she has extenuating circumstances,” the elder said coldly. “Is that what you truly think as well?”
Chen Zhi slammed his forehead against the ground. “This disciple wouldn’t dare!”
Nangong Yu was merely a mortal. They had already attacked her once, and the fact that she had managed to escape was nothing more than good fortune.
But their anger needed an outlet, and Chen Zhi, who had pleaded for Nangong Yu, had happened to throw himself into their path.
“Taking in a disciple with a useless spiritual root—that is one offense.”
“Taking in a disciple who harbors resentment toward the Ziyang Sect—that is the second.”
“Knowing full well that her temperament is unruly, yet failing to teach her properly—that is the third.”
The elder listed three charges, then struck out three times, each palm slamming into Chen Zhi’s chest.
Chen Zhi was sent flying. Blood poured from his mouth, staining the front of his robes.
“Senior Brother Chen!”
Ignoring all propriety, Ling Xue hurried over and helped him up.
Chen Zhi’s face was as pale as gold paper. A scorching pain seared through his chest; it would take two or three years for his injuries to fully heal.
Yet his heart felt strangely light. “I’m fine.”
He had merely done what he ought to do and said what he wanted to say.
Nangong Yu had always looked down on him, refusing even to speak to him properly, but he was not actually a hypocritical or suspicious man.
He was not that kind of person.
“This disciple thanks the Elder for your instruction.” Chen Zhi knelt and kowtowed.
Ling Xue glanced toward the sect master. No one in the air was paying attention to them anymore. She hurriedly helped Chen Zhi to his feet, summoned her spiritual power, and carried him away.
The sect master and the elders turned their attention back to the trial.
Their gazes swept over Nangong Yu before moving on.
She was nothing more than a mortal with a useless spiritual root. What future could she possibly have? Since she was so insolent and arrogant, a little lesson would suffice. They could simply throw her out of the sect afterward.
That was what they thought. And yet, when Nangong Yu successfully climbed the nine hundred and ninety-ninth step of the Heavenly Stairway, even they could not help reacting.
Anyone could climb this stairway now?
“Just a bunch of useless nonsense.” As if echoing their thoughts, the girl who had just reached the top of the stairway spat behind her.
The elders: “…”
“Heh.” One elder turned and left at once. “These sect rules need to be changed.”
Apparently, all sorts of riffraff could enter the Ziyang Sect now!
The sect master glanced toward the top of the stairway. Nangong Yu was not particularly fast, and there were hardly any disciples left behind her.
Those still climbing were already at the end of their strength. They would not make it any farther.
He withdrew his gaze and flew toward the main peak.
The other elders dispersed as well.
Nangong Yu reached the Azure Cloud Summit and saw a group of heaven’s favored.
Anyone capable of enduring the countless trials and climbing all nine hundred and ninety-nine steps of the Heavenly Stairway was undoubtedly a prodigy.
She swept her gaze over them. There were fewer people than she had expected—only around thirty or forty.
“Nangong Yu?” A tentative voice called out, then turned mocking. “Why did you take so long to crawl up here? I got here ages ago.”
Nangong Yu did not even need to look to know it was Mo Jiuyou, that annoying little brat.
“You big idiot! Just look at yourself, tsk! Climbing must have been hard, huh? Cultivation is suffering. I think you should just go home and get married instead—” Before he could finish, his tone changed. “What are you doing?!”
Everyone’s attention was drawn to them. They watched Nangong Yu grab Mo Jiuyou by the collar and stride to the edge of the Azure Cloud Stairway, leaving them all startled.
“Who told you to climb faster than me?” Nangong Yu let go and kicked him.
Mo Jiuyou flailed helplessly, like a turtle overturned on its shell, scrambling in vain as he rolled down the stairs. “Aah—!”
“How dare you!”
“I won’t let you get away with this!”
Nangong Yu dusted off her hands, planted them on her hips, and shouted down the steps, “And I won’t let you get away with it either!”
Anyone could make threats.
The sudden turn of events stunned the others, who all wore various expressions.
“What happened between you two?” asked a clear, girlish voice. It was the girl accompanied by six guards.
Nangong Yu shook her head. “Nothing happened. He’s just a jerk. He insisted that I become his maid and wait on him.”
The moment she said it, everyone believed her.
Before Nangong Yu had arrived, Mo Jiuyou had been picking through the crowd, looking for easy targets to bully.
Someone walked to the edge of the Azure Cloud Stairway and looked down. “He can’t possibly make it back up, can he?”
The higher one climbed, the more difficult the Azure Cloud Stairway became. At the mere thought of it, everyone shuddered.
“You’re the one who won’t make it up!” A boy’s vigorous voice rang out from within the white mist. Soon, a figure emerged and rapidly climbed back up.
The Azure Cloud Stairway only tested disciples the first time they climbed it. On the second attempt, it was no different from an ordinary mountain path.
“You vicious woman!” The moment Mo Jiuyou climbed back up, he launched into a tirade at Nangong Yu. “You tried to ruin my chance at immortality! I will never forgive you!”
Nangong Yu made as if to raise her foot. He immediately ran away, stopping some distance off to continue grumbling.
“Oh, someone’s coming!”
Everyone looked up to see an immortal-looking figure riding the wind toward them.
After landing, he swept his gaze over the group. His eyes lingered briefly on Nangong Yu before moving on. “You are the disciples who have entered the inner sect this time. Come with me.”
He released a jade-green gourd from his hand. It expanded in the wind, quickly growing enormous enough to hold thirty or forty people.
The elder flew onto it first, looking down at the group. With a flick of his sleeve, a breeze swept over them, carrying everyone up one by one.
Everyone except Nangong Yu.
That breeze had not touched her.
“Hahaha!” Mo Jiuyou burst out laughing from above, dramatically clutching his stomach. “Come on up! Why aren’t you coming up? Don’t tell me you just don’t want to?”
Nangong Yu ignored him and stared at the elder instead. “Do you need me to bribe you?”
She was just being singled out by an NPC.
A player’s everyday life.
She asked with innocent sincerity, but the elder's expression darkened. He snorted. "Your thoughts are filthy!"
Clearly displeased, he swept out a stream of spiritual power and pulled her up. Yet he promptly slammed her back down with a heavy thud that made her backside ache just from the sound of it.
Nangong Yu knew why he was targeting her. Wasn't it because she had insulted him earlier?
She equipped her title.
[Did You Take the Wrong Medicine?]: If you've taken the wrong medicine, you ought to act like it. When this title is equipped, a designated target will randomly suffer one medicinal effect.
Almost instantly, a tremendous sound erupted from behind the elder's backside.
"Prrrttt--"
The blast of air was so powerful that it even lifted his robes, turning them into a little tent.
Everyone on the gourd stared in stunned silence.
"So this is what an immortal is like?" Nangong Yu said admiringly. "Even his farts are extraordinary."
The elder had never expected to make such a spectacular fool of himself in public. He glared at Nangong Yu. "Silence! You are not permitted to speak without authorization!"
Nangong Yu immediately put on a look of shame, waving her hands repeatedly. "I'm sorry, Elder. I didn't know that was the spell used to propel the gourd."
...What?
Was this immortal artifact actually powered by farts?
The disciples all looked bewildered. Some were suspicious, some incredulous, and some were struggling not to laugh.
The elder flew into a rage and struck out with his palm, intending to knock this outrageously disrespectful disciple straight off the gourd.
Nangong Yu reacted quickly, grabbing hold of Mo Jiuyou beside her. "Young Master! Please put in a good word for me! I'll serve you for a hundred years!"
Mo Jiuyou had initially resisted when she clung to him, but at those words, he immediately grew smug. "Hmph. So now you know to cling to my thigh?"
"Elder." He did not push her away again. Turning to face the elder, he stood firm against the force of the elder's palm. "My maid has behaved improperly. I apologize to you on her behalf."
He was exceedingly proud, but he had every right to be. He possessed a single spiritual root, and a mutated lightning spiritual root at that. Though still young, he had already drawn qi into his body.
His future was limitless. No one would refuse him a little face, even if he had only just entered the sect.
"Hmph." With a wave of his hand, the elder immediately urged the gourd onward.
Still annoyed, he deliberately failed to set up a protective barrier. The fierce wind buffeted the group so hard that they could barely open their eyes.
Nangong Yu then earnestly advised her young master, "Young Master, your talent is exceptional. You must keep your eyes open and choose a good master. Whatever you do, don't take some half-baked incompetent as your master."
Her eyes kept darting toward the elder, making it obvious that she was mocking him: his cultivation might look impressive, but he was utterly useless.
"Enough," Mo Jiuyou snapped at once. He was not a fool.
Nangong Yu looked at him with exasperated disappointment. "Why worry about his pride? With your talent, Young Master, in less than a hundred years, he won't even be worthy to sweep out your cave dwelling."
The flattery sent Mo Jiuyou's lips curving upward. He had to work hard to force his face back into a stern expression. "Don't talk nonsense."
The elder charged with escorting the disciples to the main peak could naturally hear Nangong Yu's insult. Ordinarily, such a bold and insolent disciple with a useless spiritual root would certainly have been taught a lesson.
But for some reason, Nangong Yu was clutching Mo Jiuyou's wrist tightly, leaving him unable to sweep her off the gourd.
And besides, his stomach was gurgling strangely, as though he really had taken the wrong medicine.
He exerted a tremendous amount of effort, barely managing to suppress the masses of gas within his body, leaving himself no attention to spare for anything else.
After hurriedly delivering them to the Main Peak, he hastily bade them farewell.
“This is the Main Peak. Once you go inside, behave yourselves,” he reminded them before leaving. “This may well be the only chance you’ll ever have in your lives to come here.”
The Main Peak of the Ziyang Sect was the most majestic of the countless verdant peaks. It was where the sect’s successive leaders and elders handled affairs.
In other words, it was the Ziyang Sect’s highest council chamber.
It was certainly not a place one could visit on a whim.
Everyone understood the importance of the occasion. They composed themselves and tidied their robes and hair ornaments.
Only then did they enter in groups.
Mo Jiuyou and Xiao Junlin walked at the front. The clear-voiced young woman with six guards—the one named Zhao Ziyun—also held her head high and strode at the very front.
The confidence of those three combined exceeded that of the other thirty people put together.
As Nangong Yu crossed the threshold, someone shoved her, “accidentally” causing her to release Mo Jiuyou’s hand and fall to the very back.
Veteran players all knew that letting the NPCs go ahead and test the waters gave them the best chance of avoiding traps.
The resplendent immortal palace instantly awed the young men and women selected from all over the region. Even Mo Jiuyou became somewhat restrained and refrained from shouting excitedly.
“These are the disciples recruited this time.” A kindly voice rang out from above.
Nangong Yu stealthily raised her eyes and saw the master of the Ziyang Sect seated in the center of the hall. He was a middle-aged male cultivator who looked to be in his thirties or forties.
He wore a golden crown and a purple-gold ceremonial robe. His bearing was imposing, and he had a beard that lent him a steady, dependable air.
Numerous seats were arranged on either side of him, occupied by both men and women—the peak masters and elders who had come to accept disciples this time.
“Of the several hundred disciples with spiritual roots, these thirty-seven climbed to the Azure Cloud Summit. They are promising candidates for the inner sect,” the sect master said in a gentle tone.
According to the Ziyang Sect’s rules, only those who climbed to the Azure Cloud Summit could be accepted into the inner sect. Those who failed to reach the top, even if they possessed a single spiritual root, would temporarily be assigned to the outer sect.
Nangong Yu did not know how other sects operated, but the Ziyang Sect had always placed far greater importance on character than innate talent. Even someone with a single spiritual root was not worth cultivating if their temperament was lacking.
“Greetings, Sect Master. Greetings, Elders.” Xiao Junlin was the first to kneel and bow.
The others promptly came to their senses and hurriedly followed suit.
Mixed in among the crowd, Nangong Yu knelt as well. She hunched her shoulders, doing her best to make herself look inconspicuous.
“Rise.” With a force as gentle as a breeze, everyone was lifted to their feet.
The crowd grew even more reverent. Their faces flushed with excitement, and their emotions rose uncontrollably.
“What are your names? What kind of spiritual roots do you possess? And why do you wish to cultivate?” the sect master asked kindly. “You may begin.”
He pointed to the person at the far left of the front row.
When they had entered, Mo Jiuyou and the others had been at the head of the group. But after taking their places, they had split into three rows.
At the far left of the first row stood a somewhat petite female disciple with bright, shining eyes.
“This disciple is Zhou Wan. I possess dual spiritual roots of metal and fire, and I wish to attain immortality.”
The sect master nodded. “Good.” Then he looked to the person on her right. “And you?”
Following Zhou Wan’s example, that disciple began to speak as well.
Soon, it was Zhao Ziyun's turn.
"Disciple Zhao Ziyun. I have a single water spiritual root. My mother says I was born to be an immortal."
The young girl's clear voice carried a note of pride.
She had arrived at the sect with six guards in tow. It was obvious her family background was far from ordinary.
"Disciple Xiao Junlin. I have a single fire spiritual root. Heaven gave me talents for a purpose, and I shall devote myself to pursuing immortality." When it was Xiao Junlin's turn, he spoke neither humbly nor arrogantly, while making his lofty ambitions clear.
This was a one-sided interview between disciples and masters.
Their names, spiritual roots, ages, and family backgrounds had long since been recorded on jade slips and delivered to the sect master and elders.
But those facts alone were not enough to determine whether they would be accepted as disciples. Their temperaments, preferences, and the rapport between master and disciple would decide the final step.
"Mo Jiuyou. Mutated lightning spiritual root." When it was Mo Jiuyou's turn, he refused to follow convention. Turning, he pointed at Nangong Yu. "Sect Master, I am still young and require someone to look after me. Let her take care of me."
Although Nangong Yu called him "Young Master" outside, Mo Jiuyou was no fool. He knew she was using him.
Was he someone so easily used?
Knowing how cunning Nangong Yu was, he decided to strike first. With his rare spiritual root, he would secure her by his side.
Such an unconventional move made the disciples turn in unison toward the back rows.
Nangong Yu stood at the very end of the last row.
Under the gaze of everyone present, including the sect master, she smiled. "I'm fine with anything."
Then I'll make him a generator.
"Absolutely not!" A clear voice rang out. It was Zhao Ziyun. Pointing at Nangong Yu, she said, "She is my sworn elder sister. How can she be made your servant?"
?
Nangong Yu stared at Zhao Ziyun in astonishment. What was she talking about?
"This junior sister is the sworn younger sister I have just taken," Xiao Junlin said as well, even more unexpectedly. Older than the others and born into the imperial family, he spoke at an unhurried pace. "A princess of the Xiao Imperial Dynasty should reside with me."
???
Nangong Yu secretly checked her player interface, suspecting that the damned system had tampered with her profile without her knowledge.
"Why are the two of you fighting over her?" an elder above asked.
At last, Mo Jiuyou realized what was happening. A sense of betrayal and indignation at having her snatched away rose within him. "What are you doing?!"
Zhao Ziyun glanced at him, lifting her chin high with radiant confidence. "My sworn sister and I felt an instant connection."
Xiao Junlin merely said, "I cannot stand certain people using their status to bully others."
"We had an agreement!" Mo Jiuyou snapped. "Who bullied her? Stop twisting the truth!"
Seeing this, the sect master sent out a voice transmission and summoned the elder who had led the group.
"Sect Master." Before long, the escorting elder entered the great hall and bowed toward the main seat.
After taking a Qi-Transforming Pill and circulating his spiritual energy to purge it from his system, the strange sensation of having taken the wrong medicine had finally faded.
With a single divine-sense transmission from the sect master, the escorting elder immediately understood what had happened. His expression darkened at once.
"Hm?" The sect master was curious. "Is there some hidden matter here?"
How had this fiery, audacious mortal girl with such dreadful spiritual roots become the prized target of all these prodigies?
He had only been gone a short while. What had happened in the meantime?
"Reporting to the Sect Master..." the escorting elder replied through a voice transmission.
Of course, he couldn’t admit that he had bullied her. He merely said that Nangong Yu had tried to bribe him, and when he rebuked her, she immediately began clinging to Mo Jiuyou.
He painted Nangong Yu as someone scheming, eager to curry favor with the powerful, and skilled at opportunism.
But he had forgotten that if Nangong Yu were truly that sort of person, it would have been impossible for three prodigies—including Xiao Junlin—to compete over her.
The sect leader’s expression remained indifferent. “I understand.”
With a wave of his hand, he dismissed the elder leading the group, then turned his gaze to Mo Jiuyou’s side. “What is your name?”
The process was not yet complete.
Since he had not agreed to anyone, the three of them did not dare act rashly and listened as the others introduced themselves.
One disciple after another finished their introductions. At last, it was Nangong Yu’s turn.
Nangong Yu could feel the gazes falling upon her from above, one after another, filled with scrutiny and pressure.
Her expression remained calm as she introduced herself. “This disciple is Nangong Yu. I have three spiritual roots: earth, water, and wood. I cultivate just for fun. If I can become immortal, all the better. If not, so be it.”
She had been thrown into this high-risk dungeon instance. Who knew whether immortality itself was a scam? Nangong Yu had no particular obsession with it.
“Outrageous!”
“Cultivation is no child’s play!”
“Such arrogant nonsense!”
Rebukes rang out from above.
Nangong Yu curled her lips slightly. Bosses were like that—always looking for trouble with players. So many people before her had spoken, and they had ignored them all. Yet the moment she opened her mouth, they started nitpicking.
“And what about you?” She looked up at them, blinking her bright, clear eyes as she asked in return, “Just how serious, earnest, and humble are you?”
Her crisp voice rang out, each word clear and firm.
“Please enlighten me.”
