None of the ten beast-husbands had ever heard the term “comrade.”
If a male had said it, they would have immediately warned him to address their Mistress as “Your Excellency.”
But the person who had said it was a woman.
Their good manners made it impossible for them to say such a thing to another woman, so they could only remain silent.
Yunyang nodded at Li Lin. “I was the one who called the police. Regarding the matter of our sudden appearance, I need to speak with your director.”
The smile on Li Lin’s face deepened.
“Let me introduce myself. My name is Li Lin.”
“Now you can tell me what happened.”
Yunyang blinked a few times and instantly understood.
She gestured to the ten beast-husbands, then followed Li Lin into the police station.
After taking a seat, she didn’t explain what had happened right away. Instead, she introduced herself first. “Director Li, my name is Yunyang. I graduated from Wudaokou University. Both my parents are deceased. My ID number is 411300…”
Yunyang had thought she’d forgotten her former ID number.
But once she said the first few digits, before her mind could even react, her mouth continued on its own.
It was probably muscle memory.
Li Lin held a pen and paper, recording everything as Yunyang spoke.
When she heard the words “Wudaokou University,” a trace of admiration appeared in her eyes.
For someone from Province H to get into Wudaokou University, she must have worked incredibly hard.
Li Lin glanced at the information she had recorded and asked, “Comrade Yunyang, where do you live now?”
“Apartment 701, Building X, Unit X, Lingguang Residential Complex.”
The moment she heard the address, the expression on Li Lin’s face suddenly turned serious.
In March of the previous year, she had received a call from Lingguang Residential Complex reporting that someone in a neighbor’s home might have died.
She had handled that case herself. After ruling out both murder and suicide, the police had determined that the victim had died suddenly from overwork and staying up too late.
The victim had also been an orphan, and the community had helped take care of the funeral arrangements.
The victim had lived in the very same Apartment 701 that the young woman in front of her had just mentioned.
Li Lin didn’t believe this could be a coincidence. She stood up. “Comrade Yunyang, please wait here for a moment.”
After saying this, she immediately left the room and had someone retrieve the deceased’s records from a year ago.
Once she had pulled up the file and finished reading it, Li Lin fell silent.
The deceased’s name, gender, ID number, address, and even university were all exactly the same as what Yunyang had reported. The only difference was their age.
The deceased had been thirty-one, while the young woman claiming to be Yunyang looked barely twenty.
Li Lin retrieved a photograph of the deceased. Ignoring the difference in age, the two looked as though they had been carved from the same mold.
That degree of resemblance would have been difficult to achieve even with plastic surgery.
Li Lin drew in a sharp breath.
This matter… seemed to be completely overturning everything she had understood about the world.
After composing herself, Li Lin turned to her colleague. “Can we retrieve any other information about the deceased?”
The colleague searched through the database, then nodded. “The fingerprints are still on file.”
“Pull them up. I’ll have that young woman provide her fingerprints.”
“Yes.”
·
When Li Lin returned to the room, she saw Yunyang surrounded by her ten beast-husbands, who were all taking care of her. One was massaging her shoulders, another was offering her water, and so on.
Their intimate manner made it obvious that they were far from ordinary acquaintances.
But… there were ten of them!
It was one thing for all ten men to have an unusual relationship with the young woman. How could they possibly get along so harmoniously as well?
Was this normal?
Li Lin summoned every ounce of self-control she possessed to keep herself composed.
She sat down across from Yunyang again, but she no longer dared to look at Yunyang and the ten men.
“Comrade Yunyang, here’s the situation. To verify your identity, we need to take your fingerprints.”
Yunyang understood. She also wanted to know whether her fingerprints were the same as they had been in her previous life.
She cooperatively provided the prints of all ten fingers.
The ten beast-husbands remained beside her the entire time, watching as she skillfully submitted her fingerprints.
Their Mistress seemed to know a great deal about this prehistoric civilization. Could it be that she had been here before?
The beast-husbands couldn’t figure it out, but Li Lin quickly compared Yunyang’s fingerprints with those of the deceased.
The result made her draw in another sharp breath.
They were exactly the same?
The other information could perhaps have been obtained from other sources, but fingerprints absolutely could not be explained as a coincidence.
Furthermore, when the police had brought the young woman and the several men back to the station, they had learned from bystanders that she really had appeared out of thin air.
Someone returning from the dead… appearing out of thin air…
Li Lin felt that this was no longer an incident their police station could handle.
She arranged for Yunyang to stay in the station’s lounge, then reported the matter through the proper channels.
Before long, a man named Zhang Jianguo arrived at the station.
Li Lin led all the police officers in welcoming him at the entrance. “Director Zhang.”
Zhang Jianguo raised a hand. “There’s no need for formalities. Take me to see the young woman.”
Li Lin immediately led him to the lounge.
The moment he entered, Zhang Jianguo noticed that the eleven people in the room all had the same object attached to their hands.
Was that… a chip?
Zhang Jianguo wasn’t certain, but he could say with confidence that no such chip, capable of being embedded in the skin, had ever appeared in the country before.
He kept a certain distance from Yunyang before taking a seat.
“Young Comrade, Little Li told me that you suddenly appeared outdoors?”
If this had been the Yunyang of her previous life, she would have stood up trembling the moment she saw Zhang Jianguo.
After all, he was a major figure who frequently appeared in political news.
But the Yunyang of the present was the only SSS-rank female in the Federation, and she addressed the Empress as her sister. Her reaction was perfectly calm; she merely straightened her posture slightly.
“Yes. You should already know the general details. We really did appear out of thin air. More precisely, we traveled back through time.”
Li Lin didn’t know how to react.
She had actually heard someone say something this absurd in real life…
If the young woman’s story hadn’t been corroborated by the facts and all the information hadn’t matched up, Li Lin would have assumed she had watched too many cheesy short dramas.
Zhang Jianguo had encountered plenty of strange things in his time, so he was still able to remain calm.
He asked, “Young Comrade, you said that you traveled back through time. Can you tell me what year it is where you come from?”
“Federation Year 7240.”
Yunyang didn’t hide anything. After all, with Earth’s current technology, it was impossible for them to develop a time machine under any circumstances.
That technology had only been invented seven thousand years after the Federation was established.
Besides, she had just confirmed that she could return to the Federation whenever she wished, and that the beast-husbands could use their abilities as well, so there was nothing for her to worry about.
At worst, she could simply demonstrate by vanishing on the spot.
“The Federation?” A flicker passed through Zhang Jianguo’s eyes. “Did war change the situation on Earth?”
Yunyang shook her head. “The Federation was established after the Solar System exploded.”
“I know you may not believe me. I can show you something.”
