【Federation Marriage Center: Esteemed Lady Yunyang, the male Leonardo has applied to become your beast husband. Are you willing to be matched with him?】
Staring at the somewhat familiar name on the light screen, Yunyang blinked in confusion.
Who?
Leonardo?
Wasn’t that the new name Liang Yixiao had given the tailless fox?
The image of the little white fox surfaced in Yunyang’s mind. But she remembered that Leonardo was a tailless fox, and among the foxfolk, being born without a tail meant that one would never awaken an ability.
She didn’t discriminate against males without abilities. After all, it wasn’t something they could decide for themselves.
But how could the Federation Marriage Center have accepted an application from a male without abilities—and even notified her directly?
Yunyang opened the file attached to the notification.
Name: Leonardo
Age: 23
Height: 192 centimeters
Beast form: Nine-tailed fox
Abilities: Healing, wood element
Ability level: S
Occupation: Member of the Federation’s First Army
Genetic compatibility: 98%
Aside from the name, this “Leonardo” had practically nothing in common with the Leonardo she knew.
It was probably just a case of two people sharing the same name.
There were so many beastfolk in the Federation. It was perfectly normal for a few of them to have identical names, so Yunyang didn’t find it particularly strange.
She opened the photo in the file and unexpectedly found herself staring into a pair of familiar eyes.
The male in the photo had short white hair, with a few strands of green at his forehead, giving the impression of dyed highlights.
Those beautiful black fox eyes were an exact match for the ones she had met in a fleeting glance at the Purification Tower that day.
So he was the male who had undergone purification before.
Yunyang continued browsing through the photos. When males applied for a match, they usually uploaded not only photos of their humanoid forms but also photos of their beast forms.
Yet after flipping through several pictures, she saw nothing but photos of Leonardo in humanoid form.
Some showed him in casual clothes, some in a military uniform, and some with his upper body bare…
Most foxfolk had a pair of captivating eyes, and Leonardo was no exception.
But the male in the photos had a coldness between his brows and eyes that forcefully suppressed their natural allure.
When it came to looks, the foxfolk’s average appearance far surpassed that of the other races, and Leonardo was among the most outstanding of them.
He didn’t look bad, either.
Yunyang continued scrolling through the photos. Leonardo had uploaded quite a lot of them, but it was only in the very last one that she finally saw his beast form.
A towering white nine-tailed fox.
Unlike the adorable little creature she had seen before, Leonardo’s beast form was imposing. His nine white tails were large and fluffy, looking as though they would be wonderfully soft to pet.
But those emerald-green eyes looked very much like the ones in Yunyang’s memory.
Not only did they share the same name and the same race, but even their eyes were so similar…
Could there really be such a coincidence?
Yunyang narrowed her eyes and quickly noticed that the fur on the tips of the fox’s ears and tails was a pale green.
It was exactly the same as the tailless fox’s.
Yunyang didn’t respond to the Marriage Center right away. Instead, she sent a message to Yun Shaoqi, who was far away on T01.
【Brother Shaoqi, do you remember the tailless fox we brought back from the Desolate Star back then?】
It was lunchtime, and the Federation Army’s morning training had already ended, so Yun Shaoqi replied quickly.
【Of course I remember. Leon is practically my best buddy now!】
【Yunyang, why are you suddenly asking about him?】
When a female suddenly asked about a male, there was an eighty percent chance she wanted to take him as her beast husband.
Even though Leon was his good buddy, Yun Shaoqi still became wary.
Good buddy?
Yunyang was puzzled.
【Brother Shaoqi, when did you two become so close?】
Yun Shaoqi sent several messages in a row.
【Yunyang, you don’t know? After the insect queen’s egg-laying site was destroyed, she became furious and sent the insect race to attack the Federation.】
【Although other Federation soldiers helped at the time, the battle was still extremely brutal. An eighth-level insect beast targeted me, and I almost died.】
【That was when Leon suddenly appeared. He used his ability to heal my injuries, then fought alongside me and killed that eighth-level insect beast!】
Even now, Yun Shaoqi still felt a lingering fear whenever he recalled what had happened.
If not for Leon, he might have died in that battle alongside some of his fellow soldiers.
Only then did Yunyang learn that although news of the destruction of the insect queen’s egg-laying site had spread only recently, half a month had already passed since the incident itself.
During that half month, the insects had attempted to retaliate against the Federation, only to be held back by the Federation Army.
Wherever there was war, there would inevitably be casualties. Although the Federation Army’s losses were not as severe as the insects’, they had still lost quite a number of comrades.
Healers played an enormous role in war.
That was also why Leonardo’s contamination level could no longer be controlled with suppressants, forcing him to make an appointment for one of her purification slots.
But Yunyang’s original question still hadn’t been answered.
【But didn’t he used to have no abilities?】
Yun Shaoqi replied:
【I’m not too clear on that myself. I only know that Leon went to see the commander before, then stayed in the command tower for several days. After he came out, he had grown a tail and awakened his abilities.】
The entire First Army found the matter puzzling.
Yet no matter how subtly they tried to pry, they couldn’t get the truth out of Leo.
If Commander Leo didn’t want to talk about something, then even Her Majesty the Empress wouldn’t be able to force it out of him.
Looking at Yun Shaoqi’s reply, Yunyang opened the message from the Federation Marriage Center again.
So this “Leonardo” really was the Leonardo she knew?
Then he should still be able to shrink his beast form.
Thinking of the adorable little creature from before, Yunyang felt a pleasant itch in her heart and immediately agreed to the match.
【Federation Marriage Center: Leonardo, your application for a match has been accepted. Congratulations! You and Lady Yunyang have established a marriage bond. Please choose an auspicious date to go to Lady Yunyang’s side, and remember: protecting females is the foremost duty of every male in the Federation. We wish you a happy marriage~】
In a temporary residence near Residential District 3, Leonardo stared at the notification on his wrist terminal and abruptly stood up.
The coldness on his face shattered, replaced by a hint of nervousness.
She… had agreed?
Lady Yunyang hadn’t disliked him. She had even allowed him to become her beast husband!
Excitement, disbelief, apprehension… In an instant, all sorts of complicated emotions swept over Leonardo.
He didn’t know what to do. All he could do was instinctively open his wrist terminal and transfer everything he owned to Yunyang.
As a meritorious soldier, he had received a huge sum of Federation credits and military rewards.
Now, he had transferred it all to Yunyang.
Chen Yueli was just as at a loss. He was waiting outside the residential district gates.
He had waited there all morning and thought he would leave empty-handed, but unexpectedly, he received the notification that his match through the Marriage Center had succeeded.
Chen Yueli stood there in a daze.
Although his genetic compatibility with Lady Yunyang… No, he should call her Mistress now.
Although his genetic compatibility with Mistress was extremely high, whether the match would succeed still depended on Mistress’s decision.
He was worried that Mistress might not like him, so he had come over early that morning to try his luck. Since he didn’t know exactly where Mistress lived, he had gone to the wrong place several times.
Fortunately, the females’ residential district on X92 was fairly concentrated, allowing him to eventually find the right place.
Chen Yueli merely wanted to fight for a chance for himself.
Unexpectedly, instead of waiting for his Mistress, he received a notice that the match had been successful.
