The Innocent Sweetheart is Destined to Win

Chapter 13

◎She’s Not Tired!◎

Jian Youyou was fussing over Yu Hekun in a rather haphazard way when the door opened. A caregiver, summoned by the doorbell, came in apologizing profusely, “I’m so sorry, I was downstairs just now and got here a bit late…”

Yu Hekun stormed in, his head down. When he saw Jian Youyou hugging him, his steps faltered, and his voice caught. With a dark expression, he pushed Jian Youyou away—she had insisted on helping him to the bathroom—and looked toward the caregiver. “Why aren’t you coming over yet?!”

The caregiver quickly hurried over, supported Yu Hekun, and headed toward the bathroom.

Jian Youyou shrugged, walked over to the cabinet, and tossed the empty plastic water bottle aside. She popped a few more bites of the snacks into her mouth, finished them, threw the packaging away, then went to the bathroom door and knocked. “Mr. Yu, I’m stepping out for a bit to buy some things.”

Yu Hekun was filling a container with water when the bathroom door was suddenly knocked on. Jian Youyou’s voice came through. He shivered, so startled his urine split into two streams, and he squeezed the caregiver’s shoulder so hard it hurt—the caregiver grimaced.

After a moment, Yu Hekun bellowed with all his might, “Get out!”

Jian Youyou didn’t care about his tone. She simply acknowledged his command to leave, and still spoke gently, “I’ll be back soon.”

This time, she tucked away the card Yu Hekun had given her earlier and leisurely went out shopping.

The Yu family’s business empire was vast. The novel’s storyline mentioned that just in Zhouning City alone, their enterprises spanned numerous industries. Jian Youyou had originally thought this was an exaggeration because she had to work pretty hard to get that card from Yu Hekun in the car—he seemed so stingy.

But Jian Youyou visited two luxury malls and three regular shopping centers. At four of these places, when she pulled out Yu Hekun’s card to pay, managers personally came out to greet her, offering generous discounts and gifts. At the last mall, they even sent a car to take Jian Youyou to a designated location.

She bought a huge pile of things and was mysteriously dropped off at the hospital entrance, carrying several large bags of luxury brands. Under the hospital’s cold, pale lights, her face showed a dazed expression that finally snapped her back to reality.

Only then did she realize that in this story, Jian Youyou wasn’t just attached to some local rich kid—this was a business empire’s young heir. No wonder she guarded him so fiercely. When the male lead’s old flame returned to the country, causing unbearable awkwardness, she still refused to give up on Yu Hekun.

Who in their right mind would just let go?

Here’s the harsh truth: you could live a simple, ordinary life, struggling day in and day out to make ends meet. Or you could be with Yu Hekun, living off gold every day, to the point it could literally kill you from overeating. Is that really a life?!

Jian Youyou inhaled the cool night air. Carrying all the little odds and ends she’d bought, she walked toward the hospital building under the night sky. Deep down, she made a firm decision—she would treat Yu Hekun better, much better, from now on.

Jian Youyou couldn’t help but do some serious calculations. With her original persona acting up like this, she was still getting paid so much money? If she behaved herself and managed to coax that childish Yu Hekun into being completely obedient, then after the breakup... Jian Youyou suddenly felt her heart race and her knees go weak. Damn it, this was what being in love felt like!

A walking fortune, indeed. According to her original persona, Jian Youyou’s breakup fee was fifty million yuan. But judging by how things were going today, to Yu Hekun, that thirty million was barely enough to hush a beggar. If she played her cards right and served this master well enough to stir some guilt in him at the moment of parting, that fifty million might just turn into five hundred million!

Jian Youyou’s cheeks flushed bright red. Nothing made her heart beat faster than cold, hard cash. Even hearing the name Yu Hekun now carried an inexplicable air of luxury and wealth.

Who in this world doesn’t love money? If a wild dream could guarantee a lifetime of ease, then no matter how miserable the manager was in the dream, everything would suddenly feel so wonderful.

As Jian Youyou carried her things up the stairs, a kind-hearted guy offered to help, but she firmly refused. Did he know how much she was wearing? She was basically a walking diamond, the most dazzling creature in the entire building!

She wasn’t tired!

But when it came time to press the elevator button, she did accept the guy’s help—her wrists were adorned with two three-finger-wide golden bangles that simply wouldn’t bend.

Of course, gold wasn’t the most valuable thing she had. Compared to other valuables, it was much heavier. But gold was the easiest to sell in the real world and wouldn’t attract too much unwanted attention. Earlier, she could claim that the certificate for her little diamond was lost. But if it were something more precious, it would be much harder to explain.

Besides, she didn’t know much about other valuables and could easily be fooled. But gold was different—it was a more common and straightforward asset. These wide, hefty bangles could easily be explained as wedding gifts for the bride. Now that the wedding was over and the items needed to be sold, no one would suspect a thing.

So she stacked seven bangles on each arm in one go. It was heavy, but it made her incredibly happy!

Jian Youyou strutted into the VIP ward like a Christmas tree hung with jewels. Two older ladies sitting on a bench in the hallway stared at her with wide eyes.

But Jian Youyou held her head high, proud as ever. When she entered Yu Hekun’s hospital room, she even wiggled her hips to get in.

Yu Hekun had already eaten dinner and was leaning against the bed, one eye fixed on the laptop on the small dining table. Papers and documents were spread out beside him—he was clearly working.

The moment Jian Youyou walked in, she smiled like a sunflower basking in the sun. “Honey! I’m back!”

She upgraded the term of endearment right away, but Yu Hekun didn’t even lift an eyelid. He just curled his lips slightly and continued staring at the computer, treating Jian Youyou like she was invisible air.

But Jian Youyou didn’t care at all. To her, Yu Hekun was a living treasure, a walking ATM. Something like that didn’t need to act like a person. Expecting him to both hand over money and behave like a decent human being was just too much!

Especially when all you want is his money, why bother making him feel human!

Jian Youyou was unloading her pile of stuff in the corner, reluctantly slipping off the bracelet from her wrist and hiding it under her clothes. Then she picked out the most glamorous dress—one that leaned toward the princess style of the novel’s heroine, Huo Jiaoyue, the male lead’s beloved “white moonlight.” She hurried to the bathroom to change and applied a meticulously crafted makeup look. More than half an hour later, she emerged transformed—her entire aura had shifted. Red lips, flowing long hair; she looked exactly like a ghost haunting the night.

But there was no choice. The heroine in the story was just like this. There was a line in the original novel describing her: she was always exquisitely refined, her lip color even more dazzling than carefully applied makeup, alluring yet delicate, able to awaken the deepest urges in a man—to protect and to destroy.

Jian Youyou’s natural lip color was rather pale. To achieve that vivid look, she had to rely on cosmetics. But as the saying goes, “Dong Shi imitates a frown”—the few times Yu Hekun had taken her out, it was with professional stylists who did her up. She was a bit clumsy with makeup herself; whether she was alluring or not was uncertain, but whenever she went out now, those two chatting in the hallway would always glance at her and then run away.

Still, this was the best she could do to please her benefactor. So she glanced around confidently and silently stepped out of the bathroom, sitting gracefully by Yu Hekun’s bedside with a classic Mona Lisa smile, hands folded neatly on her lap.

Yu Hekun was deeply focused. From the moment Jian Youyou entered the room, he hadn’t even glanced at her. They say a focused man is the most attractive—yet no matter how attractive, right now he was at best a single-eyed dragon locked in concentration.

Jian Youyou didn’t disturb him either, maintaining her elegant and beautiful posture as she waited for him to turn around. But Yu Hekun, the CEO, wasn’t some ruthless tycoon—he was sick and still had a mountain of work to handle. Sitting by his bed, Jian Youyou watched as he held two video conferences back to back. She couldn’t understand a word of what was said, but by the time he finally pinched the bridge of his nose and finished his work, it was already midnight.

Jian Youyou was so sleepy she kept yawning one after another. When Yu Hekun finally summoned the energy to ask the nurse to help him to the bathroom, he turned his head—and just caught sight of Jian Youyou yawning.

With her blazing red lips, flowing long hair, and a pale white dress, her wide-open mouth startled Yu Hekun so much he nearly wet himself.

“What the hell!” Yu Hekun dodged to the other side of the bed, arms raised defensively.

He had been too focused before, and Jian Youyou had been so quiet he hadn’t even realized someone was sitting by his bed. Then, in the dead of night, he turned his head—and there was a huge, gaping mouth right in his face. Anyone would have been scared out of their wits.

But after recognizing Jian Youyou, Yu Hekun shouted angrily, “What are you doing? You look like a ghost! Who are you trying to scare to death?”

Jian Youyou looked at him innocently. “Didn’t you say I wasn’t dedicated enough, that I didn’t look like her? So I dressed up specially to show you.”

The drowsiness and fatigue that had weighed on Yu Hekun completely vanished, replaced by a surge of anger. "What makes you think acting like that makes you just like her?!"

Gritting his teeth, Yu Hekun pointed at her sharply, "Go wash up right now!"

Jian Youyou was already growing impatient from waiting, and being yelled at didn’t exactly brighten her mood. Just as she was about to retort stubbornly, her eyes caught the things she had bought earlier, tucked away in the corner. Her restless irritation smoothed out instantly, like dry, tangled hair suddenly coated with nourishing oil. She quickly forced a smile. "Don’t be mad, darling, I’ll go wash up right away."

“Who’s your darling? Who’s your darling?!” Yu Hekun grumbled behind her. Jian Youyou stepped into the bathroom and in no time, wiped herself clean with two makeup remover wipes, erasing all traces of the ghostly look she’d been carrying.

A splash of water refreshed her, and the reflection in the mirror revealed her pure, serene features.

She casually tied her hair up, slipped out of the fancy dress, and underneath was just a soft T-shirt paired with sporty shorts. Draping the dress over her arm, her long, toned legs moved with a captivating rhythm. Yu Hekun, who had originally called for the nurse and was holding back his need to pee by the bedside, watched Jian Youyou step out. He wanted to say something sharp, but the sight of her legs made the words vanish before they could escape his mouth.
