Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Three
"Wasn't someone sent to fetch the physician? Is he here yet?" Guard Two frowned as he spoke.
"Should we go and inform His Highness instead?" Guard One's gaze fell upon the wine jug on the table. It seemed it was given by His Highness just today.
If the wine really was the problem, His Highness would probably...
Guard One didn't dare to think further.
"You go notify His Highness, and ask him to bring Doctor Hu over to check on Lord Li. We can't let anything serious happen." Guard Two urged.
As soon as Guard One left, Guard Two saw Li Tianyou's entire face begin to turn dark, and he started foaming at the mouth.
"This is bad!" Seeing this, Guard Two was terrified. He hurriedly stuffed the All-Purpose Antidote Pill that Doctor Hu had prepared for them earlier into Li Tianyou's mouth.
He thought to himself, the wine absolutely must not be the issue.
Otherwise, His Highness would have a hard time explaining this to the Princess Consort, wouldn't he?
The charge of poisoning his future father-in-law was not one His Highness could afford to bear.
Thinking of this, Guard Two also coolly shoved a Jade Clarity Pill from his own pocket into Li Tianyou's mouth.
Fortunately, Li Tianyou's originally dark and heavy face gradually regained a trace of color.
"Water... water..."
Li Tianyou only felt extremely parched.
Guard Two quickly poured a cup of water for Li Tianyou, helped him sit up, and fed it to him.
Over there, a servant led a physician, hurrying over.
"Physician, please take a look at my master quickly. What's wrong with him?" the servant said anxiously.
"Isn't the master just asleep?" The old physician looked at Li Tianyou's ruddy complexion and asked somewhat puzzled.
"Goodness, please just examine him. There's another gentleman in the next room." The servant said urgently.
The old physician had no choice but to quickly step forward and take Li Tianyou's pulse.
The old physician did have some skill.
"The antidote was administered in time. He's fine. Just let him rest and recuperate properly." After saying this, the old physician stood up.
"R-really... really fine?" The servant asked uncertainly.
"If you don't believe this old man's words, you can invite someone else!" The old physician hated it most when people doubted his medical expertise.
"I do believe you! Then, may I trouble you to take a look at the gentleman next door?" The servant quickly said.
After all, Zhou Tong in the next room was still screaming and shouting at that moment.
The old physician, with a dark expression, followed the servant to Zhou Tong's room.
The old physician frowned as he looked at Zhou Tong, who was wailing miserably.
"What's wrong with him?" the old physician asked irritably.
"He was drinking with my master and suddenly collapsed, crying out in pain." The servant had been watching Zhou Tong and Li Tianyou drink from not far away, worried they might need something, and hadn't dared to go far.
"Drinking? Could he not drink alcohol before either?" The old physician frowned and asked.
But he still sat down to take Zhou Tong's pulse.
"Poisoned." The old physician stated decisively.
"Poisoned?" Now it was the servant's turn to be incredulous. Just moments ago, this physician had said the master was fine.
"Yes, poisoned. I'll write a prescription in a moment, have him take it. Whether the poison can be neutralized depends on his fate." The old physician finished speaking and waited to the side.
"Is my master really alright?" The servant asked, confused.
"Your master shows signs of having been poisoned, but he must have taken some kind of antidote. He's currently not in any great danger." The old physician said with great certainty.
Xu Heming, who had just rushed over, heard this and his heart skipped a beat.
At this moment, if he didn't realize that Huo Yunxuan was probably setting him up, he was a fool.
"Go take a look." Xu Heming quickly motioned to Doctor Hu beside him.
Doctor Hu looked at Zhou Tong, who was still howling, with a trace of pity in his eyes.
After examining him, Doctor Hu directly took a detoxification pill from his medicine chest and stuffed it into Zhou Tong's mouth.
"Your Highness, wasn't it said that Lord Li also..." Doctor Hu turned to Xu Heming and asked.
"Go check." Xu Heming was also somewhat worried about Li Tianyou's condition.
Fortunately, he was right next door. Guard Two was keeping watch.
Seeing Xu Heming arrive, he quickly stepped forward and bowed: "Your Highness."
"Is Lord Li alright?" Xu Heming asked.
"Lord Li has been sleeping all along. But that physician just now said he was fine. This subordinate took the liberty of feeding Lord Li the All-Purpose Antidote Pill and the Jade Clarity Pill." Guard Two reported quickly.
Doctor Hu hurried forward to check Li Tianyou's condition.
Seeing his ruddy complexion, he also breathed a sigh of relief: "He's fine. He's just asleep now. Is there any of that wine left?"
Doctor Hu wanted to see what was wrong with that wine.
Hearing that Li Tianyou was fine, Guard Two also relaxed, but regarding the wine, he had already checked—it was all finished.
"They've finished the wine, but the wine jug is still here. Will that do?" Guard Two asked quickly.
"Bring it for this old man to examine." As Doctor Hu spoke, he even glanced at Xu Heming.
Xu Heming stood to the side with a dark expression.
Mainly because, at the time, Huo Yunxuan had said it was Li Tianyou's favorite wine, and he had personally tasted it—the flavor was indeed excellent.
Who knew it would be problematic?
The first time giving wine to his future father-in-law, and he almost drank him to death.
If Li Tianyou found out, would he still agree to marry his daughter to him?
This blame, no matter what, could not be placed on his own shoulders.
The old physician examined the wine. Although the poison had been added subtly, he spotted the problem at a glance; it was indeed tainted.
"Your Highness, it seems someone doesn't want you to marry the Princess Consort." Doctor Hu stroked his beard, looking at Xu Heming as he spoke.
"This wine isn't the problem. The problem lies with the side dishes." Xu Heming, however, looked meaningfully at the small dishes outside that hadn't been cleared away yet, speaking as if stating a fact.
"But that... Right, the dishes are the problem." Guard Two had been about to say the dishes were fine, but then quickly changed his tune.
Li'an County
When Li Zhiwei slowly woke up, she discovered, to her shock, that her hands were tied.
Beside her were also Xu Qingshi and Yao Shuheng.
What was going on?
Had they been kidnapped?
"Mmmph mmmph......" Li Zhiwei struggled, trying to alert the person beside her.
Xu Qingshi also opened his eyes at that moment. Seeing the situation before him, he was also puzzled.
Yao Shuheng beside them continued to pretend he hadn't woken up yet.
Li Zhiwei surveyed the dilapidated room, unable to understand how she had gotten herself kidnapped.
She had grown up in Li'an County and had never encountered kidnapping before. Who would have thought that upon returning to Li'an County for the first time, she would run into this again.
"Creeeak!"
In the dim room, the small door was pushed open from the outside.
Li Zhiwei and Xu Qingshi exchanged a glance.
Both stared intently toward the outside.
"Well, well, awake are we?" The newcomer saw Li Zhiwei looking at him. There wasn't a trace of fear in her eyes; instead, there seemed to be a hint of schadenfreude.
"Mmmph mmmph!" Li Zhiwei wanted to ask who he was, but found she couldn't say anything.
"Enough, I know who you are. The daughter of the Li family, the richest man around. I hear your family's silver is endless? How about sharing some with this young master for some fun?" As the man said this, his gaze toward Li Zhiwei turned lecherous. He hadn't expected the Li family's eldest young lady to be so beautiful.
It seemed today was his lucky day.
