The Eleventh Year After My Death

Chapter 80

Shen Yihan lived quite far from the hospital.

By the time he arrived, Xie Guanyan had already been bandaged up.

Since the wound was deep, the doctor recommended staying for observation for a few days—just in case of infection, which would be easier to treat if it arose.

Xie Guanyan refused, insisting he didn’t need hospitalization and would call his private doctor if any issues came up.

Shen Yihan twisted the Buddhist beads around his right wrist with his left hand and advised, "Mr. Xie, work will never be finished. You should rest here at the hospital for a few days."

Xie Guanyan looked at him. "I’ll rest at home."

Shen Yihan didn’t dare press further. "Thank you for protecting my sister."

Xie Guanyan shook his head with a gentle smile. "Your sister could have avoided it on her own."

Shen Yihan paused, momentarily stunned.

He had assumed Xie Guanyan was playing the hero today, but it turned out he was more of an unnecessary savior.

He glanced at his sister, unsure if she even appreciated the gesture.

Lin Mo, however, did.

She had been studying Xie Guanyan’s expression and realized he genuinely meant what he said.

This man seemed to effortlessly consider things from others’ perspectives.

She smiled. "Even if I could’ve avoided it, your willingness to help is still worth thanking."

"Let’s go. We should head to the police station to give our statements."

Her fourth brother had already called—the police had pulled surveillance footage from outside the restaurant and needed them to cooperate with the investigation.

Once outside, Lin Mo scanned the area for the burly man who had helped earlier but couldn’t find him.

Turns out, he was a genuinely kind stranger who didn’t stick around for recognition.

Lin Mo mentally apologized for assuming he had a crush on Xie Guanyan.

In the car, Xie Guanyan sat in the passenger seat while Lin Mo and Auntie Zhen took the back.

Shen Yihan, driving for the first time with such an important figure, was a little nervous—both hands on the wheel, perfectly obedient.

Lin Mo looked at Auntie Zhen and suddenly realized:

This trip to the police station might also help Auntie Zhen reunite with her family.

After all these years, they must miss her terribly.

Her health had improved enough that she could be discharged.

Lin Mo asked, "Auntie Zhen, do you want to find your family?"

Auntie Zhen’s eyes were firm. "Yes. I want to find Xiao An."

Lin Mo fell silent for a few seconds before wrapping an arm around Auntie Zhen’s shoulders.

In Auntie Zhen’s mind, Xiao An was her only family now.

At the police station:

The other helpful stranger had already left.

The scarred man was badly injured and taken to the hospital next to the station.

Still unconscious, some details would have to wait until he woke up.

Xie Guanyan’s assistant, Jin Yang, had arrived earlier after receiving his call.

He brought along the best lawyer in Beijing.

The group recounted what had happened.

Shen Ji’an also explained the man’s identity and the human trafficking situation.

The officer looked at Shen Ji’an with admiration. "You’re the first person we’ve met who escaped trafficking and even brought another victim with you. Impressive, young man!"

Shen Yihan listened, his expression darkening as he kept twisting the beads on his wrist.

His sister and fourth brother had never told him any of this!

His brother had suffered far more than he’d imagined.

The police assured them they’d investigate the trafficking case, starting with this man.

By the time they finished giving statements, it was already late.

Shen Yihan’s throat felt dry as he stared at his brother.

Lin Mo patted his shoulder. "It’s all in the past. If you’re really upset, just transfer two million to his account—he’ll be thrilled. Oh, and send some my way too."

Her bright, peach-blossom eyes sparkled with mischief, easing some of the heaviness in Shen Yihan’s heart.

From now on, their family would be just fine.

Lin Mo rode with Shen Yihan, while Auntie Zhen and Shen Ji’an sat in the back.

Xie Guanyan took his assistant’s car—the understated silver Alpha.

Jin Yang, now briefed on what happened, glanced at his boss’s injured arm. "Mr. Xie, will you be going to the office these next few days?"

Xie Guanyan watched the rearview mirror, his gaze lingering on the passenger seat of the car behind them. "No. I’ll work from home."

Jin Yang nodded. "Got it. I’ll come by the villa tomorrow morning. By the way… is that girl really Shen Yihan’s sister?"

Damn it all—he’d thought his boss was trying to be the other man!

But the girl looked way too young to be Shen Yihan’s sister.

"Yes," Xie Guanyan replied flatly.

When the cars stopped at the villa’s entrance, the girl stepped out of the second car and walked into the villa alongside his boss.

Jin Yang’s jaw dropped.

Well, well—boss had been secretly dating her and they were already living together!

Not the other man at all. She was the main love interest!

Shen Ji’an had assumed his sister was staying at their second brother’s place and that Xie Guanyan was just giving her a ride back there.

He never expected Xie Guanyan to have moved into their old family villa—with Lin Mo living there too.

"Second Brother, this…"

Shen Yihan twisted his beads again. "Mr. Xie bought this villa. Sister has sleep issues and can only rest in familiar rooms, so he rented one to her. Don’t worry—he won’t do anything to her."

Shen Ji’an nodded.

He trusted Xie Guanyan completely.

No one had higher moral character than Mr. Xie!

Shen Yihan glanced at his younger brother behind him, whose long bangs obscured his expression.

The fourth brother was probably still uneasy.

He had been helping his sister find a good doctor to treat her sleep disorder.

But the most authoritative specialist had recently gone abroad for a research program.

So the matter had been delayed.

Once that doctor returned, he would schedule an appointment for his sister right away.

He wanted her to be free—to go wherever she pleased and sleep wherever she wished.

It was already midnight.

This was the first time the two of them had returned home together so late.

The lights in the villa were still on—the butler hadn’t clocked out yet.

He wouldn’t leave until his employer returned; it was his work ethic.

“Good heavens! Sir, what happened to your hand?” the butler exclaimed in shock.

“It’s nothing serious. You can head home,” Xie Guanyan replied.

The butler’s eyes flickered. “Miss Lin, please take good care of our sir tonight.”

Lin Mo nodded. “I will.”

Even if he hadn’t said anything, she wouldn’t have stood by idly.

After all, he had gotten hurt because of her.

It was late, and time to wash up and sleep.

But—

“The doctor said your hand can’t get wet. How will you shower?” Lin Mo frowned.
