Shu Yu kept glancing at the door from time to time.
Mommy said she was bringing Brother Xiaoheng home today.
Shu Yu waited for a very long time.
Finally, she heard the door, and Shu Yu ran toward it.
The moment she saw Ji Fei and Si Yiheng, Shu Yu pounced and wrapped her arms around Ji Fei's legs. "Thank you, Mommy!"
She and Mommy were both good people who rescued dogs.
Ji Fei's heart melted once again because of her youngest daughter.
There was truly no way not to spoil her.
Her baby was practically a little angel.
Si Yiheng was a bit shy. "Hello, little sister."
Shu Yu then took Si Yiheng's hand. "Hello, big brother."
When Song Wenzhao came home and saw Si Yiheng sitting with Shu Yu, looking at picture books together, the young boy's heart nearly caved in.
But he could only keep a straight face and grunt a reply when Si Yiheng called him "big brother."
That evening, Song Wenzhao finally couldn't hold it in anymore.
He called Song Xuyan and asked why he was so cruel, why he had found his adorable little sister a new brother.
Why was his sister no longer just his sister?
Song Xuyan: "..."
Song Xuyan spoke calmly. "Song Dabao, show some self-respect."
"You and Little Treasure share blood. Si Yiheng and Little Treasure share no blood."
"Si Yiheng is ultimately an outsider."
Song Xuyan had brought the boy into the house, sure.
But Song Xuyan never considered that little wolf cub Si Yiheng to be family.
Song Xuyan: "Song Dabao, you can't let your guard down. You need to grow up fast, so you can protect your sister. Si Yiheng has too many tricks up his sleeve. You better take good care of your precious baby sister."
After listening to his lousy dad's words, Song Wenzhao lost all interest in dwelling on his own gain and loss.
He needed to guard against Si Yiheng.
After dinner, Si Yiheng took Shu Yu's hand. "Little sister, I'll take you to wash your hands."
Shu Yu: "Mm-hmm."
Song Wenzhao: "I'll take Baby Yu. You don't need to go."
Si Yiheng pressed his lips together. In the end, Song Wenzhao was Yu Bao's real brother. As for him, his claim of being "brother" wasn't legitimate.
Si Yiheng stood still and didn't dare fight Song Wenzhao for it.
Shu Yu observed their expressions for a moment, then stretched out both her little hands.
"I have two hands, you know."
Song Wenzhao: "Mm-hmm, of course, everyone has two hands."
Shu Yu blinked. "So Big Brother washes one, and Brother Heng washes the other. That way it's fair for everyone."
Song Wenzhao: ∑(mouth||
Si Yiheng: (ᗜ֊ᗜ)
During her days at home, no matter what Shu Yu did, Si Yiheng would help.
Ji Fei was almost dizzy watching him. She had brought Si Yiheng home to raise as a child.
Not to hire him as a babysitter.
Every time Shu Yu took a bite of food, Si Yiheng would wipe her mouth.
Finally, Shu Yu's school enrollment was settled, and she started going to school.
Ji Fei relaxed a little. Now Si Yiheng wouldn't be chasing after her to take care of her anymore.
But Si Yiheng still thought about Shu Yu at school. During the big break, he would go to the kindergarten section, peek at Shu Yu from the doorway, and head back when class was about to start.
Because they saw Si Yiheng so often, all the teachers knew Shu Yu was Si Yiheng's little sister.
When they saw Si Yiheng, they would ask, "Coming to see your little sister again?"
Si Yiheng always nodded with a cold little face.
Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, Shu Yu was in her first year of high school.
When she heard the wake-up alarm, Shu Yu pulled the covers over her head.
It was the ten-thousand-and-eighty-sixth time Shu Yu wondered why humans had to go to school at all.
Just five more minutes!
When the five minutes were up, the alarm didn't ring, but a knock at the door did.
A clear, cool voice came from outside. "Little sister, five minutes are up. Time to get up."
Only then did Shu Yu pull herself out of bed, wash up, change, and put on her shoes.
Si Yiheng handed Shu Yu a carton of milk, took her schoolbag, and said, "Let's go."
Shu Yu grabbed the corner of Si Yiheng's clothes. "Mm-hmm."
The walk to school only took five minutes, and they went on foot.
Just as they were about to reach the school gate, Shu Yu suddenly remembered she'd forgotten her hair tie.
The school Shu Yu and Si Yiheng attended was relatively relaxed about rules—it didn't enforce any dress code on students.
But when she was doing practice problems, Shu Yu liked to tie her hair back.
Shu Yu drooped her head.
Seeing her like that, Si Yiheng's eyes flickered. "What's wrong?"
Shu Yu took Si Yiheng's hand and made him rub her fluffy head, tilting up her porcelain-white face like an adorable, frazzled little puppy.
Si Yiheng only felt the softness against his palm, and that softness reached all the way down to the bottom of his heart.
Si Yiheng: "I brought one for you."
Si Yiheng raised his hand, revealing well-proportioned fingers with clearly defined veins. On his wrist was Shu Yu's hair tie.
Shu Yu looked pleasantly surprised. "Brother, how did you remember to bring my hair tie?"
Si Yiheng rolled up Shu Yu's sleeve, held her slender wrist gently, and slid the hair tie onto it. His cool voice was like jade striking stone.
"Because I saw that you forgot."
Shu Yu laughed. "Having a big brother means I never have to worry."
Si Yiheng would help her with everything.
A smile tugged at the corner of Si Yiheng's lips. "Mm. You never have to worry."
When they reached the building where Shu Yu had classes, Si Yiheng finally handed her the schoolbag. "Don't zone out in class. Listen carefully. After school, I'll wait for you at the usual spot."
Shu Yu nodded dismissively. "Mm-hmm, okay."
Si Yiheng watched Shu Yu's back as she walked away, then finally headed to the senior-year classroom.
Still in the hallway, Xiao Jun hooked an arm around Si Yiheng's shoulders from behind. "Brother Heng, delivering your little sister to school again?"
Si Yiheng: "Mm."
Xiao Jun: "You sure are a dutiful Child Groom."
