Shu Yu: “!!!”
Shu Yu glanced at Little Orange beside her and decisively shifted the blame. “Little Orange is in your room. I’ll fish her out, otherwise, cat hair will be everywhere when you sleep tonight.”
Carrying Little Orange, Shu Yu walked toward Si Yiheng. “Gege, don’t you think it’s shedding season? Little Orange is like a dandelion, fur flying all over the place.”
Shu Yu kept chattering beside him, and Si Yiheng couldn’t think further.
He only restrainedly, almost imperceptibly, watched Shu Yu’s lips part and close as she spoke.
Si Yiheng: “It is shedding season. I’ll brush Little Orange later.”
Si Yiheng glanced at Little Orange, whose weight had skyrocketed. “Give Little Orange to me. I’ll hold her. You go wash your hands; we can eat.”
Shu Yu: “Okay.”
Only when Si Yiheng held Little Orange did he realize how much heavier she had gotten.
She was practically no different from a solid iron ball.
Si Yiheng shot Little Orange a look. “Did Baby Yu spoil you again?”
Little Orange meowed indignantly, her face practically screaming the word “unfilial.”
“Mi needs nutrition!”
“Human, do you even understand?”
“If you don’t get it, swap me back to Mom so she can talk to me.”
Si Yiheng’s expression turned cold, his voice calm. “You need to lose weight.”
At the dinner table, Si Yiheng told Shu Yu that Little Orange needed to slim down. Shu Yu secretly glanced at the disgruntled Little Orange—maybe a diet was necessary.
Kittens couldn’t get too fat.
Shu Yu nodded obediently. “Okay. Gege, will you feed Little Orange?”
Si Yiheng: “Yeah.”
If Shu Yu fed her, she couldn’t be firm. Little Orange would meow twice at Shu Yu, act cute and clingy, and Shu Yu would open a can of treats.
Si Yiheng: “Don’t give her snacks.”
Shu Yu: “I got it.”
Little Orange: “!!!”
“Dastardly Dad, tricking my softhearted Mom into cutting off my snacks.”
Si Yiheng didn’t rest much at home. He went to work the next day.
He occasionally checked the surveillance feed. In it, Shu Yu had gotten up, eaten breakfast, and spent the whole day at home reciting books.
She was obedient to a fault.
Si Yiheng sometimes felt like a pervert, only at ease when he confirmed Shu Yu was still there.
After reviewing a report, his assistant entered. “Young President Si, President Song wants to see you. Should I let him in?”
Si Yiheng initially didn’t want to meet Song Wenzhao, but now that the Ye Manzhen matter was resolved, he needed to figure out what Song Wenzhao was really up to.
Song Wenzhao always had ill intentions and lied. He had returned to the country long ago and even bought property in the same neighborhood where Shu Yu and Si Yiheng lived.
Yet at Grandfather’s birthday banquet, he pretended he had just arrived in the country.
Si Yiheng: “Take him to the meeting room.”
When Si Yiheng saw Song Wenzhao, the latter first pushed the paternity test report toward him.
Si Yiheng opened the file and, after seeing what it was, looked up at Song Wenzhao.
Once he read the results, he remained expressionless. “Why should I believe you? Paternity tests can be forged. Do you have any other evidence?”
Song Wenzhao almost laughed in anger.
No other evidence was needed—if Si Yiheng could just convince Shu Yu to do another mutually agreed paternity test, that would settle it.
He should have known: this dog of a man, Si Yiheng, was utterly unwilling to give his sister back to him.
A hint of sarcasm curled at the corner of Song Wenzhao’s mouth. “Shu Yu calls you Gege—doesn’t that feel good to hear?”
Song Wenzhao: “But I am Shu Yu’s real brother. Her biological brother.”
Si Yiheng’s eyes chilled instantly. “Whether Baby Yu is your sister or not, I’ll find out.”
His voice was calm. “When Baby Yu is willing, I’ll inform you to redo that paternity test you obtained through who knows what shady means.”
Song Wenzhao: “…”
Dog of a man, mocking him for not being close to Shu Yu, forcing him to use underhanded methods to get the results.
No wonder he hated Si Yiheng—the guy was a pro at sarcasm.
Si Yiheng lifted his gaze. “President Song, please see yourself out.”
Song Wenzhao stood up, looking down at Si Yiheng from a height. “Si Yiheng, once Baby Yu comes home with me, if she still wants to date, I’ll introduce her to men better than you.”
His butler chimed in: “Prepare to be the side piece.”
Si Yiheng: “…”
Si Yiheng’s already cold face darkened further.
He had his reasons for hating Song Wenzhao.
Before even reuniting with Shu Yu, Song Wenzhao had already stopped pretending.
Si Yiheng: “With that kind of domineering attitude, do you think Shu Yu would want a big brother like you?”
Even if Song Wenzhao was her biological brother, he’d only be a brother shared between him and Shu Yu.
Si Yiheng was still the one she called brother.
Song Wenzhao: “…”
Song Wenzhao: “Would Baby Yu want you, shameless and flimsy, instead of me?”
Si Yiheng: “…”
Si Yiheng called his assistant. “Show the guest out.”
Once Song Wenzhao had left, Si Yiheng made a phone call. He ordered an investigation into Shu Yu’s past—whether she was truly a child of the Song family and how her so-called vampire parents had stolen her.
He also had someone look into the Song family’s attitude toward this missing child.
After arranging everything, Si Yiheng stared at the paternity test results, unable to snap out of his daze for a long time.
Si Yiheng’s belief in so-called family bonds was minimal.
Especially when seventeen years of companionship had been missing.
In their social circle, there were plenty of so-called reclaimed children, but those people cared only for profit, not affection.
He would never let Shu Yu be hurt again by family, wounded all over.
Assistant Xiao Wang returned just before Si Yiheng was about to clock out.
Si Yiheng looked at the sealed phone. “So this is how you conducted the investigation?”
Assistant Xiao Wang started sweating. Was Young President Si implying his methods were shady?
Just as he was about to admit fault, he heard Si Yiheng say, “Go to finance and collect your quarterly bonus.”
Assistant Xiao Wang nearly floated away. A quarterly bonus—one hundred eighty-eight thousand!
From now on, he’d be Si Yiheng’s black glove, ready to do anything shameless Si Yiheng asked of him.
Si Yiheng opened Shen Qinghan’s WeChat.
He found the chat history between Shen Qinghan and Shu Yu.
From the start, it was apologies, and then Shen Qinghan began slandering Si Yiheng in front of Shu Yu.
In the beginning, Shu Yu hadn’t planned to break up with him, but because Shen Qinghan painted him as evil and wicked, Shu Yu wanted to end things.
She said she would break up with him within four months at most.
It wasn’t Shen Qinghan Photoshopping fake messages to pit them against each other.
Shu Yu had said it herself.
She would leave him.
And find someone who truly knew how to care for her.
