Lu Huainan looked at Ji Zhaoxi’s incredulous expression, and a trace of panic flashed through his eyes.
But he quickly composed himself. He felt that he hadn’t said anything wrong.
Frowning, he looked at Ji Zhaoxi and said seriously, “We’re doing an experiment, not livestreaming.”
Ji Zhaoxi fell silent. She felt that she really couldn’t understand what Lu Huainan was saying.
The senior students nearby exchanged baffled looks.
One of the senior sisters cleared her throat and said, “Um, Junior Brother, Junior Sister has a toothache from her wisdom tooth. She’s not trying to act cute.”
It was obviously a toothache. How had he somehow turned it into acting cute?
As soon as wisdom teeth were mentioned, another senior brother jumped in. “Exactly, exactly. Not everyone’s wisdom teeth are as well-behaved as mine.”
Lu Huainan listened silently as the senior students explained, then looked at Ji Zhaoxi, who was furious.
He awkwardly turned his gaze away. “Sorry, because I…”
“Not accepted!”
Ji Zhaoxi turned her head and continued with the experiment.
She had figured it out. Lu Huainan simply couldn’t stand her and was always looking for an excuse to pick on her.
He even disapproved when she covered her face.
Watching Ji Zhaoxi’s angry back, Lu Huainan looked like he wanted to say something but couldn’t. He stood there for a while with his head lowered, then went back to doing the experiment.
Everyone else in the lab watched the scene happily.
A little squabble like this every day was truly soothing.
Their supervisor sat at his desk, cheerfully sipping water from his thermos.
By the afternoon, Ji Zhaoxi was in too much pain to continue, so she asked their supervisor for leave and went to the hospital.
She should have had it pulled out back then…
By the time she dragged herself miserably to the hospital, she fell completely silent when she saw the person standing at the entrance.
The two of them stared at each other for a while, neither saying a word.
After Ji Zhaoxi registered, she got into the elevator. Lu Huainan followed her in.
When Ji Zhaoxi got off, Lu Huainan got off too.
Ji Zhaoxi frowned tightly as she looked at him, then stopped walking.
Was Lu Huainan following her?
Lu Huainan’s footsteps paused. He took out his registration slip and walked ahead.
Ji Zhaoxi watched his back suspiciously.
Lu Huainan hadn’t come to see a dentist earlier, and now he suddenly decided to come?
There were quite a few people waiting outside. Ji Zhaoxi and Lu Huainan stood in line, while the cries of children occasionally came from inside.
“You… came to have your wisdom tooth pulled?” Lu Huainan asked awkwardly.
Ji Zhaoxi pretended not to hear him.
Who knew whether Lu Huainan was talking to her or to a ghost?
Lu Huainan: “…”
He still found Ji Zhaoxi incredibly annoying.
The display soon called Lu Huainan’s name. Before Ji Zhaoxi could react, he suddenly sprang to his feet.
Everyone around them jumped, and Ji Zhaoxi stared at him in bewilderment.
Lu Huainan’s expression remained calm, but for some reason, she could detect a hint of pallor in his face.
“You’re getting your wisdom tooth pulled, Lu Huainan?” Ji Zhaoxi asked tentatively.
Lu Huainan gave a low hum.
Ji Zhaoxi’s eyes immediately lit up. “Then I’ll come in with you.”
She was determined to see how pathetic Lu Huainan would look later!
When Lu Huainan saw her excited expression, he suddenly regretted everything.
The moment he saw Ji Zhaoxi ask their supervisor for leave, he had immediately asked for leave too.
He suddenly felt that there might be something wrong with his brain.
Ji Zhaoxi followed Lu Huainan inside.
The dentist gave him a quick examination. Ji Zhaoxi watched intently from the side, and Lu Huainan couldn’t help glaring at her.
“Are you here to have a wisdom tooth pulled? It’s growing quite straight,” the dentist said simply. “Get an X-ray first. Has it ever hurt?”
Lu Huainan shook his head, his ears turning slightly red.
He really must have been crazy. First, he had followed Ji Zhaoxi to the hospital. Then he had opened his mouth in front of her and let the dentist examine his teeth.
It was so embarrassing…
Seeing his reddening ears, Ji Zhaoxi couldn’t help laughing.
So Lu Huainan could get embarrassed after all.
Sure enough, no one could maintain their dignity at the dentist.
Lu Huainan took the form the dentist had written and went to get an X-ray, his eyes full of regret.
The dentist continued examining Ji Zhaoxi. “You can’t have it pulled right now. You’ll need to wait until the inflammation goes down.”
“Doctor, could you flush out the pocket around it? I’ve taken medicine, but it still hurts.” Ji Zhaoxi was in so much pain that she could barely form an expression.
All she wanted was for it to be over as quickly as possible—preferably before Lu Huainan came back.
The hospital was filled with the smell of disinfectant. Almost no one sitting outside the dental department was smiling. Everyone wore the same expression of utter despair.
Lu Huainan had just finished his X-ray and pushed open the door when—
“It hurts, it hurts, it hurts, it hurts…”
Ji Zhaoxi was crying so hard she could barely speak.
She should have had it pulled out sooner!
Lu Huainan’s hand paused on the doorknob, but he still walked in.
“It really hurts!”
The dentist was completely immune to scenes like this and remained perfectly calm. “Bear with it. It’ll be over soon. How many people come to the dentist without crying out?”
Through her tears and pain, Ji Zhaoxi vaguely caught sight of Lu Huainan.
Why was Lu Huainan back? This was so embarrassing!
He was definitely laughing at her.
She wouldn’t cry out again.
Unfortunately, her willpower still couldn’t withstand the pain of having the pocket flushed.
If it hurt, she had to scream.
The child outside heard her cries and immediately burst into tears. “Mommy, I don’t want to see the dentist! I’ll never eat candy again!”
The child’s mother replied calmly, “Why not? Eat plenty. Then you can come to the hospital a few more times.”
By the time Ji Zhaoxi got down from the chair, the pain had left her completely dazed.
The dentist tidied up and said briskly, “All right, young man. Lie down.”
“Actually, there’s no need for you to have this wisdom tooth pulled. But if you want it out, then go ahead.”
Lu Huainan fell silent for a moment.
Was it too late to say he didn’t want to have it pulled?
He looked at Ji Zhaoxi. She was covering her face with tears in her eyes, watching him expectantly.
From her expression, Lu Huainan understood exactly what she wanted to say.
Pull it.
Lu Huainan took a deep breath, lay back, and opened his mouth in front of the dentist—and Ji Zhaoxi.
Ji Zhaoxi stared at him with a solemn expression.
Lu Huainan opened his eyes and met her gaze. Ji Zhaoxi showed no intention of looking away. Instead, she moved even closer.
Lu Huainan: “…”
He really must have been sick in the head.
Why had he come to the hospital at all? Just because Ji Zhaoxi had come, he had to come too?
The dentist had already said there was no need to pull the tooth. Why had he gone out of his way to do it? Couldn’t he have gone to another hospital? Why did it have to be in front of Ji Zhaoxi?
And after getting her tooth flushed, shouldn’t she have left? How was she still here?
“We’re giving you the anesthetic now,” the dentist said.
Normally, other patients weren’t allowed to watch, but the dentist could tell that the two had come together. Although they hadn’t said much to each other, they clearly knew one another, so he didn’t ask Ji Zhaoxi to leave.
If they didn’t know each other, why would they be exchanging such meaningful glances?
Ji Zhaoxi’s tooth still throbbed faintly, but seeing Lu Huainan’s utterly miserable expression made her extremely happy.
Especially since Lu Huainan was trying so hard not to let her watch him—this only made her happier.
