Zhao Yinian’s current mood couldn’t be said to have anything to do with happiness. In fact, the two were completely unrelated.
Song Xinya was pregnant. What was there for her to be happy about—should she celebrate becoming a mother?
Besides, Song Xinya was carrying Qin Yuhe’s child. What reason did she have to be happy?
Zhao Yinian was so furious she could have ground her teeth to dust. She tried to put on an act and force a smile, but after working herself up for ages, she couldn’t squeeze out even the slightest grin.
Old Madam Qin said, “Nian-Nian, Grandma is about to have a great-grandchild of her own. You and Grandma are so close—aren’t you happy for me?”
Zhao Yinian clutched her stomach with both hands, her face twisted in pain. “Grandma, my stomach hurts. I have to go.”
The stomachache was fake, but the pain on her face was real.
Just thinking about Song Xinya sleeping with Qin Yuhe tonight and having his child made her heart ache as though it had been torn to pieces.
Like an ox stepping on a turtle’s shell—the pain was all in her heart.
Clutching her stomach, Zhao Yinian staggered toward the Qin family’s front gate.
Watching her retreating figure, Old Madam Qin murmured, “Just look at that child. Her stomach must hurt so badly it’s making her body spin.”
Zhao Yinian ran out the gate and saw Qin Yuhe carrying Song Xinya into the car.
In the instant before the door closed, through the narrow gap, Zhao Yinian saw Song Xinya straddling Qin Yuhe’s thighs. With her snow-white skin and red lips, she nestled softly in his arms, both hands wrapped around his neck. Her foxlike eyes were veiled in a misty tenderness, endless charm reflected in their depths. Her seductive allure seemed to sink into her very bones—she looked like a bewitching spirit.
One of Qin Yuhe’s arms circled her waist while his other hand supported the back of her head. He lowered his head intimately, their noses brushing against each other in an atmosphere thick with tenderness and affection.
A spasm twisted through Zhao Yinian’s abdomen. The stomachache she had been pretending to have became real.
The rear door of the Rolls-Royce slowly closed. Its one-way glass cut off Zhao Yinian’s view, and she could no longer see anything.
Song Xinya turned toward the window and saw Zhao Yinian’s face contorted in pain. The sight gave her immense satisfaction.
She normally did not sit on Qin Yuhe’s lap like this, because straddling him was an extremely suggestive position.
But today, the moment she got into the car, she hooked her arms around Qin Yuhe’s shoulders and spread her two long, jade-white legs.
She had deliberately chosen that posture to provoke Zhao Yinian.
And Zhao Yinian had fallen straight into her trap, her heart aching so badly she could barely breathe.
The corners of Song Xinya’s lips curled upward, her mood brightening.
With both hands braced on Qin Yuhe’s shoulders, she lifted her upper body and tried to draw one of her pale, slender legs back, intending to bring her legs together.
A broad, firm palm landed on her full thigh, its touch burning hot.
His fingers sank one by one into her smooth flesh, his grip forceful.
Qin Yuhe clamped both hands around her waist and pressed her down hard. Her body dropped from its upward movement, fitting tightly against him without the slightest gap.
“Throw me away as soon as you’ve gotten what you want,” Qin Yuhe said. “Do you take me for a disposable condom?”
Song Xinya: “...You seemed to enjoy it just now too.”
His fingers rubbed the soft flesh at her waist. “I want to enjoy it a little longer. Don’t get up.”
She was wearing a dress today. In that position, the skirt had bunched up, leaving only the thin fabric of her underwear between them.
The solid, tense feel of his thighs pressed clearly against her, hard as stone.
Song Xinya’s cheeks flushed. “If you keep sitting like this, you won’t be enjoying yourself anymore. You’ll be suffering.”
Qin Yuhe pulled her tightly into his arms and buried his face in the warmth of her neck. “I’m willing to suffer.”
He merely held her—quietly, firmly, possessively yet tenderly. He did nothing else.
For the past ten days, he had been caring for her emotional and mental well-being. Their intimate contact had been limited to kissing and embracing; he had never once asked her to have sex.
Ten days earlier, he had only intended to help wash the dirt from her body. But when he reached out to take off her clothes, she recoiled.
The movement seemed to have been etched into his mind, and he could still remember it vividly.
He had looked up a great deal of information. He had read that after experiencing something like that, a woman might develop an aversion to marital intimacy.
It took time to emerge from the shadows.
Through his actions, Qin Yuhe was trying to warm her, heal her, and wait for her.
After holding her in that face-to-face position for a while, he lifted her up and placed her on the seat beside him.
If he held her any longer, he would lose control.
He still wasn’t sure whether she would feel repulsed by his physical reaction. He was afraid of upsetting her or triggering unpleasant memories.
When Song Xinya turned to look out the window, an earbud was slipped into her ear.
She turned back and saw that Qin Yuhe had one in his ear as well.
The white wired earphones connected them, one end leading to her and the other to him. Their slender, flexible cord made them seem like a single unit.
Qin Yuhe raised his phone toward her. “Let’s listen to some music together.”
His strikingly beautiful face, almost dazzling in its brightness, was illuminated by the clear light outside the window. His smile was gentle and warm, soft as water.
Song Xinya smiled back at him. “Sure. Let’s listen together.”
Qin Yuhe played a soothing slow song. Its gentle melody flowed through the car, carrying a quiet, comforting warmth.
As she listened, Song Xinya leaned back and rested against his shoulder.
The sentimental song playing through the earphones.
The sunlight falling across her body.
His arm around her.
The shoulder he willingly let her lean on.
The car was quiet. Neither of them spoke, and there was no need to. Song Xinya simply felt the warmth and beauty Qin Yuhe was giving her.
The Rolls-Royce stopped at Purple Forbidden Palace.
As Song Xinya followed Qin Yuhe inside, his phone rang.
Old Madam Qin said, “Little He, you’re home, right?”
“We’re home.”
“In that case, if I call you now, will I be interrupting you and Yaya?”
“Interrupting us while we’re walking?”
Old Madam Qin’s voice dropped. “What’s there to interrupt about walking? I mean that.”
“So you’ve finally learned to be tactful. The sun must be rising in the west. How rare.”
Hearing that his voice was not even breathless and that he still had the leisure to banter with her, Old Madam Qin grew anxious and abandoned all subtlety.
“You still haven’t done it with Yaya?”
“Forget doing it. I haven’t even touched the edge of the bed.”
Old Madam Qin was so anxious she nearly stamped her feet. Her voice was full of exasperation. “I had eight bull penises stewed into soup for you, and you drank it for nothing! Are you even capable? If you’re not, don’t hide it—just say so. Grandma will find the best specialist in the country to treat you!”
Qin Yuhe pressed his fingers to his forehead. “We just got home. I can’t possibly have sex with my wife right at the front door.”
“Oh, right, you’ve only just arrived. Then never mind.”
“I’m hanging up. Don’t call again. I remember everything about preparing for pregnancy and having a child. You don’t need to keep reminding me. If I keep talking to you, then I really will be interrupting Yaya and me.”
Old Madam Qin happily replied, “All right, I’ll hang up. You and Yaya have a good time.”
Qin Yuhe put his phone back into his pocket and turned to look at Song Xinya.
The moment his eyes landed on her, Song Xinya felt as if an electric current had passed through her.
Qin Yuhe said something that seemed completely unrelated: “The astronomical observatory says there will be a meteor shower tonight.”
The tension in Song Xinya’s heart was replaced by surprise and delight. Her face filled with curiosity and joy.
“Really?”
“Really.”
Qin Yuhe gazed at her with warm, gentle eyes. “Yaya, would you like to go camping with me and watch a meteor shower beneath a sky full of stars?”
