Li Suhua was absolutely stunned by her sudden stunt.
Lin Jiajun, woken up from his sleep, came out only to see an old woman lying on the floor, howling like a banshee.
He immediately took out his phone. "Call for an ambulance! Mom, we need to get her to a hospital right now. A heart attack is no joke!
"Whatever happens, we can't let her die in my sister's house.
"Quick, let's drag her outside first."
Together, Li Suhua and Lin Jiajun started dragging Liu Xiulan toward the door.
Liu Xiulan was only faking it; she never expected them to actually call for an ambulance and talk about her dying.
She scrambled to her feet in a flash. "Don't push me! Nobody push me!
"I'm not sick. I just want to stay here. I have nowhere else to live."
Lin Wanyi finally understood what was going on. She shoved her right out the front door.
"Wang Hao and I are getting a divorce. Why on earth should I let you stay here?
"Get lost."
The door slammed shut, leaving Liu Xiulan standing there in a daze, clutching her luggage.
She hurriedly called Liu Chunlan. "Chunlan, didn't you say that out-of-town daughter-in-law of yours was a total pushover and completely obedient?
"How dare she kick me out?
"Get over here right now, or I really won't have a place to sleep."
Infuriated but helpless, Liu Chunlan could only say, "If there's really no other way, just go stay at a hotel for now, older sister.
"I'll go over there tomorrow and teach her a lesson for you."
"What hotel? Where would I get the money for a hotel?"
Liu Chunlan hadn't expected her to say that. "How could you not have money? Don't your son and daughter-in-law give you eight thousand a month for your pension?"
Liu Xiulan nearly burst into tears.
What eight thousand? She had just been bragging.
In reality, she had spent the last few years looking after her grandson, pouring in both her money and her energy, yet her daughter-in-law hadn't given her a single dime.
Over the years, her meager savings had been completely drained. Now that her daughter-in-law saw she was out of money, she moved her own mother in and kicked Liu Xiulan out.
They hadn't given her a penny.
She truly had nowhere to go now.
She had originally planned to come back and rely on Liu Chunlan, hearing that her out-of-town daughter-in-law was easy to bully. But things hadn't turned out that way at all.
It was nothing like what Liu Chunlan had said.
Standing outside the door, cold and hungry, she stomped her feet in anxiety.
But Lin Wanyi simply refused to open the door.
Out of options, Liu Chunlan made Wang Hao send a message to Lin Wanyi:
"Honey, that's my aunt. She doesn't have any relatives in the city, so just let her stay for a few days."
Lin Wanyi replied with only a few words: "Then come back and get a divorce."
Wang Hao pretended not to see that and sent another text: "She's an elder, no matter what. You can't just lock her outside. People will gossip if they see."
Lin Wanyi replied again: "Come back and get a divorce."
Wang Hao was so frustrated he lost all his temper.
He nearly threw his phone. "Divorce, divorce! Is there nothing else in her head besides divorce?"
Little did he know, in Lin Wanyi's mind right now, getting a divorce was indeed the only thing that mattered.
She discussed her plans with Li Suhua. "Mom, tomorrow you and Jiajun should take Keke and head back first.
"I'll stay behind and deal with Wang Hao.
"I have some money on hand now, so I'm not afraid to wait him out."
Li Suhua disagreed. "They're bullying you this much even while we're here. How could we possibly leave?
"Besides, you're still pregnant. Wanyi, I don't think Wang Hao is going to agree to a divorce anytime soon.
"If it comes down to it, let's all go back first. We'll get Keke settled in, and once she starts school there, you can come back with me and get rid of the baby.
"It will be easier for me to take care of you over there. What do you say?"
Lin Jiajun also thought this was the best arrangement, and he chimed in to persuade Lin Wanyi:
"Wang Hao is clearly dragging this out on purpose. Sis, let him drag it out. Let's go take care of the baby first.
"Recover your health, and then we'll fight a war of attrition with him. If worst comes to worst, we'll sue. From now on, I'll come with you every single time.
"I refuse to believe we can't get this divorce finalized!"
Lin Wanyi took his words to heart.
He was right.
Both her mother and brother were right.
She had been too stubborn, obsessed only with getting the divorce, but she had forgotten that it wasn't that easy.
Divorce wasn't that simple.
She had also forgotten that no one in the Wang family was any good; they wouldn't let her go so easily.
Thinking of this, she immediately took out her phone and started looking for train tickets.
But during the Spring Festival travel rush, buying train tickets for a family of four was as hard as ascending to heaven.
Lin Jiajun said, "Buy plane tickets, Sis. If we have to spend a little more, I'll pay for it.
"As long as we can leave quickly, the cost doesn't matter."
Lin Wanyi started looking at flights.
She wanted to leave, right now!
After browsing, she saw the earliest available flights were for the next day. Without hesitation, she bought tickets for all four of them.
She should have left a long time ago.
She thought to herself, why was she so stupid? She should have gone back first.
But then she reconsidered—Wang Hao had been following her around before, so it wouldn't have been that easy to get away.
Now was the perfect opportunity.
After booking the flights, she called the real estate agent, but the agent told her:
"The market for selling houses isn't good right now, especially right after the new year.
"Sis, if you're in a hurry to sell, we'll have to offer a steep discount."
Surprisingly, Lin Wanyi wasn't in a rush anymore. If he wanted to drag it out, then let him drag it out.
Now that her departure was settled, Lin Wanyi felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders.
She started packing her things.
However, Liu Xiulan was actually still outside pounding on the door.
Extremely annoyed, Lin Wanyi directly called the police.
When the police officers arrived, Liu Xiulan tugged at their uniforms and wailed:
"Officers, you have to stand up for me! This is my eldest nephew's house, and he agreed to let me stay here, but his wife is kicking me out.
"Officers, I'm just an old woman with a bunch of health problems. How can they be so cold-hearted and throw me out?"
The police officer asked Lin Wanyi, "Did you call the police? What exactly is going on?"
Lin Wanyi told them the truth. The officers were left speechless and proceeded to lecture Liu Xiulan:
"Ma'am, this is someone else's house. They can decide who gets to live here. If the owner doesn't agree, you can't just force your way in."
Liu Xiulan was indignant. "What do you mean? My nephew already agreed!
"Why don't you agree?"
Lin Jiajun glared at her. "Because the house doesn't belong solely to your nephew. Get lost, old woman."
Liu Xiulan was finally taken away by the police. Lin Wanyi immediately changed the passcode to the house.
Since she was leaving, she didn't want anyone else coming in, including Wang Hao.
Although it was a bit of self-deception, she had to do something to feel better, otherwise the frustration would suffocate her.
Meanwhile, Wang Hao was feeling restless at home.
He kept thinking about his son and the baby in Lin Wanyi's belly.
He smoked all night. As soon as dawn broke and he saw the snow had stopped, he got ready to head to town to catch a bus back to the city.
Liu Chunlan grabbed her bag and went out with him. In town, they ran into Wang Meijuan.
She had Li Borui in tow, claiming they were heading to the city to look at schools.
Wang Hao was in no mood to deal with her; his mind was entirely occupied by Lin Wanyi and his son.
They had barely stepped into the car when Liu Renzhi managed to track down Lin Wanyi's address. Just as he was leading the Liu family out the door to find her, Lin Wanyi was holding Wang Keke's hand, getting ready to head to the airport. Three groups of people, taking three different paths, each bound for their own destination...
