Late at Night: The Next Door Senior Locked in the Secret Room for a Kiss

Chapter 7

The temple gate was tightly shut, its surface carved with mysterious runes that exuded an aura of danger and mystique, as if warning us to stay away.

Senior hesitated for a moment, a flicker of resolve flashing in his eyes, before reaching out to push the door open. The creak of the hinges pierced the silence, and the musty air inside, dimly lit, made it hard to discern the surroundings.

We stepped in cautiously, every movement laced with vigilance. At the center stood a towering statue of a deity, its features indistinct yet radiating an oppressive presence, as though silently judging us—unwelcome intruders. Its icy gaze sent chills down my spine.

Suddenly, the statue’s eyes glowed with an eerie light, and a voice echoed in our minds: "Why have you trespassed here?" The words were cold and commanding, like a winter gale, tightening my chest and stealing my breath.

Senior steadied himself, taking a deep breath before replying, "We mean no offense. We’re only searching for a way out." Though his voice was calm, I could hear the tension beneath.

The statue let out a mocking laugh. "A way out? There is none here—only endless trials." As the words faded, flames erupted around us, engulfing the temple in a searing inferno that threatened to consume us whole.

"Senior!" I trembled as I pressed closer to him, my body shaking like a leaf in a storm.

"Don’t be afraid. We’ll find a way," he reassured me, pulling me tightly into his embrace. I could feel his heartbeat, as frantic as my own. In his arms, I found the only warmth that momentarily dulled the terror around us.

Just as despair threatened to overtake us, Senior spotted an ancient, weathered book at the statue’s base. He snatched it up, flipping through the pages with intense focus, his brow furrowed. Gradually, a glimmer of hope lit his expression.

"I think I’ve found a way to break this," he said, his eyes alight like stars in the darkness, rekindling my hope.

According to the book, we needed to locate four mystical artifacts and place them at the temple’s four corners to extinguish the flames.

And so, our frantic search began. Along the way, we faced traps and obstacles—deadly mechanisms that shot arrows from the shadows, with Senior shielding me every time, taking the brunt of the danger.

There were also illusory mazes that left us disoriented and exhausted. Each time I teetered on the edge of despair, Senior would squeeze my hand and whisper, "Trust me. We’ll make it out." His voice, echoing through the labyrinth, gave me the strength to press on.

Through his wisdom and our unspoken bond, we eventually found three of the artifacts.

But the fourth remained elusive. Time slipped away as the flames grew fiercer, the heat sapping our strength, leaving us drenched in sweat and on the verge of collapse.

Just as hope seemed lost, I glanced up and spotted a glimmer atop a beam. Senior followed my gaze, determination hardening his expression. "Wait here," he told me before climbing, each movement a struggle, his clothes soaked with effort. Yet he never gave up—and finally, he retrieved the fourth artifact.

We placed them swiftly in their designated spots, and the flames gradually died down. Relief washed over us as we collapsed to the ground, locking eyes in shared gratitude for our survival.

But our respite was short-lived. A deep, guttural growl echoed from the temple’s depths, and a monstrous shadow emerged—a terrifying beast unlike anything we’d ever seen. Its massive frame shook the ground with every step, like an approaching earthquake.

"Senior…" I clutched his hand, fear surging anew.

He stood, shielding me. "Stay behind me," he said firmly, his voice steadying me.

The beast lunged, jaws agape. Senior dodged with me in tow, searching for an opening. In a desperate maneuver, he stumbled, but I yanked him up. "Together!" I cried.

Then, Senior spotted its weakness. Hand in hand, we charged, striking the fatal blow in perfect sync.

The beast collapsed with a thunderous crash, kicking up dust. Gasping for air, we sank to the ground once more.

Turning to me, Senior’s eyes softened with emotion. "I couldn’t have done this without you."

Tears welled as I smiled. "Senior, let’s never be apart."

He pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead. "Never," he murmured, the promise unwavering.

After catching our breath, we helped each other up. Senior scanned our surroundings. "We need to leave. Now."

I nodded, staying close.

Outside, the wind had eased, but darkness still loomed. Senior gripped my hand tightly. "No matter what lies ahead, I won’t let anything hurt you."

My heart swelled with trust. "I believe in you."

Then, the mysterious force seized us again, pulling us into another dim hall shrouded in eerie mist.

Senior held me close, scanning the haze. A voice, deep and foreboding, boomed: "Why have you come?"

I shuddered, burrowing deeper into his arms. But Senior only tightened his embrace, shouting back, "We mean no harm. We’re lost in the dark."

A sinister chuckle rang out as a gaunt figure materialized—an old man with eyes gleaming with cryptic malice.

"Since you’re here," he hissed, "you won’t leave so easily."

Senior stepped forward, shielding me. "Try to stop us," he challenged, his stance unyielding.
