Following in My Mother’s Footsteps: Working as a Nanny for a Wealthy Family

Chapter 148

Live here?

Jiang Mo looked at him sideways, stammering a bit, "Th-this isn't really appropriate, is it?"

"What's inappropriate about it?" Gu Ye retorted.

Jiang Mo pressed her lips together, her hands and feet feeling awkward. "Isn't it a bit too fast?"

"What are you thinking about? There are plenty of rooms here, you can pick any one," Gu Ye teased her. "Of course, if you want to share a room with me, I wouldn't mind."

Jiang Mo grabbed a cushion from the sofa and threw it at him, her face flushing. "You're so childish."

She admitted her mind had gone to the wrong place, thinking he wanted them to be completely open with each other.

Actually, she wasn't entirely wrong. Gu Ye did want that, but after testing the waters, he wondered if it was a bit too hasty.

He figured if she moved in first, everything else would follow naturally.

He caught the cushion. "Just think about it. It's closer to your office than your home, more spacious, with a better view."

Jiang Mo didn't agree immediately. "Let me think about it."

Gu Ye nodded. "Okay, tell me once you've decided. I'll help you move."

After driving her home, Gu Ye wanted to walk her upstairs, but Jiang Mo shook her head. "Better not, in case my dad sees you again."

"Alright, I'll wait until you're inside before I leave," Gu Ye said, standing by the car. He waited until she entered the residential complex before preparing to drive off.

As he turned around, a dark little lump was at his feet, and he almost stepped on it.

"Meow~" the dark lump let out a sweet sound.

Gu Ye crouched down for a closer look. It was a very tiny kitten, pure black all over but with white paws.

He looked around. No people, no mother cat.

"Little one, how did you end up here?" Gu Ye asked, pulling out his phone to take a video.

The little lump didn't answer, just kept meowing and snuggling up to his feet.

Gu Ye picked it up by the scruff of its neck. It was quite a pretty little cat, and he started thinking about adopting it.

"Come on, let's go live the good life with your dad. Your dad has a big house. Help your old man out a bit, help get your mom to move in sooner."

Thinking it was a case of 'you snooze, you lose,' he carried the kitten and put it in the car.

Just after the car drove away, a large cat darted out, looking left and right as if to say, where's my baby?

After her shower, Jiang Mo received the kitten photos from Gu Ye.

"Where did that kitty come from?"

"Just picked it up as a stray near your place. It clung to my pant leg and wouldn't let go, so I brought it home."

Jiang Mo rubbed her hands together. "It looks really cute. I've never raised such a young kitten before. Look up some guides online."

Gu Ye: "You should give our little cat a name."

"Maomao?" Jiang Mo suggested. "How's that?"

"Sounds good. That's the name then," Gu Ye said, stroking Maomao's head. "Little one, when your mom comes to see you later, you better cling to her and help me convince her to stay, okay?"

The kitten meowed once, as if answering that it understood.

As for Gu Ye's suggestion about moving out to live together, Jiang Mo thought it over. Actually, living at home was quite convenient, and her parents probably wouldn't agree.

Sure enough, when she casually mentioned it, Li Daming objected. "You live perfectly well at home. You lack for nothing. What do you want to move out for? You'd have to pay rent. You have a car, so commuting is convenient enough."

He then posted about it in the family group chat.

Wang Xia: "Sweetie, you want to move out?"

"No, I was just saying it casually," Jiang Mo mumbled.

Li Zheng, feeling he had seen through the truth, chimed in, "Maybe my sister has a sweetheart out there. They probably want to fly off together and live in their own love nest."
