Following in My Mother’s Footsteps: Working as a Nanny for a Wealthy Family

Chapter 140

Taking Gu Xun's things, Gu Ye felt not a shred of burden or hesitation, his hands were anything but soft.

After the two finished eating, they patted their bottoms and left without a trace of nostalgia.

Once in the car, Jiang Mo glanced at the takeout bags. "We're kind of like those who take advantage of a fire to loot."

"Who told our big brother here is loaded," Gu Ye started the car. "This meal was totally worth his money. You and I are the MVPs. Otherwise, who knows how long those two would've been stuck in their misunderstanding? Neither of them knows how to use their words. We gave their relationship a major boost."

"He should be thanking us."

"You know, when you put it that way, it does sound pretty reasonable," Jiang Mo looked at him. "You were acting a bit cocky in front of Young Master Gu today. And you talk about him, but you weren't much better before."

"I was throwing winks your way before, and you never caught them," Gu Ye accused.

Jiang Mo flushed. She could be a bit oblivious sometimes, especially when it came to matters of romance between men and women.

"Really?" Jiang Mo chuckled. "Then your winks definitely weren't big enough."

"Next time I throw one, I'll try to open my eyes wider," Gu Ye promised, then reminded her, "About that business matter our brother mentioned, contact Shen-ge tomorrow. If there are resources and performance to be had, we take them."

Worried that Jiang Mo might be too shy to ask, he specifically reminded him.

"Got it," Jiang Mo sighed, feeling the meal had been incredibly fruitful.

When they reached the residential complex, Gu Ye parked, got out, and handed her the dessert bag. "You have work tomorrow. I'll come pick you up."

"No need, have you forgotten? I'm a car owner," Jiang Mo waved her hand. "You head back. I'm going up."

Jiang Mo hummed a tune as she entered the house, changed into slippers, and walked into the living room. "Dad, you're back."

Li Daming was lying on the sofa scrolling through Douyin. He paused the video seeing his daughter. "Where did you go?"

"Not really anywhere special, just hanging out, having a meal," Jiang Mo moved some things on the coffee table to make space for the bag. "I brought back some desserts. Want some?"

Then she shouted towards Li Zheng's room, "Little brother, come out for snacks!"

Li Daming opened the bag to inspect. "These desserts look quite fancy. Let your father taste them."

Hearing there was food, Li Zheng darted out of his room, looking slightly disappointed. "Oh, it's dessert."

Jiang Mo plopped onto the sofa. "I bring you food and you're picky? Fine, don't eat any. I'll have two more."

"I didn't say I wouldn't eat it," Li Zheng quickly put on a smile.

Li Daming sampled a few bites. "You young people really know how to eat. Your mom and I would never buy these fancy, flashy things to eat."

He then asked casually, "Did you go out with that university classmate of yours who's a nanny today?"

"No, a high school classmate," Jiang Mo replied, not yet ready to let her family know about her relationship with Gu Ye.

Firstly, she had just changed jobs and her work wasn't stable yet.

Secondly, she wasn't sure how her parents would view her and Gu Ye.

"High school classmate? Could be a guy," Li Zheng chimed in cheerfully.

Now that these two were dating, they didn't include him anymore, even though the three of them used to hang out together.

"A boy?" Li Daming perked up with interest. "Is it a boy who likes you?"

"Dad, don't listen to my brother's nonsense," Jiang Mo glared at her little brother. He eats her food and still causes trouble? Asking for a spanking, is he?

"I find what your brother says usually has some truth to it," Li Daming said. You two siblings playing guessing games with me?

"My brother saw wrong. That classmate of mine has short hair, like a tomboy. Right, little brother?"

"Oh, maybe I did see wrong," picking up on his sister's signal, Li Zheng quickly backed down.

It was okay to tease his older sister, but one had to know when to stop. That was his survival strategy as the younger brother.

With the hope of a high school classmate dashed, Li Daming remembered another matter. "So, what about that university senior of yours? He seemed very nice to me, good-looking, and his profession sounds great."

"Ugh, Dad, please don't worry about this," Jiang Mo pouted.

Li Zheng grinned mischievously, scooching closer to Li Daming on the sofa. "So, Dad, what do you think of the two sons from the Gu family?"

Li Daming turned this sentence over in his head once, then looked at Jiang Mo. "Daughter, your ambitions are that high?!"

Jiang Mo: ...Uh...

Taking a deep breath, Jiang Mo stood up and attacked Li Zheng with a cushion.

Li Zheng dodged left and right. "I was just saying it casually!"

Watching the siblings roughhouse, Li Daming was already used to it.

When Jiang Mo stopped, she said, "Dad, don't pay attention to my brother. I start my new job tomorrow, need to get there early. I'm going to wash up."

Early the next morning, Jiang Mo put on an outfit that looked capable and energetic, applied light makeup, and left for work.

She arrived at the office twenty minutes early, but surprisingly, Li Canxia was already there.

Li Canxia was drinking coffee in the pantry. "You're quite early."

"Afraid of traffic making me late," Jiang Mo said, holding a bag with eggs, soy milk, and steamed buns. "Attorney Li, want some breakfast?"

"No thanks, take your time. Go with HR later to complete the onboarding procedures," Li Canxia smiled. "Happy first day."
