From Li Wan'er, Jiang Mo obtained the contact information of the other party, though it was still through a couple of indirect connections.
After adding the person, she learned they were quite busy and was told to bring her resume to the company for an interview if she was interested.
Jiang Mo thought it over, set a date, and decided to go and learn more about the opportunity.
She adjusted and updated her old resume, asked Su Yunjin for some time off, and headed to the address she was given.
The office building was in a great location—directly accessible by subway, just a short walk from the exit.
Stepping out of the elevator, she checked the sign: "Stellar Law Firm." This was the place.
"Hello, I have an appointment with Attorney Li for an interview," Jiang Mo explained to the receptionist.
The young woman at the front desk looked up and was momentarily struck—what a stunning young lady.
"Of course, please wait a moment," the receptionist replied, her demeanor bright and earnest, seeming fresh out of school herself.
She hurried down the hallway to the office and returned shortly after. "You can go in now."
Taking a deep breath, Jiang Mo knocked on the office door and entered.
Inside, a poised woman in her forties was on the phone. Noticing Jiang Mo, she slightly moved the phone away from her ear and said, "Have a seat first."
Then she continued her call.
Jiang Mo sat on the nearby sofa and caught snippets of the conversation—it sounded like a client consultation.
After about seven or eight minutes, the call finally ended.
"Apologies for the wait—client matters," Li Canxia said, setting her phone down. "You were referred by my nephew's classmate, right? Also a law student?"
Jiang Mo stood and approached the desk, sitting across from Li Canxia as she handed over her prepared resume. "Yes, Attorney Li. I graduated from A University's law program."
"Good school—must be quite the academic," Li Canxia remarked with a smile, taking the resume and reviewing it carefully.
Noticing Jiang Mo's prior internship at a law firm, she asked, "Could you share why you left your last job and what you're currently doing?"
"My supervisor at the last job sexually harassed me, so I resigned. Right now, I'm working as a nanny," Jiang Mo answered succinctly.
Li Canxia studied her briefly but didn't seem particularly surprised. "With looks like yours, it’s no surprise you’d attract some trashy people."
"Why take up nannying? Starting over as a junior lawyer won’t pay as well," she probed.
"It just happened by chance," Jiang Mo nodded. "I’m aware of the pay difference."
Li Canxia then asked, "Are you local? What do your parents do?"
"Yes, I’m local. My parents are... a driver and a nanny."
At that, Li Canxia raised an eyebrow and smiled. Though faint lines framed her eyes, her elegance and presence remained undiminished.
She seemed to understand now why Jiang Mo had taken the nanny job.
The two discussed legal cases for a while, testing Jiang Mo’s professional knowledge.
The conversation lasted nearly forty minutes.
Once it wrapped up, Li Canxia cut straight to the chase. "Come work as my assistant. Think it over and let me know your decision."
That was quick—an on-the-spot offer, not the usual "we’ll get back to you."
As if sensing Jiang Mo’s surprise, Li Canxia added, "Call it fate. I took a liking to you—I appreciate clever young people."
Jiang Mo replied, "Would it be possible to give me a few days to consider before I give you an answer?"
Li Canxia replied, "Of course, you can."
As they stepped out of the building, Jiang Mo's face was beaming with joy. She quickly sent a message in the family group chat: "Ladies and gentlemen, folks and fellow villagers, I have a big announcement to make."
Li Zheng, who happened to be free, was the first to respond, "What's up, sis?"
Jiang Mo typed excitedly, "I went for an interview at a law firm today—and I got the job!"
Li Zheng replied in surprise, "What? You got hired as a lawyer? You're quitting your job as a nanny?"
"Not as a lawyer, just an assistant. I don’t even have my license yet," Jiang Mo clarified.
Wang Xia chimed in with a brief message, "This is indeed big news. We’ll talk more when you get home."
The next day, after Jiang Mo started her new job, Wang Xia finally asked in detail, "So, is this law firm reliable? Is your boss a man or a woman?"
"It’s a female boss. She seems really nice, and she’s quite well-known too," Jiang Mo said, handing over some information to Wang Xia.
Wang Xia glanced through it and nodded in approval. After a moment of thought, she remarked, "I noticed you’ve been watching those lawyer livestreams lately. I had a feeling you still wanted to pursue this field."
"I just couldn’t let it go, you know? After studying for so long, I wanted to give it another shot," Jiang Mo said with a playful grin. "If I take this assistant job, will you scold me for being ungrateful? I mean, the nanny job pays really well."
"Of course not. You’re still young and capable. This is the time to explore and chase what you really want. Even if you fail, it’s okay," Wang Xia reassured her. "Worst case, your dad and I will support you. We can afford to."
"Mom, you’re the best! You didn’t even ask about my salary. This time, it’s actually better than I expected."
"Our family doesn’t rely on your paycheck. As long as you can cover your own expenses, that’s enough. If you ever fall short, just tell me—I’ll cover the difference," Wang Xia declared with unwavering confidence.
