Following in My Mother’s Footsteps: Working as a Nanny for a Wealthy Family

Chapter 105

Jiang Mo nodded in agreement. "You're right about that. Compared to others, our relationship is indeed better."

Li Wan'er rested her chin on her hand and sighed. "Senior Pei Ting is handsome, capable, and comes from a good family. It’s something to envy but can’t be replicated."

After saying this, she glanced around the venue and spotted a few familiar faces. Tugging at Jiang Mo’s sleeve, she said, "Look, there are several big names up ahead—people who’ve appeared in our textbooks."

Jiang Mo had already noticed. "With so many impressive people here, this conference must be quite high-level."

"After it ends, let’s see if we can take some photos with them," Li Wan'er said, pulling out her phone and snapping pictures of the venue.

Once the conference officially began, the lively chatter in the room quieted down.

On stage, legal experts spoke eloquently, and Jiang Mo and Li Wan'er listened attentively to the insights shared by these seasoned professionals.

The morning session covered three topics, and the proceedings moved along swiftly.

By 11:40, the morning session concluded. Li Wan'er stretched and asked, "Didn’t they say the hotel arranged a buffet for lunch? Where is it?"

Jiang Mo stood up. "Let’s wait a moment. We should ask Senior Pei Ting—I don’t have a meal ticket either."

Just then, Pei Ting, who had been conversing with others nearby, approached them. "The buffet is on the second floor of the hotel. You two can follow me."

With Pei Ting leading the way, they entered the restaurant without trouble. Li Wan'er scanned the room and said, "It’s pretty crowded. You two go get your food first—I’ll grab us a table."

"You should pick your food first," Pei Ting said, pulling out a tray and placing a plate on it before handing it to Jiang Mo.

Jiang Mo took it naturally, following the line and selecting dishes she liked while Pei Ting trailed behind her.

Once they settled at the table with their trays, Jiang Mo asked, "Senior Pei Ting, do you have other plans after the conference ends tonight?"

"What, are you asking me out?" Pei Ting chuckled.

Jiang Mo nodded. "Yeah. I’ve been tagging along to your lectures and meals—it’d be rude not to return the favor."

Pei Ting took a sip of juice. "If only you’d mentioned it earlier. Some senior colleagues and mentors already invited me for dinner tonight."

"Our meal can happen anytime, but you can’t miss an appointment with the big shots," Jiang Mo said. "Seems like a lot of law firms are here for this conference."

"Quite a few. This is a high-profile event co-organized by the association and the government."

As they chatted, Li Wan'er returned with her tray and sat beside Jiang Mo.

"Senior Pei Ting, I’m Li Wan'er, Jiang Mo’s classmate and roommate. I’m also a law major—just tagging along today, thanks to you."

The morning had been too rushed for proper introductions.

Pei Ting had a vague impression of her. "No problem at all."

Casually, he asked, "Are you working in the field or doing something else now?"

Li Wan'er smiled sheepishly. "Our major isn’t the easiest to break into. Thanks to Jiang Mo’s connections, I’m doing something different for now."

"It’s all about securing a job first, then figuring out the career path later," Jiang Mo added for both of them.

Li Wan'er nodded in agreement. "Actually, our current jobs aren’t bad—better than what many others have."

She was quite satisfied with her current salary.

"That’s good to hear," Pei Ting said with a smile. "If you ever want to return to the legal field and need help, feel free to reach out."

Li Wan'er pursed her lips and lowered her head to eat. Asking Senior Pei Ting for help? She didn’t dare presume—those words were probably meant for Jiang Mo.

Jiang Mo, ever straightforward, said, "Sure! If we ever run into legal trouble, we’ll know who to call."

Pei Ting gave a noncommittal response. "You say that now, but when you actually needed help before, you didn’t say a word."

Jiang Mo focused on her food, knowing he was referring to the time she’d faced issues during her internship at Youhe and hadn’t reached out. He’d only found out later and came to ask her about it himself.

Li Wan'er’s eyes darted between the two. There seemed to be something she didn’t know about.

After lunch, many attendees lingered in the restaurant to chat and relax rather than returning to the venue immediately.

It was clear Pei Ting was well-known—he greeted many people, and Jiang Mo and Li Wan'er, following behind him, even exchanged pleasantries with a few prominent figures.

The afternoon session was longer, with more topics covered. Eventually, Pei Ting took the stage as a rising star among young legal professionals.

Jiang Mo snapped a few photos of him on stage. Li Wan'er leaned in and whispered, "Did you notice? Several female lawyers in the front rows couldn’t take their eyes off him."

"I saw. Just goes to show how charming our senior is," Jiang Mo said, deleting a couple of blurry shots.

"Honestly, with his looks and that suit, he could rival any CEO from a romance novel," Li Wan'er mused, squinting. "He doesn’t have a girlfriend, does he?"

Jiang Mo shook her head. "How would I know?"

"I’m just saying—if he’s single, you should seize the opportunity. Upgrade your relationship status."

"You’re single too. Why don’t you go for it?"

"You overestimate me. That’s way out of my league," Li Wan'er said, still staring at the stage. "But you? I think you’ve got a shot."

Jiang Mo laughed. "And you overestimate me. Thanks for the vote of confidence."

After the conference ended, the two bid farewell to Pei Ting and went for a skewer feast.

On their way back, Li Wan'er linked arms with Jiang Mo. "Jiang Mo, are you thinking about returning to our original career path?"
