That afternoon, in the conference room of Shen Media.
Su Qianqian sat across from Brother Wang, the agent assigned to her by the company, listening attentively as he outlined the plans for her next project.
Several thick scripts were spread out on the table.
"Qianqian, these are all the scripts we've received recently. I think the one with the most potential is this one." Brother Wang slid one of them towards Su Qianqian.
"'The Wind of That Summer,' a campus youth drama. The director is a master of this genre, really good at capturing that delicate, awkward feeling of youth. They're very sincere and have already confirmed you for the female lead."
Su Qianqian picked up the script and started flipping through it.
The story was about the innocent, beautiful crushes and growth during high school. There were no melodramatic plot twists, just more details of campus life and the bittersweet, sweet heart-flutters between boys and girls.
The character was a girl with good grades, a bit stubborn yet simple in nature—very refreshing.
She was very interested.
"I've read it; the script is excellent," Brother Wang continued.
"However, the director and the production side have an unwritten rule for this kind of pure romance campus drama. It heavily relies on the chemistry between the leads and the actors' public personas."
"So they hope that the lead actors, during filming and the promotional period after the show airs, preferably don't have any public relationships. Ideally, they should even be single."
"If news of a relationship leaks, it could be a huge blow to the drama. The audience would find it hard to immerse themselves."
As he spoke, Brother Wang glanced carefully at Su Qianqian.
As one of the company's top agents, he naturally knew a thing or two about what was going on between Su Qianqian and Gu Chengyu. He had seen with his own eyes how special the young master was towards Su Qianqian.
Brother Wang chose his words carefully: "Qianqian, what's your current relationship status? If you take this role, you might need to be a bit careful in that regard."
Su Qianqian flipped through the script, her thoughts drifting.
What were she and Gu Chengyu now? If you called it a breakup, he absolutely refused to acknowledge it.
If you called it reconciled, that thorn in her heart hadn't been completely pulled out yet.
She looked down at the lines in the script describing heart-fluttering moments, feeling hesitant.
This drama was really good.
And she had checked; the most intimate scenes were just holding hands and hugs. There wasn't even a fake kiss scene. It was as pure and innocent as it could get.
For her, there was almost no psychological burden.
Since they were in a sort of half-breakup state anyway, why not be more decisive?
She looked up and gave Brother Wang a smile. "Brother Wang, I understand."
"I'll take this role. During filming and promotion, I'll be careful. There won't be any romantic scandals."
She said it with certainty, as if convincing Brother Wang, and also convincing herself.
Brother Wang visibly relaxed, his smile becoming much more genuine. "Great! That's great! I'll go finalize the contract details with them right away! Qianqian, I believe this drama will definitely help you reach the next level!"
After seeing Brother Wang off, Su Qianqian was alone in the conference room.
She leaned back in her chair, looking out the window at the bustling cityscape. The ripples in her heart caused by Gu Chengyu were slowly being suppressed by her anticipation for her career.
Yeah, that's it.
Focus on filming well for now.
As for Gu Chengyu, she'd find a chance to make things clear with him later.
During this period, she absolutely couldn't let him pester her anymore.
She thought this to herself, but her gaze fell on her phone screen. It was a message from Gu Chengyu asking what she wanted to eat for dinner.
A wave of reluctance and soft-heartedness passed through her, but she quickly forced it down.
No, Su Qianqian, it would be too stupid to give up an opportunity for a man!
That guy... he needs more testing.
