"Is that so?" Big Head Brother frowned, looking at Huang Feihu.
Huang Feihu said angrily, "Big Head Brother, they're full of crap! They were the ones who provoked me first and even mocked me."
Fang Haoran retorted, "When did we mock you? Stop making things up!"
Huang Feihu snapped, "Still pretending? I asked where you got those free crabs, and what did you say? ‘From a kind person.’"
"Am I a kind person? Who the hell do you think you’re looking down on?!"
Fang Haoran and the others were stunned by his words.
Was this really the reason he started a fight with them?
Leaving aside whether "kind person" was even an insult, they had never said "you’re a kind person" to him in the first place.
The "kind person" they were talking about referred to an incident at a restaurant.
Earlier, Fang Haoran and his group of ten had been dining at Yuyuefang. Since business was booming that night, they had to wait a while for their food, and a few of them grumbled quietly.
Apparently, a waitress around their age overheard and brought them a complimentary plate of crabs—ten in total, one for each of them.
Later, they found out the waitress was also a student at their university, Caida, from the northern campus, working part-time at the restaurant.
Naturally, being fellow alumni, they ended up chatting a bit more.
Out of concern, Fang Haoran asked, "Won’t your boss scold you for giving us these crabs? They aren’t cheap, right?"
The girl, Yu Xin, joked, "Don’t worry, these crabs were a gift from a very generous person when our restaurant opened—no cost involved."
Fang Haoran and the others knew she was joking, but the gesture left them with a better impression of both her and the restaurant.
Not only was the food delicious, but they were also generous enough to give away a plate of crabs.
On their way back, they naturally started talking about Yu Xin, the part-time student, and how impressed they were.
"Starting a part-time job as a freshman—that’s really hardworking."
Just as they were discussing this, they reached Xuehai Street.
At that moment, Huang Feihu was standing outside his shop, torn between two choices. Part of him wanted to tear off the closure notice, as shutting down for even a short while would mean heavy losses. But he was also afraid of getting caught and fined if he did.
And that’s when Fang Haoran, Ling Yan, and the others passed by, laughing and chatting loudly, as groups of young men and women often do.
Their conversation happened to reach Huang Feihu’s ears.
"That restaurant’s mini fish pancakes are amazing! And the crabs—so much roe this season. I could eat them all day."
"If you want more, we can just go back."
"I’d love to, but who knows if they’ll still have those ‘generous person’ crabs next time? It’d be great if they always gave them out."
"Dream on! Yu Xin was obviously joking. They can’t just give away free crabs every day—they’re running a business, not a charity."
"Hey, you never know. Maybe some fool really did donate hundreds of pounds of crabs to them. Then we’d get lucky too."
"Hahaha, who in the world would be that stupid?"
"..."
Fang Haoran and the others were just bantering like any group of friends would. Who could’ve guessed Huang Feihu would overhear?
But to him, every word felt like a slap in the face.
"Generous person," "fool," "stupid"—each term stung.
Furious and humiliated, he stormed over, blocking their path, and snarled, "Who the hell are you calling a ‘generous person’?!"
The sudden appearance of the blond-haired man startled them, leaving them confused.
Ling Yan instinctively muttered, "What a psycho!"
That single remark was the spark that lit the fuse.
Huang Feihu had already had a terrible day, and now his pent-up rage exploded. Without hesitation, he slapped Ling Yan hard across the face.
A sharp crack echoed, and five red marks instantly bloomed on her fair cheek.
The air froze for a second.
Then Fang Haoran and the other boys snapped into action, pouncing on Huang Feihu, pinning him to the ground, and beating him mercilessly.
Later, Ling Yan, her face burning, grabbed a brick and—while Huang Feihu was still pinned—smashed it down on his head.
The sight horrified Fang Haoran, the other guys, and even the girls like Lin Lele.
They had only meant to teach him a lesson, but now, with a brick involved, things had escalated. If this got out, they could all end up in jail.
Fang Haoran, who already had feelings for Ling Yan, didn’t hesitate. "If the police come, say I was the one who hit him."
Luckily, Huang Feihu didn’t call the cops. People in his line of work rarely did. Getting knocked out by a woman was embarrassing enough—if word got out, he’d never live it down.
But not calling the police didn’t mean he’d let them off the hook.
He immediately called for backup.
Big Head Brother and his crew happened to be nearby. Hearing that it was just five college boys, they hopped on their bikes and rushed over.
This whole mess was just a bizarre coincidence. Even Yu Xin would never have imagined that her simple act of kindness—giving away a plate of crabs—would spiral into something so ugly.
As the top enforcer on Xuehai Street, Big Head Brother had to stand by his man. Huang Feihu had treated him to plenty of foot massages, after all.
Now that his buddy had gotten his head busted open, it didn’t matter who started it—Big Head Brother was backing Huang Feihu all the way.
And after hearing Huang Feihu’s side, he agreed it was downright insulting.
First, the shop gets shut down, then he gets called a "generous person"? That’s basically calling him weak. Since when do "generous people" survive in their world?
"Listen up, kids. I don’t care who started it or who threw the first punch. Touch my brother, and you’re touching me. Here’s the deal: three conditions. Miss one, and none of you are walking out of this street tonight!"
Huang Feihu shoved forward, glaring at Ling Yan, who was hiding behind the others. "And that bitch! No woman’s ever cracked my skull before. If she doesn’t make it up to me tonight, I’ll end her!"
One of the girls, trembling with fear, stammered, "I-I warn you, we’re Caida students! If you don’t let us go, we’ll… we’ll report you to the school!"
The moment she said it, Big Head Brother and his gang burst into laughter.
"Oh, wow! Report us? You think your teachers can do anything to us?"
"Sweetheart, you’re adorable. Naive, but adorable."
"Besides, you’re the ones who bashed my buddy’s head in. Even if you call the cops, who do you think they’ll arrest?"
As soon as these words were spoken, Lin Lele and the others, who had initially planned to call the police, quickly put their phones away in fear.
They were all well-behaved students who naturally feared being taken away by the police. What if they ended up getting arrested for reporting the incident, or worse—receiving a disciplinary record or even expulsion from school? Their lives would be ruined.
With calling the police no longer an option, they could only rely on the few boys around them.
"Fang Haoran, what should we do?"
"I want to go back to school. I never should’ve come out to eat in the first place."
"..."
Some of the girls grew increasingly frightened, and a few even burst into tears.
Now they were completely trapped in a dilemma—the other side had clearly decided to take advantage of them.
Although Huang Feihu had been the one to pick the fight, the outcome was now heavily stacked against them.
Fang Haoran, as the leader of the gathering, forced himself to stay calm and tried to reassure everyone: "Don’t be afraid. They’re betting we won’t call the police, but they won’t either. People like them care too much about their pride. Besides, I’ve already messaged the other guys from our class—they’re on their way with backup."
